OVERVIEW

Experience this high-powered, all-in-one rig and be blown away.

Katana—the traditional sword carried by the historic samurai of Japan—is a symbol of honor, precision, and artistry in Japanese culture. Adopting the majestic sword’s name with pride, the Katana series presents guitar amplifiers with smooth, cutting tones honed by generations of dedication and expertise. Born of the development process behind the acclaimed Waza amplifier, these innovative amps embody BOSS’s determined pursuit of the ultimate rock sound. Featuring proprietary circuit designs and meticulous tuning, the Katana Series combines traditional craftsmanship and breakthrough functions to produce true next-generation rock amplifiers.

With 100 watts of power and a custom 12 in. speaker, the Katana KTN-100 delivers a commanding range of gig-worthy tones that gracefully slice through any band scenario. The amp also excels for home playing, with a uniquely efficient design and innovative Power Control that provides inspiring sound and response at low volumes. In addition, the Katana KTN-100 includes integrated access to 55 BOSS effects, which are customizable using the free BOSS Tone Studio editor software. Up to 15 different effects can be configured in the amp at one time, enabling you to bring fully prepared tones to the stage in one amp.

A Refined Amp with Inspiring Tone
Designed for guitarists who are serious about their sound, the Katana KTN-100 offers exceptional tone and touch response for stage playing, recording, and simply practicing at home. The custom 12-in. speaker is driven by a special method developed for the flagship Waza amp that optimizes the speaker and cabinet character. This gives you authoritative punch and cutting presence previously attainable only with high-end amp designs. In combination with the five selectable amp characters, the Katana KTN-100 produces class-defying power and expressiveness to meet any playing situation.

Five Original Amp Characters, Honed for Rock Playing
Sharpened to perfection by the BOSS engineering team, the Katana KTN-100’s five amp characters offer everything from organic vintage tones to modern high-gain sounds. Clean is natural and transparent, while Crunch offers satisfying grit and response. Lead has a wide gain range to suit many styles, from fat, stinging blues solos to fluid legato shredding. With DNA inherited from the Waza amp, Brown delivers refined high-gain tone sought after by the world’s greatest rock players. The Acoustic character further enhances the Katana’s versatility, providing optimized tone that makes acoustic-electric guitars sound stunningly natural.

Leave Your Pedal Board at Home
With its built-in BOSS effects and recallable Tone Settings, the Katana KTN-100 lets you perform anywhere with just a guitar and amp. Connecting to BOSS Tone Studio via USB provides access to 55 effects that are fully customizable for your needs. Going beyond standard distortion, delay, and reverb, the selection also includes powerful tone-shapers like pitch shifting, ring mod, slicer, and more. You can load 15 different effects in the amp at one time and use up to three simultaneously. Four Tone Settings let you store custom amp and effects setups for instant recall, and you can always jump to the current panel settings at the touch of a button. It's also possible to connect optional footswitches and expression pedals for hands-free control on the gig.

Grab-and-Go Operation
While the Katana KTN-100 includes many advanced features, it’s amazingly simple to operate. Dedicated knobs for multiple gain stages, three-band EQ, and presence allow you to quickly dial in your tone by ear, just as you would with a standard tube amp. Essential effects parameters are adjusted with a simple knob twist, and memories can be stored with a brief button hold. The Power Control is great for throttling back the volume for small stages and home playing, and also includes a Standby setting that mutes the sound for switching guitars or taking breaks. And by flipping out the integrated tilt stand, you can easily angle the amp back for better sound projection.

BOSS Tone Central
At the BOSS Tone Central website, you’ll find numerous free amp and effects setups for the Katana Series. Created by pro guitarists, these setups provide ready-to-play sounds for various music styles, and also make great starting points for building your own sounds. They load into the memories in a Katana amp via the BOSS Tone Studio editor software, which is also available at the site. In addition to Katana effects selection and customization, BOSS Tone Studio gives you a convenient way to organize all your Katana setups for different gigs, recordings, and practice sessions.

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I use this amp primarly for home practice and jamming with friends. I will see use for recording and for open mic nights and small gigs as well. I have found it good enough to replace a Marshall DSL40c. I bought another for my son who replaced a Vox Nightrain 15. It has really nice tone that encompasses everything from clean to crunch, lead and metal. The amp cleans up just like a tube amp and the speaker load feedbacks into the power amp stage just like a tube amp for really great dynamics. This amp once and for all puts the myth that tube amps are always superior to solid state amps to rest. This amp is every bit as good as a really good tube amp. I certainly put my money where my mouth is.

    Really GOOD Amp

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

This amp sounds exceptional in each of its four voicings. Sorry I have not used the acoustic amplifier. A lot of tones can be dialed in, good tones similarly voiced like what you might dial in on JTM45 or modded Plexi. The effects are good, this is expected from Roland/Boss. I bought this to use as a practice / backup amp. It doesnt have any sounds it lacks in. For example, maybe some of these types of amps do clean or light gain better maybe some of them do high gain better, this one is good all the way around. Ive never had a digital amp like this sound better as you turn up, usually thats the turning point of where they start to go bad. This is the best on the market in its class.

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I've owned all different types of amps... solid state to tube to modelling from companies that range from fender custom shop to Bogner to Soldano to Line 6. I've also been playing for around 30 years. Never have I never come across an amp this versatile that sounds so good on each setting. The clean to mean, this amp sounds fantastic.

Also, the ability to tweak your tones with Boss's Tone Studio is a huge plus.

Bottom line: In 30 years, an amp has never had me this excited to play my guitars. I find myself running to my music room and playing so much longer than I ever have.

Are there boutique amps out there that sound better? I'm sure... but at this price point with the efx, tweak-ability and cost, it's not even a contest.

In 40 Years of Playing the Best Amp I Have Ever Owned

    By RickHolly

    from New Jersey

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I have now been playing gigs for more than 40 years and am still at it almost weekly. I have owned the Katana 100 for almost four months now and have gigged with it on eight occasions. This amp is probably the best all round amp I have ever owned. It does it all and sounds amazing. Don't mistake this for just another modeling amp because it's not a modeling amp. It's a Katana and has it's own sound and does not emulate other amps. The effects that are available via the online Boss Tone Central are excellent and absolutely free. You can choose from any of the 55 effects pedals on the site and download them into your Katana in about 2 seconds (really, 2 seconds). The way the effects are set up in the amps signal path is just like you are plugging in a series of stomp boxes on the floor so they react like a pedal being added to your amps input. I suggest you also buy the GA-FC foot pedal if you plan to use this amp to do live gigs. The foot pedal allows access to your 4 preset patches that can each contain any three of the 55 effects pedals on the Boss Tone Central site. The pedal has a switch marked "Effects" that puts the foot-switch into pedal mode so you can turn each effect on and off like pedal board. It also has a "Tap" tempo button for the echo/digital delay.
The amp itself it the easiest amp to set up. Just dial in a sound and effects you want, press and hold one of the four channel buttons till it blinks and your setting is saved. The 12 inch speaker has excellent low end with nice clarity and no muddy or flabby sound. The EQ knobs are very responsive and let you dial in just the right tone setting. The amp has an effects loop on the rear panel, a USB connection for recording direct to your computer and hooking up on line to the Boss Tone Central. There are speaker outs for plugging into another cabinet as well as headphone and separate line out for going to a mixer or DI box. Oh by the way this things can get loud!! Get one.

    This amplifier is excellent

Comments about Boss Katana KTN-100 100W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amplifier:

I use 100% tube amps for gigs, smaller solid state amps for practice. This amp does it all. I am frankly amazed at the sound of this amp when used live. I run the master volume at 10 and use the 100 watt setting for live environment. I will not replace my tube amps with this one, but smaller venues and quick setup gigs this amp will grab and go and I have 100% confidence. I am using it with my effects floorboard which includes a Carl Martin Plexi Tone 3 channel pedal as I am a classic rock player.

When I first plugged in with my Gibson I thought I'm not so sure. Then downloaded Boss Tome Central and then the amp came alive. Really glad I got this amp and am going to enjoy it's flexibility for years to come. MF as always was great to deal with.
