This pedal does what you need folks. i've had this pedal for the past 2 years and im here to tell you that this is best noise gate i've used BY FAR!! I use a ton of gain and this thing just keeps everything nice and tight. This will take a bit for me to explain, but this will be VERY helpful. Here's my rig; 5150 > NS-2(OUT) and (IN) to my wireless. NS-2(RETURN)>CH-1>SD-1>JD-4S>ZW WAH>NS-2(SEND). Set the Threshold to 3'o clock and use the volume knob on your guitar to control the amount of gain you want and you're set. Just turn the pedal on and leave it alone! I couldnt be happier with my setup(that is until i get a HUSH Super C for the efx loop!)

I should start by telling you all that i play modern metal, not classic rock or anything close. I bought this pedal a few years back hoping to squash out the hiss in my amp due to my use of an overdrive in front of the amp.I used it in front of my amp with a ts9 in its little effects loop. it was very difficult to get the start-stop quick djent style stuff i wanted without a feedback remnant always cutting in. also, there was a noticable amount of cut on any palm-muted notes and really any note played would not sustain naturally. any setting on the decay would not help. but, i had to have the threshold up pretty high to knock out the hiss. you must also know that i am using a horrific amount of gain with a 6505+. I have the post gain maxed out and most other things maxed out as well. After much research and saving, i invested in the isp decimater g-string. this product was on a whole other level. the things that the ns-2 lacked this thing just has. It senses when you are playing, instead of opening a gate when you play loud enough. Even with my extreme gain settings, overdrive in front, booster in the effects loop, and volume all the way up on my guitar, i can start-stop all day long just like periphery and animals as leaders. plus, my palm muted notes fade naturally as do normally fretted notes. Another thing i have recently learned is that the ns-2 manufacturing process uses lead free solder, whereas the ns-1 has lead based solder. This resulted in a big difference in signal integrity, and is very evident if you leave the pedal on bypass and play something, then removeit from the chain, and play something. it darkens the tone alot.

In conclusion, if you want play the new styles of metal with all the gain and start-stop, buy the isp decimater g-string or pro rack g.

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

If your using a high gain amplifier, or running your guitar through a series of pedals, than you need to do your band mates and your audience a favor and use a noise gate. The BOSS NS-2 is an excellent noise gate and I think most people would be very satisfied with it's performance.

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

This pedal is great if you use it well. I found that there are 2 ways to use it: 1-after all your noisy pedals and effects, in a linear mode, or 2 - use all the noisy pedals in the "Send/Return" chain.
The second option is much better because you can really control the threshold and decay you want.
On my research I saw that this is the most versatille pedal for the money and bought it. So far it is doing exactly what I expected from it.
Bottom line this is a great noise gate.

I still can't seem to figure out what people are talking about when they say this thing sucks tone. I've had mine just over a year now and I still wonder how I ever got by with out it. The bottom line is that it does exactly what you need it to and nothing less. If you play guitar and love having lots of unnecessary noise and feedback, you could probably survive with out one. But for everyone else, get the NS-2! You wont regret it.

I'm playing out of a peavey 6505+ and this thing is AWESOME. I never had one for the first six months and now im kicking myself wishing i got one 6 months ago. i can play on the lead channel with the gain up EXTREMELY high and no feedback. Before i got it, you had to be SO good at muting all strings. just the slight bump would turn into a screech. now that i have this, my amp rips and it seriously sounds EXACTLY like Oli Herberts set up.

Great Noise Suppressor Not Tone Sucker

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

After reading the comments on this pedal and checking out the videos of it in action on Youtube, I decided to try it out. First, the people who said it "sucks tone" are right BUT ONLY IF they turned the Threshold Level knob all the way up. IF they were smart enough to read the instructions (Admittedly, the instructions could be better. Looks like they were written by someone for whom English was not their primary language. If you're still not sure how to get the most out of it, check out Youtube, they have some great vids showing how to use it properly.) So do what the instructions tell you to do, adjust the Threshold and Decay knobs properly, and you'll have no problems with your tone. This pedal works great with guitar, bass or keyboards. It removed all the hiss from my signal chain when I tried it with guitar and bass and adjusted it to each instrument. Absolute silence! From a tube amp! Love it!The pedal comes with a "wall wart" so you can plug it into your power strip and don't have to use a battery all the time (it comes with a 9V battery already hooked up so all you have to do is plug and play, just don't leave the cables plugged in or it will drain the battery). This pedal also has an additional power line out that, when used together with the optional BOSS PCS-20A Parallel DC Cord, lets you hook up as many as 8 additional BOSS pedals without taking up any more outlets on your power strip. Bottom line - Great pedal for the price! Just Remember -"WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!"

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

Owner of 4 years of this pedal. I play high gain death metal and never had any problem with it. I use it at my band's practices, for recording and live performances. I used it with a Rocktron Vendetta, Peavey 6505+, ENGL rackmount and it always has done a wonderful job. It will suck up your tone only if you turn it all the way up. You do, however, have to find the right balance of gain from your amp and the level of the pedal to make it work at its best. Once it's done, it will never leave your pedalboard.

A good noise gate is a key element for your rig, and the Boss NS-2 is a great candidate. The ISP Decimator is great too, but since I never had any problems with the Boss NS-2, I never felt the need to buy anything else.

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

All-in-all this pedal is good. I'm playing through a mesa boogie roadking 2x12 (dual rectifier). I play in a power/heavy metal band, so we do high gain stuff. I also use a ts-9dx to boost my signal and throw a little extra grit on it. I'm also playing through a pair of blackout humbuckers with the gain boost enganged. I'm also using an eq pedal in my fx-loop but no extra level boost (I show some restraint). So, in otherwords, the high gain channel on my amp needs some noise suppression.

When plugging my guitar in and setting it up in my fx-loop in what people on-line seem to call the "x-pattern", (after all 2-3 of the other pedals I use) I notice a change in my tone when I activate this pedal. Also, I have to mess around with my amp a little too much to help the NS-2 do its job. Basically I want a pedal that I can throw in my loop or something and kill the feedback and hum but not change my sound, or make ME change MY sound. This doesn't quite pull it off. It's way better than nothing, but if you play really high gain stuff like I do, consider yourself warned. Really good, but not quite the total package.

Boss has been known for great pedals, and this is one of them. I bought this on sale for 15% off. I never wanted to practice because i could never get rid of the static and hum coming from my amp and now I have never practiced more. I love it. Very simple to use and i love the mute option for tuning.

I knew I could not go wrong by chosing the name BOSS!! This pedal does exactly what it suppose to do, cuts out line noise. Before buying this I would open up my recording program and turn everything on and hit record, you can see the line noise running across the track but not with the BOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor hooked up on your board. It has cut out my line noise completly!!! Even if I accidently bump my guitar during recording the Boss does not let it be heard on my tracks. No feedback no hiss no humming. As of now I have bought quiet a few things from Musicians Friend and out of all of them the only thing that I have worn out is picks and Guitar Stringslol. This is a must have for any Guitarist even if your just fun jamming in your bedroom I know you will appreciate theBOSS NS-2 Noise Suppressor. I am very happy to have it added into my gear bag!!

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

I do a lot of recording in a home studio. I have a pedal Pedal Train Pro board with 4 different distorion/fuzz/overdrive pedals and a Flanger and Phaser, all of which produce unwanted noise in addition to noise generated by the guitar pickups, single coil or humbuckers. This pedal allows me to run the distortion peds and the phase/flange through the loop while keeping my time based pedals (reverb and delay) out of the loop so that the gate does not impede the reverb/delay. This pedal does a great job. My only regret is that I did not buy this years ago. As for the pedal coloring the sound? I hear no difference whatsoever. Loss of tone is not so much a pedal problem but having a long signal chain. If you hear the tone change try using the tone control on your ax, on your amp, or on your pedal board. Thats why we have them. It's not rockket science.

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

I bought this pedal a couple weeks ago, needing something to eliminate the hum from my Boss MD-2 (Mega Distortion) and SD-1 (Super Overdrive), and this little guy does a great job. I like the options of being able to mute, put on noise gate, or bypass all in a single knob. This allows me to change guitars and tune (etc.) when I want to silently, and not have to worry about my other pedals. The noise gate itself is perfect for just about any sounds or effects, but I knocked it a little because as you use heavier distortions the gate isn't strong enough so it sort of has to fade in to do the job. However, being mainly a 70's player, I don't need as heavy of distortions anyway so this pedal does exactly what I need it to. Thanks again Boss for another quality affordable pedal!

You can't just throw this pedal into your chain or effects loop and expect it to work. I did that and the pedal made more noise than anything else. I checked the instructions and then hooked it up and it works like a dream now. There is total silence whenever I stop playing now

Comments about Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal:

If you play a tube head and use a favorite stomp box for a bit more drive for solos, this is a must have. Follow the directions and put your favorite stomp OD pedal in the loop of the NS-2. Run your guitar through the in and out of the NS-2 and into your high gain amp. I use a Boss SD-1 in front of a Soldano SLO100 head, and I'm telling you, this NS-2 is a miracle pedal. I can have the SLO cranked on the OD channel AND the SD-1 engaged and stop playing at any second, and ZERO NOISE! Plus, you can still fade out sustaining notes naturally with no harsh cut offs like most Hush style units. Yngwie uses this same pedal for his noise reduction, and I see why. It just doesn't get better than this for tube head/overdrive stomp box users.

I spent the money to ship it back. I found it frustrating how the noise fades in and out when you play. Does kill sound when you are not playing anything. Id recommend saving up for something better.

I have a 6505+ 112 and it screams and hums like crazy at band practice volumes. I ended up buying this pedal and it really tames it alot. You have to use the X method though for it to really work and cut the feedback and amp hum. I have my set up with the threshold set at 3 o clock and the threshold at 9 o clock area and cant tell a difference in the tone at all. For the price I paid im very happy with it and would buy again for sure

I use this with a 6505 and a MXR ZW-44 and it works amazingly well. It not only eliminates noise between playing but I've noticed that it makes what I'm playing a bit clearer as well and in some way enhances the sound to my ears but I just cant figure how. I waited a whole 5 years before getting this and only tried one other noise gate before this and I didn't like it. I had a love/hate relationship with this amp in all those years, well now it's all love. I feel bad every time I think about how long I had this amp without this pedal.
