I have been reading the reviews, particularly from guitar players. So this is my take on this pedal, which I own. This pedal is not meant to replace a real wah, and it is not marketed as such. It is not aimed at rock players (by reading the reviews you can tell they dont know how to use it). It is meant for funk players. A large number of professional funk guitarists have one of these in their rig. The auto-wah, or dynamic-wah sound is a staple of funk music. Some funk players dont use it, but many do. It has its place. But as I said earlier, it is not meant to do the same thing as a regular wah. It gives you different sounds based on sweeping frequencies. If you are lazy, and want the pedal to do the job for you, then you will be disappointed to know that this pedal wont do that. If you are into Funk, do yourself a favor and buy this pedal. It is a lot of fun, and funk rhythms take a new character when you use this pedal properly. Granted, some functions youll probably never use. But once again, if you are a funk player, youll love this pedal. Players who only play rock will never understand the true value of this gem of a pedal. My two cents.

I just played this pedal at a local guitar shop and I was extremely dissappointed. I used it on a 6 string bass because thats whats I usually play and no features sounded good. There was a decent autowah sound when you messed with the decay to a very very exact setting and even that sound got old fast. I have the aw-2 and that pedal is much better then it and im not even too happy with that pedal because it lacks alot of the low end I demand out of my sound. This pedal had a better range as far as the low end went but it still was just lacking in sound quality. I played it out of an ampeg svt head on an ampeg 6x10. The sound was just lacking. There were more options then the standard pedal but the options weren't that useful. I use a bootie-collins snaring dog wah as well and that wah with the autowah achieves more sounds then this sounds. The overdrive/distortion settles were decent as well but the range was very very lacking in all the differant ways you can mess with that setting. and with the boosy collins wah it has a fuzz on it and its adjustable as well. **I used the expression pedal with this pedal for most of the time I was playing with it and it improved the every option on the pedal and it was still lacking. I mean maybe I'm being to critical but I have alot of pedal and I really look for as many diverse sounds as possible and this pedal would never earn a spot on my pedal boards....

Comments about AW-3 Dynamic Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

Just getting into using pedals with my bass. Wrote this funk song and i could hear it wanted wah. Saw youtube video of this pedal in action, bought it and am really happy. I may not use it for many tunes but it does wonders. The dynamic aspect is great being able to dial in the parameters of the wah effect. It's a keeper.

Comments about Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

I purchased this at a great price. After working with it for a few hours I was able to find the right combination. Like most pedals the guitar and amp play a large factor in the sound. This pedal is very usable for single coil or coil tap configurations. The double humbucker just did not work until I turn it down a slight bit and played around with the tone knob. This pedal awesome once you work with it and tweak it to your preferences.

Many Features - None of them Good

Comments about Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

Overall I thought this would be an Crybaby like wah and a cool auto-wah/envelope filter in one amazing versatile and great-sounding unit. While it has many features, it's spread too thin. It's sort of like a cheap buffet, has lots of variety, but none of the food is anything you'd write home about.

It sounds cheesy, it doesn't go to an extremes, it plays it safe.
Yes this thing has many different modes and many features, but to me it's sort of like putting a bunch of toppings on a dried shriveled-up convinience store hot dog; no matter what you do to it, the meat of it just isn't all that good. The decay knob seems to do very little, and while there are many different modes, none of them seem to have much of a range of tonal flexibility and sounds cheesy.
Built like any other Boss pedal, like a tank, and it even has an input for an expression pedal, but sound quality sucks, with the expression pedal this thing is nowhere near as good as even a standard Crybaby.
I bought this fairly cheap and it feels exactly that, a cheap pedal more for laughs and amusement. I can't imagine a professional or serious musician using this for gigs.

      Funky bass wah

Comments about Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

      .
At first, I really thought I had made a mistake with purchasing this pedal for bass. I had to tweak with the modes and settings for about an hour before I found the sound I wanted. The Manual control sets the frequency you want to wah. On some of the modes, if you turn the Manual knob too low, itll puts a real low, annoying sound as if you turned the mid range up all the way on your amp. The Sharp Mode is probably the quietest. Some of the modes are very noisy. The Tap Tempo effect is ideal for rock music in that it makes it sound like youre moving a wah pedal up and down. The Humanizer effect doesnt really do anything, not on bass, anyways. If you set it up the vowel controls a certain way, it sounds like straight Boss distortion. If you set up the Humanizer another way, it sounds like a synth. I was able to get an eye sound but thats about it.

      Not good for guitar...

      By fenderguy123

      from Ellicott City MD

Comments about Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

So I bought this wah pedal several years ago, thinking this was the best thing ever. Now I've come to realize that it is not a good wah pedal for guitar. Although there are many features on it, most of them don't sound all to great and you don't really get that "real wah" tone. There was one tone on there that I liked, but that got old after about a week or so. Maybe this pedal would be better for basses, but I know for guitar it's not. If you want my advice, definitely step up to a Crybaby Wah

      Expensive toy.......

      By Herman-TSTYv

Comments about Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've bought a used one. I must say that this is a fun toy to play especially with bass guitar. However, even if you plug an expression pedal into the pedal in order to achieve the real wah tone, you won't satisfy or even find it very annoying. So if you really want to get the real wah tone, I recommand the crybaby series........For bassist, if you want to have some envelope added to your tone, try out the Boss Bass Synthesizer.

good for bass, go with real pedal for guitar

Comments about Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

I play guitar and bass. Its fun to jam with and play around with the different sounds for the first few days but I'm going back for a cry baby. Also, this pedal is very well built but overpriced.
