this makes a Tube Screamer sound like a Behringer stomp box
Even though this is a distortion/overdrive pedal..it really kind of isn't. It's not for hair metal, etc...it's for very subtle overdrive..which is how it should be used. With the gain turned way, way down. It seems like any review I've read about this pedal complains about the distortion, or lack thereof. You're missing the whole point. There are hundreds of distortion pedals out there..that's not what this is all about. But if you need to be told that, then I'm wasting my breath. This pedal is also better than the T/S (which sounds like it's being played through a 6" speaker cab...waaaaay too boxey sounding and raspy. Use the Blues Driver with a Telecaster on the neck pup, or a Les Paul with both pups on, and you'll understand the point I'm trying to make.

It's a good pedal - some will find it "great." But I think you can do better for less.
Pretty standard. Lack of tonal options limits this one quite a bit for me. Like most pedals with just a "tone" knob, it will sound good with certain amps/guitars, and not so good with others.
I'm not exactly with the consensus on this one. I figure there must be others like me out there, so I'll pass along my experience... The BD-2 does not sound "smooth" to my ears at all, though it's often described as such. I find it blistering, actually. Pretty brittle. Harsh, ice-picky, fizzy (pick your adjective)... I can't seem to get the tone back far enough to lessen that quality until it's back so far that the whole sound turns to mush (if that makes any sense?). Add to that some major compression - which prevents string separation and limits the pedal to being more useful for leads and chunky riffs - which is fine if that's what you need... but if you play rhythm and need chord clarity, you may want to check out the BOSS OD-3 instead. Great at low gain and much more rhythm-favoring compression and tone. So many people never give that circuit a shot.
It's popular now, pretty much an industry standard. The price has been raised and, in my opinion, it's no longer such a great value. Especially with how limited the eq options are.

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

I gotta be honest here...soon as I got it, I re-labeled it and sent it to Keeley for the "Phat Mod". It is now the first pedal to get turned on and is the one OD pedal that is always on. I lean toward single coils and this pedal can now dial up the exact tone I've been wanting. Great warm transparent sound with a touch of fuzz and a new low end on my strat that I can't get enough of I love it! I also enjoy my OCD and OKKO Gain+, but this BD-2 with mods is the sound I've been chasing.

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

This has been my favorite distortion pedal for a few years. its able to get a perfect blues sound and can also get slight uncompressed and heavier sounding. I use to be in a cover band and this would be the only distortion I'd use and it could do pretty much anything. I'd normally set the distortion around 3 o'clock and tone around 2 and let the knobs on my guitar do the rest. it works VERY good with tones and volume controls from you guitar and is very responsive.

Let me start by saying that I have played a handful of other pedals always looking for what was right in front of me. This pedal is amazing. The sounds I get through this thing are unparalleled to anything else I've tried. The spectrum of sounds is always within pleasing sounds, no scratching, screeching or unnecessary noise. It is just a rock solid pedal that will always have a place on my board.

Comments about Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal:

The Blues Driver is a fantastic pedal. It offers a pretty wide range of options from three little knobs.

At the left of 12:00 on the gain knob, it adds a little hair to your signal while still keeping your guitar's tone in tact. That plus the level knob at a higher setting provides a great clean-ish boost. After 12:00 on the gain, it starts getting nice and dirty but even maxed out, it never gets sloppy. This is one of the only pedals I've owned that is useable across the whole gain spectrum.

I also have an OD-3 which is a fantastic overdrive and these two stack very well (OD3--->BD2). Definitely two different tones, both fantastic.

For blues, classic rock and some McCready-type tones, the BD-2 delivers.

My Pedal board is set up for anything I want or need to Play. I got from a B M to this beautiful little Blue Box. With My Strat to My Les Paul through a 65' reissue Tube Twin Reverb Amp and a 4 X 12 Cabinet, I like using This BD-2 with some Delay and people just melt from the tones and notes that come out of My Fender Amp. I figure this, if'n it's good enough for David Gilmour, it's good enough for Me and YES it's good enough for Me........

I use this pedal with a Fender tweed blues deluxe. I run my Strat, Tele, and a couple of LP copies through that setup and it's easy to dial up a nice vintage blues, or classic rock tone.
I set my amp clean and dirty channels the way I want them and kick on the BD2 for solos. I was able to dial in the exact tone from the pedal that my amp already has. The pedal simply livens it up and boosts the signal a bit for solos. It's got a nice transparentness to it that I really like. You can dial up some nice gain as well, but it's by no means a metal pedal.
I run mine with the tone set at about 10 o'clock and the gain at about 11 o'clock
