I just want to clarify something that might be misleading. Upon re-reading my review (below) I might have left the impression the RV-5 can sound JUST LIKE a Fender Reverb tank. It's sound is too modern for that. If that's what you need, you might want to try the Boss FRV-1 '63 Fender Reverb Pedal which models the original Fender Reverb Tank.Having said that, this is still a terrific pedal capable of creating amazing reverb effects, as long as you like more modern sounds than the original Fender Tank.I suppliment mine with analog delay and tremelo pedals that add effects beyond the range of the RV-5. And I will probably buy an FRV-1 to put behind it or just save up and eventually get a Fender Reverb Tank for a completely original reverb when I want that exact sound. Until then, the RV-5 lets me create amazing if modern reverb effects.I hope that clears things up.

I thought I would love this pedal. I don't. As people have mentioned, there are one or two good sounds - hall and room. The rest are just lousy. Very dissappointing. It is not worth the money. Like most Boss pedals, it's built like a tank. So you can have a lifetime of lousy sounding reverb. Many people have written that this is a very good for what it is. I disagree. It is not a pleasant sounding reverb pedal at all. And very expensive. So what's so good about that? I returned mine.

I prefer the Mod and Hall effect. The spring produces a "boing" that should be a bug in the programming, definitely NOT a good model good.

Comments about Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb Effects Pedal:

The thing I've noticed is that this pedal is appreciated according to taste. I know people who love this pedal and some who despise it. My guitarist owned this for a while and said he hated it, he then sold it to me and I absolutely adore it.

The reason being is that he wanted a more generic reverb tone, which isn't best on the RV-5. I wanted this pedal for the Modulate mode and it works amazingly. This pedal has variety but people think the other modes sound "metallic". However the modulate mode is heavenly and the only mode I use it for.

If you're looking for a solid all around reverb, I wouldn't recommend this to you. I would recommend more a Hall of Fame or Reverberator. If you want spacey ambient reverb tone, this is a great pedal. A little bit on the spendy side considering what you're getting in return but you can find this pedal used for around 120-130 than that's a good deal. Great pedal but shows it's voice to particular guitarists.

              Nice and Cheap. Works great!

Comments about Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb Effects Pedal:

Well, I bought this unit really cheap. I was going to resell for a nice profit. But I had to test it first, and now its part of the pedal board. I thought I would hate this thing. But man the modulated reverb is a dream. Its amibence so nice it'll make you slap your mama in the face. Play a C to Em with the modulated on and all the knobs on full, and you will understand.

              Wow-ie-wow-Wow
              Modulated mode, Yes!
              Good, not true bypass.
              Good price!

First off, this was my first pedal and I have owned it for about 10 years so I have had plenty of time to tweek it. I love my digital reverb pedal and I have it set right were I like it. It sounds incredible but it did take a long time to find the effect that I liked the best so if you have the time and patience this pedal is great. If you want something you don't have to mess with or you just don't know how to EQ you sound, this one's not for you.

              Not for me!

              By eNo

              from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb Effects Pedal:

I got this pedal to give my reverb on a new amp I got. I normally play through a Fender Deluxe Reverb, so I've never needed a pedal before... but I got a killer Orange tube amp and I needed some reverb, so I got this pedal. After a long time (like 4-5 hours) of putting the pedal through its paces I found that the vast majority of the settings on the pedal are total crap... not even useful either in a live or recording environment, unless your just weird. There are a few setting that are OK, so I dialed a setting in that I could live with and told myself I just dial it in over time. Well, time went by... I dialed... and dialed... and dialed... still don't like. I finally sold this pedal on eBay for $10 less than retail and bought a different reverb pedal that is way better and I love. I'm not saying this pedal is crap... the reverb was just not to my personal liking. Other than that it looked well constructed and tough, and held on to its resale value well.

I've been looking for a reverb pedal for months that doesn't suck tone like a black hole. And this is the one! I ran it in front on my Dual Recto and didn't like it, but then put it through the effects loop and it was perfect. I didn't expect every setting to work for me of course, but like almost all amps that just have one reverb, I wanted to find the reverb sound I wanted and I did, it sounds great. Don't be afraid to get one and look for YOUR sound, I found mine.

              Don't waste your money

Comments about Boss RV-5 Digital Reverb Effects Pedal:

I have to start by saying I'm a huge reverb fan. After reading the reviews I thought this pedal was just what i was looking for: Realistic reverb from a stomp box. That is not what I got. This was the most disapointing pedal I have ever used.I know what good reverb sounds like. I own, have owned, and have used used amps that are known for there killer reverb. There is not so much as a hint of quality reverb in this pedal. I almost feel sorry for the reviewers who have said this is the best reverb they've had or that it rivals there amps real spring reverb. What on earth are they playing through? And dont get me wrong, i'm not giving this pedal a bad review because it's digital. I use and have used some very realistic digital reverbs. In the end I was hoping that the pedal was just defective, but, a trip down to a local music store proved otherwise. The guys at the store had nothing good to say about is as well. Needless to say, I returned the pedal.
