OVERVIEW

Compact pedal that offers you plenty of tone all in one knob-based interface.

Packed with tons of awesome BOSS effects and ready to hit the stage, the ME-80 is the perfect compact tone processor for gigging guitarists. A user-friendly, knob-based interface makes it quick and easy to dial in great sounds, with the flexibility of individual stompbox-style on/off or instant recall of complex multi-effects setups. Unique footswitches deliver even more control than previous designs for efficient and intuitive effects switching, patch selection, and realtime sound shaping while playing. It also includes free BOSS TONE STUDIO software to help you unlock even more tonal possibilities, plus a web connection to BOSS TONE CENTRAL for direct access to free patches created by pro guitarists and much more.

Find your own personal sound with the ME-80s extensive range of built-in effects. A complete history of gig-ready BOSS tone processing is at your command, from multiple overdrives and distortions to wahs, mod effects, pitch shifters, delays, and beyond. BOSS groundbreaking Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) technology is represented with the unique, spacious ambience of Tera Echo and the distinctive tone-shaping possibilities of Overtone. Updated COSM preamps include new additions such as Crunch and Metal, plus an AC preamp designed for acoustic/electric guitar.

Unlike typical menu-driven multi-effects processors that are complicated and unintuitive, using the ME-80 is as easy as using a stompbox. Effects are organized into eight logical categories that can all be active at the same time. Seven categories contain multiple effects types to choose from, plus dedicated knobs for selecting a type and adjusting it with a set of parameters youd find in the pedal version of the effect. The Pedal FX category has its own knob for quickly assigning a particular effects type or function to be controlled by foot with the expression pedal. You can even save all the current knob settings to one of the ME-80s 36 user patch locations.
The hands-on experience that stomp box control provides is perfect for tweaking tones as you go. In Manual mode, the categories function like individual stomp effects, with instant adjustment via the panel knobs and on/off control with dedicated footswitches. By entering Memory mode, seven footswitches are automatically reconfigured to select user or preset patches and patch banks, letting you recall complete multi-effects setups directly. One footswitch on the ME-80 is dedicated just for mode switching, so you can toggle between Manual and Memory modes any time you want.

Welp. I looked at my massive effect box and thought, "If only they made a reliable multi effect pedal that didn't sound cheesy." It was like I found a 4x12 Marshall stack that sounded as good as a practice amp! Holy Grail! Infact, sounds better than my amp's distortion channel which was the envy of many guitar player/fans of the band over the years. I put the amp on clean, and let the ME-80 do its work. BUT FIRST, if you buy this unit used, reset to factory default. (hold down this and push that kinda thing. Gotta love the Internet).

Speaking of Internet, Boss has a website where you can get all kinds of preset tones. You like Hendrix? They got Jimi. You like Eddie? Vai? Covered. Oh yur a country guy? Boom! Every conceivable music type is covered. I simply set my amp clean and let the ME-80 do the rest. The software is free BUT the POWER SUPPLY IS NOT INCLUDED. Make sure you buy the offical Boss power supply. Im told other brands might take it's toll on your beloved unit and create some humming noise. Which, incidentally, this unit is as quiet as your clean channel. They even have a setting where you can turn your single coil into a double and vice-versa!

Forget the effects loop on your amp. Sounds awful. Go right in the front of the amp like any effects pedal. You can also use just like a poo load of separate stomp boxes. Set to manual and tweak away! You can also go between manual and stored presets on the fly! So if your a purest, make up yur own presets and even share them at Boss Tone Central! BTW forget the presets. Download the good stuff off Boss Tone Central first.

2 wires. Simple. Great tone. Built in tuner. Oh volume/wah/everything petal is great and totally customizable! Don't break your back or wallet, get an ME-80!

I can't believe how many 5 stars this unnatural pedal received! I'm a Mesa Boogie tube amp player and I realize there is a need for solid state sounds IE; full on metal etc. Line 6 is a wonderful solid state amp with many huge epic sounds (don't get this board and just spend a little more and get a Line 6 amp and you're set in the solid state world) Not only did this pedal get great reviews but I always just loved boss' effects, so I thought I was good to go. BUT this pedal is the thinnest, most unnatural, plated sound I've ever heard. It doesn't even come with an adapter. So I thought the pedal didn't get a long with my Mesa Boogie so I tried to plug it in direct to the PA (and it only comes with a 1/8th stereo plug in for recordings/PA .. O brother!) and it even sounded worse! No real stereo and it even got thinner!

Comments about Boss ME-80 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

As with most multi-effects pedals the me80 will need some tweaking here and there but for the price and ease of use this pedal is nice. Much easier to use than the other pedals I have owned such as the pod500hd which is almost impossible to set up without the graphic interface software. The boss me80 come with graphic interface software which I tried but found I would rather use the knobs for better control. If you like Boss pedals then you'll enjoy this one.

Comments about Boss ME-80 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

This has fantastic sound effects. In all practicality it has an almost infinite amount of settings for different sounds. The 9 preset sounds and the 9 user preset sounds can be altered by either selecting another setting on the rotary knobs or by pressing on a different foot controller. And everything ties into the WAH control that can be used to control volume or WAH or the off position. I am also getting some cool sounds by connecting my old stomp boxes to the input and output of the ME-80.

Comments about Boss ME-80 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

I've been playing over 25 yrs, started out with cheap Arion pedals, moved on to DOD and eventually landed on using Boss. I used the Boss GT-8 prior to this and loved it, but it seen better days and needed to be replaced, so chose the ME-80 over individual pedals. I was amazed how much easier the ME-80 was to set up straight out the box. Lots of presets to choose if that is your desire, but I personally went with manual mode and set each pedal to the desired effect. Each effect is simple to set up in manual mode, the only downside is that unlike the GT-8, the ME-80 does not allow you to save your effect settings in Manual mode (You can save them to a bank for use only in Preset mode), so it is possible while transporting that your manual settings can be changed if the control knobs are disturbed.

I have used the ME-80 in my 100w Marshall tube, 30w Marshall combo, direct through PA, and direct USB to my PC recording software. It produced great sounds both in practice studio and playing live with my Ovation shallow body acoustic and '94 Jackson Pro and LTD Les Paul electric guitars playing oldies, classic and hard rock ranging from Ten Years After, Kansas, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Metallica to name a few. My range of music is versatile as I love most music prior to late 90's, and even few since, lol. Headphone and MP3 inputs make it convenient for quiet practice sessions and is handy for travel situations where it may not be feasible to carry an amp along.

For the price, you can't go wrong if willing to spend little time tweaking it to your desire. The only downside I can say is that 1) overdrive effects lack proper equalization having only a Gain, Tone, and Volume control making it difficult to get that perfect meaty, crunch I prefer for the heavier stuff. 2)Inability to save effect settings in manual mode.

Comments about Boss ME-80 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

The ME-80 is an awesome tool no matter what style of music you play. I play in a worship band, which is mostly mild overdrive and spacey delays and volume swells. This pedal is perfect for applications such as this. The pedal actually has three different delay stages (two of which have tap tempo) so if you want to get really crazy you can. When playing on a solid state amp, I've found that it is actually better to treat the amp models sort of like an overdrive or distortion pedal because the EQ is more customizable (a 3 band as opposed to just a tone knob) and using the OD/DS stage as more of a solo boost. However, when playing on a tube amp that has a decent gain stage built in, I have found it better to stay away from the amp models. That being said, I have been able to get some pretty sweet metal, blues, and classic rock tones out of this thing after messing with the models and the EQ for a bit. I will say that it takes some time to really get what you're looking for. Because there are so many different ways to shape your tone, the possibilities are literally endless. This is both a pro and a con, because with choices come indecisiveness.

All in all this unit is awesome. It has allowed me to mess around with and learn to use effects that I would have never bought or even tried out without them being already built in to this pedal. It can give some awesome character to any amp you plug it into and also gives the option of going direct in to a PA due to the amp models. For the price of a basic delay with tap tempo and an OD pedal, you get every effect you will ever need. Is it gonna make your cheap amp sound like a dual rectifier? Definitely not. But it will give you options that you never thought you would have and makes playing guitar feel fun and new all over again. It's a great product that I could not live without.

I am retired from live gigs and now play mostly at home, with headphones. The ME-80 is just about ideal for me. I used to have the predecessor product - MD-70 - and it had some shortcomings. The ME-80 is a huge improvement. It sounds better and offers additional controls over effects and EQ. The Aux In and Headphones Out work as advertised. The prerecorded music (Aux In) and the guitar (Headphones Out) both sound just as they would through speaker cabinets built for the task - no small accomplishment.

I have stayed away from multi-effects pedals because most of those that I have tried were not designed for country players looking for the Telecaster sound. Certainly the presets were most always variations on distortion. This unit is so versatile! I dialed up some very clean sounds in Manual Mode and made some sweet lead tones with plenty of drive and punch. Slammed it straight into my Twin Reverb and it came out swinging. You can really dig into the options and come up with some great tones. If you're worried that this was created for the rock gods only, I assure you this can produce the TWANG!
