This is a nice eq for the money.
It's not a boutique high-end hand built eq, but if you just need to cut some frequencies in your guitar spectrum, it will work for that purpose.
It is voiced specifically for the guitar range.
A lot of reviewers remarked about the noise level that this eq can add to their signal path. If you talk to any professional sound guy you will find out that eq's are best used for cutting frequencies, not adding them to your signal path.
If you keep the level control at the unity (mid) level and only cut unwanted frequencies, the noise shouldn't be a problem. Keep in mind that cutting those frequencies on an eq this small will lower your signal level a bit overall, so you may need to boost it up somewhere up the path. If you boost it from this eq, it will add noise. I use this pedal to cut 200Hz from my signal path because my Marshall just kills me with 200Hz frequencies.

I love the range of this EQ. Having control over the 6.4k+ region adds a lot of clarity to the sound. It's not as wide of a freq range as the MXR's 10-band M-108, and wider than the M-109. It has everything an EQ should, plus a gain control (which I don't really use; never been too impressed with EQ pedals as gain boosters). The only problem is when the unit is bypassed: it eats away at the tone. Specifically, I noticed a thinner sound in the low-midrange area, and an overall decrease in dynamics. The resulting sound didn't eaven measure up to the tone without the unit in the loop, even after tweaking the settings to where I wanted.

That said, it is built like a tank, just like all other Boss products. Boss pedals have never failed me, and I'm pretty rough on them. I've never had this problem with any of my other Boss pedals (RV-3, RV-5, TU-3 and DD-6), so I'm thinking it may have just been a dud. Nonetheless, I will be picking up an MXR 108 soon.

Perhaps the most useful pedal I own

        By Mr. E.

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

To be honest, the sound bytes do not give this thing any justice. This is perhaps the most useful pedal I own. People spend so much time in vain buying different distortion pedals and amps, hoping to capture the sounds of their favorite bands. But they somehow overlook these beautiful underdogs of the guitar world, graphic EQ pedals. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you have to spend money on expensive amps and pedals. Just try one of these out on your guitar rig and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

I noticed that there were a lot of complaints about the hiss that this pedal gives, so i was scepticle when buying it. i found it used at a local shop for only $49 though, and i needed something to replace the broken equalizer in my acoustic, so i decided to give it a shot. i LOVE it. i DIDN'T hear any HISS. maybe it's just mine, but i had no noticible noise come from mine at all. --if the hiss really bothers you, jhs pedals has a mod to fix that and widen the range of the eq.--

Also, it shapes the tone amazingly on my acoustic and electric. i was able to tweek the sound just to what i wanted it to be, and it's a lot better then what my original eq could have done.

i am, hands down, completely satisfied with my purchase.

Using this as a boost pedal, works well and cuts through the band to bring solos to the front pretty well. Nice volume boost, easy to manipulate sliders, easy to hit the foot switch on the fly while playing.

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

This is an EQ and boost rolled into one. Great for boosting and decreasing unpleasant frequencies. It can also make your acoustic guitar sound like a more expensive guitar. Use this before or after your Overdrive pedal for more of everything. Makes your Modulations much better. There is no downfall from having one or two of the GE-7 EQ pedals on your pedalboard.

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

I initially looked at two of the most popular equalizers, the BOSS and the MXR, and chose the MXR. I quickly found that it was not easy to use. The sliders were tiny and were not easy to move, and the LED's were not that useful; even with the lights the sliders tended to blend in with the face of the pedal. I returned the MXR and got the BOSS and I have been much happier since. It is much more legible and user-friendly. I am not obsessed with sound quality, so it may differ minutely from the MXR but it doesn't seem to adversely affect the tone of the signal. Unless you're really picky about your equalizer, this one is likely to do, especially in a live situation. I find it useful mainly as a boost, but I love having the flexibility to sculpt my sound so easily! A really useful pedal!

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

The pedal is built sturdy and strong like all boss pedals but the problem is its noisy! As soon as you move the sliders out of a neutral position you can hear some amp hiss. I then tried the MXR M108 and found it to be much more quiet.

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

With levels completely flat, this pedal is OK. The minute you push one control in either direction, you get an unacceptable hiss. If you don't believe me, Google this problem. There are bunches of people selling fixes for the GE-7, to repair exactly this problem. You have to replace chips and solder capacitors.

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

In my case I found it really stripped my tone when bypassed. On I can get some good sounds out of it but scratching my head why its sucking the dry signal dry.
Wow, a quick look around at the reviews and I feel I am one of the few that had issues with the EQ. I bought it to run with my MXR 10 band to have another quickly selectable tone at the ready. I immediately noticed a tone difference even when clicked off. Moved it around the chain but on my setup it really did take out alot of the depth of the tone. With distortion,od and other effects on I could not notice it but dry it really sucked the tone out so I know its effecting the overall sound. I took it out for now but at only 100 bucks its worth a try. What attracted me was the small footprint on a already crowded board.
Dunno but if its like the other Bosses it a brick.
100 bucks for a small tough eq.

A little bit of advise, if you buy this to use with good equipment ie. Marshall tube amp, Gibson Les Paul... Don't!! This thing is noisy as hell!! I just bought this pedal and I am totally disappointed. I have tried everything to thwart the noise! I intend to return it ASAP!

              Boss GE-7

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

Overall just too much hiss for the price. Might work for you if you're playing live and it gets covered up, but if you're into quality sweet tone with no signal degridation it's not for you. Overall for therice you shouldn't have to put up with the hiss, it should be pure sweet tone.
I give this product a 3 because for the price, you should not have to put up with the hiss. However the tone it produces is very nice, and when playing live you'd never really notice it. Now if you are using a quality guitar and a quality amp and you want to use this to shape your tone for recordings it's terrible, unless you use a noise gate but who want's to shell out the extra cash just so it doesn't hiss, spend a few $ more and get the MXR no hiss. 7 band EQ is nice and volume control is nice.
Too much hiss, but tones are nice if you can stand the noise. I could not.
I'd have to say not much of a value since it's competitors aren't much more and some are less.

I am very disappointed in the unit. Positives: great overall construction, really sturdy and well made. Negatives: THIS UNIT IS REALLY NOISY!!! I have placed the unit everywhere in my pedal order to see if that would make a difference and it didn't - is just way too noisy for my liking. So now it sits in my closet. Think about trying it before you buy it. Don't make the same mistake I did. :(

Spent a little time dialing it in....put down a chord progression on my loops staion then sat down in fron of the amp and dialed it in...awsome! Best money i ever spent on effects pedals.i'll never sell this thing....I run through a valveking 212 and thought it had a good sound before this but now i absolutely love it. I never turn it off except to show people how good it makes the amp sound. Its compact and tuff as nails as are all Boss pedals. If U r saving up for that stupid distortion pedal and your amp already has distortion.....buy this and u will be happy u did, i promise. It will make your amp sound like nothing u ever thought it would be.

hands down, the most useful pedal i've owned. the only problem is that using it to boost causes noise, but for that i have the second most useful pedal i've ever owned: the boss NS-2 noise suppressor. with these two pedals, you can achieve great tones. also, the GE-7 is one of the few pedals that will still give you dramatic difference in your sound even at the "bedroom level" ..just be sure to get an NS-2 to quiet the noise.

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

The jsx mini colossal is an excellent amp, but it does lack in the eq'ing department (it only has a tone knob). This pedal solved that issue for me. Take away some of the low end and boost the mids a little...makes a world of a difference. Sounds very close to the vox satchurator now, and the sound is much more tight. Make sure you run this guy into the effects loop since running it in the front input makes it quite noisy. It works terrific as a solo booster too.

Comments about Boss GE-7 Equalizer Pedal:

this works great. sliders do NOT feel cheap at all, neither does any part of this pedal. don't use it to improve the tone of a mediocre amp. EQ pedals just aren't meant for that. I play an Orange Rocker 30, which sounds great on its own. I use this to boost highs and mids for solos, and it does it well. cuts through a 4-piece band easily. granted, there is a deal of hiss introduced into the signal, but that's to be expected of any pedal where the highs and mids are on 10. i think i'm going to send it in to JHS to get modded to fix this, anyways. docked a point on the value because $100 is a lot to pay for something so simple. i got mine used at the local music store for $50, makes it way more worthwhile.

I wanted a way to get volume controls for my Martin D-40 which has a passive Fishman pickup at the endpin only. This is so as not to cut a future vintage Martin treasure, as this pedal so perfectly allows. The equalization is just awesome as I can shift on the fly on the bass and mids to get more power or more crispness from the highs with a flick of the finger. The on/off pedal feature gives me a boost in the on position. If you have an expensive acoustic and wonder how to make it perform with amplification, this pedal is the perfect solution. Awesome!
