OVERVIEW

A boutique-style 100W head with Infinium and Tri-Mode Rectifier.

The Bugera Trirec features a Varipower dial that scales output power from 1W to 100W, giving you sweet power tube saturation at apartment-friendly volumes. The Trirec gives you three preamp channels, each with a wide array of sonic options, internal reverb, an adjustable and remote switchable boost, an FX loop and three rectifier modes to choose from (tube, silicon diode, tube and silicon diode).

Rectifiers convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC), giving your guitar amp the power it needs to rock. Most of todays amps feature solid state rectifiers which have high power output and tight bass response. But many guitarists prefer tube-based rectifiers, which are known for their œsag effect “ this basically means when you slam a chord, it doesnt reach its full volume right away, but instead makes a tough initial impact before quickly blossoming into a classic rock ultimatum. With the Bugera Trirec, both breeds of rectifier are alive and well in the same amp. You can even use them at the same time. Choose Silicon Diodes for high power and tight bass, Tubes (2 x 5U4 tubes) for lower power and the almighty œsag, or a combination of the two called Tubes & Diodes for medium-powered operation spiked with equal parts punch and vintage grace.

Three really is the magic number
Three is a recurring number when it comes to the awesome features of the Trirec. There are three preamp channels, each with three-band EQ, Presence, Volume and Gain controls. Channel 1 gives you pristine cleans and a DRIVE setting for a dynamic crunch tone. Channels 2 and 3 give you three overdrive modes: Classic for blues and classic rock sounds, Vintage for more gain for hard rock, and Modern for pure, maniacal metal. Five 12AX7 tubes give the Trirecs preamp stage the mojo to cover this vast tonal palette. The output stage contains 4 x 6L6 tubes (convertible to 4 x EL34 tubes”not included).

Varipower
Theres nothing like the roaring œsoft-clip sound of saturated power tubes, but these tones are normally accessible only when an amps volume is cranked. Unfortunately, this kind of volume isnt an option when youre jamming away in your apartment at 3 a.m., or if youre gigging in a tiny club. Thats why the Trirec features the Varipower rotary control, which adjusts output power anywhere from 1 to 100 watts. Whether youre trying to record a searing solo without waking the neighbors, or blowing the roof off the biggest gig of your life, the Trirec is always ready to provide the sound of overdriven tube fury.

Check out the back side on this one
The Trirecs incredible tonal variations make it a recording studio gem, but its got the features that make it equally amazing on stage. The back panel features a LINE OUT jack with dedicated Level knob for sending signal to a slave amp, as well as loudspeaker jacks with switchable impedance (16, 8 or 4 ohms), making this amplifier compatible with virtually any speaker cabinet. The built-in FX Loop has controls for adjusting the output (send) and return levels separately. The associated Assign knob has four states: FX Loop is always on, has an individual status per channel, is activated via footswitch, or is deactivated. You also get six External Switching jacks that allow channel switching, BOOST, REVERB and FX LOOP to be controlled by an external switching system. This is where youll find the input for the FSB106A footswitch, which also controls these parameters, and offers a MIDI IN/THRU connection controlling the Trirec in sync with your MIDI setup.

I had been reading and watching web videos about this amp since 2010 and thought it would never actually be released. But when they finally became available around 8/13 I was first to order one. I have to say that is amp actually lives up to all the hype that surrounded it prior to its release. Straight out of the box this thing kicks major buttox. That unique mesa-like distortion tone is unmistakably there on channels 2 & 3. By far my favorite feature of this amp is the "Varipower" knob that adjust the power tubes output from the full 100+ watts down to about 5 watts. I prefer to keep the knob around what I approximate to be 25 watts in my home studio. This way you get some power tube distortion but still have enough power to let the full bass response of the amp come through. All of the eleven tubes in the amp are Chinese made and are all of high quality. This includes 5 12AX7s, 4 6L6GCs, and the 2 big 5U4 rectifier tubes. I usually like to play with the tone by switching out both preamp and power tubes. But with this amp it sounds so good out of the box I have no desire to do that, at least for now. I really love the sound of this amp for heavy palm muted rhythm guitar riffs. It has that wicked mesa-like voicing in the lower midrange I don't get with any of my other amps. The build quality is good for a Chinese made amp. I have had no issues with it in the few months I've had it and don't anticipate any. But I feel good knowing that it does include a 3 year warranty from Bugera. The tolex that covers the amp is thick with a nice grain pattern and a real leather handle. The amp is also has very low hiss even at high distortion levels which is great for players that don't use a noise gate. I own several other 100 watt guitar amp heads. Some that cost 3 times what this amp cost, but this has become my favorite and main amp. I am actually looking to sell off a few of those other amps because this amp can do what they do and more. Thanks to the Modern, Classic, Vintage switches on the 2 dirty channels I can get most any distortion tone required. This amp is everything I expected it to be and I'm very satisfied with the purchase of this amp.

The tone is excellent. It's a gain monster. With my hush 2c it's perfect. However, the bad. I received my brand new head with rusted pins on the footswitch and the footswitch input completely corroded on the head itself. Bugera is willing to replace it with a refurbished head. So I buy new receive refurb as replacement. Nice huh? M.I. won't help either. So from what I've heard about these, it's about 50/50 that you'll get one with no issues. Very "Chinese" to say the least. If you get one on clearance I say take your chances. I'd never buy one at full price.

Comments about Bugera Trirec 100W 3-Channel Tube Guitar Amplifier Head:

As a person who has experience with a number of boutique amplifiers I must say the TriRec is very impressive. It produces monstrous tones with little effort. You'll hear a lot gf guys who use pro gear talking about leaving the knobs at noon and getting great sounds. That's exactly how the TriRec comes across and yet it's a tweakers delight. There are so many options for changing the sounds across the 3 channels and when you mix that with Diode vs Tube (or combined!) rectifier settings + the ability to put pretty much any valve you can think of in the mix without needing to re-bias you have an instant winner.

As a guy who has owned a variety of Engl and Diezel amps I can truly say that the Bugera ranks up there with them in terms of sound quality and features. I would argue that it's easier to dial in a great dirty sound on the Bugera and the quality of the tone is top notch.

The big concern with Bugera is build quality but so far it hasn't been an issue and I'm really hoping that it holds up as the Trirec has quickly become my favorite amp in the arsenal.

Channel switching, with the included pedalboard, can be a bit noisy but that's the only negative I could draw out at this time. The fact that a midi based controller is included with the amp at this price point is simply amazing.

I highly recommend those who are interested in a variety of tones include ultra modern and classic to check this amp out. You won't be disappointed.

Comments about Bugera Trirec 100W 3-Channel Tube Guitar Amplifier Head:

A really nice amp all around with good tonal variation. But the problem is with the gain. Even on the lead overdrive channel with the gain fully clockwise, it was not near enough. Maxing out the gain on the Burgera felt like a 5 on a Mesa Boogie. I had assumed that with (5) 12AX7 tubes in the preamp that it would provide superb sustain and great touch sensitivity.

It did not provide this though and so I was forced to return it. If you are looking for moderately strong distortion and good crunch, then this amp is a winner. If you are looking for infinite sustain for intricate runs aka Joe Satriani or Vai, then the Trirec Infinium is the wrong amp.

Also, a slight audible click when switching channels.

Comments about Bugera Trirec 100W 3-Channel Tube Guitar Amplifier Head:

I run this amp through an old Sunn 2x10 cabinet, which is a little small for this guy, but perfectly meets my home/practice needs. I have a Mexican HSS Strat and an Epi LP Studio, both of which sound absolutely marvelous on all channels. The cleans are sparkly and pristine, with jangle and quack from the Strat and rich, clear complexity from the LP. Channel 1's gain maxes out in the range of Danzig-era Misfits, Channel 2 maxes out somewhere in Lateralus territory, and Channel 3 is pure death/black/core insanity on both settings.

The Boost feature is cool, and makes this functionally a 6-channel amp. It has a lot of knobs, but they're very intuitive and beautiful tones are easy to find. It gets crazy loud even through my little 2x10, but still sounds great at bedroom levels. Infinium is cool, I'm definitely planning on putting some exotic tubes in it eventually, but the stock ones sound just fine to me. Only cons would be that it is HEAVY (as amps with 10+ tubes tend to be), and that mine has had an issue picking up radio signals. I do live high on a hill above a major city, but I would have hoped that it would be shielded better. Easy fix, but still. Channel switching is instantaneous, but there is a pop, which doesn't bother me but might bother some people. Knobs feel a little cheap, but I've had no issues with it so far.

Overall, a great, versatile amp for the stage or home studio. I'm very happy with it.

Comments about Bugera Trirec 100W 3-Channel Tube Guitar Amplifier Head:

I've had this monster for about 2 years now. My original plan was to buy the amp and then swap out all the (presumably janky) stock Bugera tubes with JJ 6V6's to improve the tone and keep the volume under control. This has thusfar proven completely unnecessary in both regards.

There are a few things that make this amp a colossal winner in my books:

          1. Sounds incredible - There are 3 channels, they all do something different, and they all sound equally amazing. Humbuckers or single coils, any kinda speaker configuration you can throw at it, any genre of music from funk to Cannibal Corpse--it all just sounds good. Isn't that why we buy amps to begin with?

          2. You don't have to be a genius - I admit that when it first arrived, I was totally intimidated by all the different options the TriRec brings to the table. There's so many features that I almost read the manual--thankfully, the controls are all highly intuitive and usable tones abound on every channel at almost every possible setting.

          3. This thing will do anything - ANYTHING. It's marketed towards the hyper-modern heavy metal crowd, but this thing has the most unlimited potential and tonal flexibility of any amplifier I have ever played on. The Infinium nonsense makes this a tone-tweaker's dream, and takes a lot of the stress and guesswork out of using tube amps. I can't think of anyone who I wouldn't recommend this to--if you play an electric guitar and utilize clean tones and/or especially multiple gain stages, you should give this monster a look.

It is not perfect. It weighs more than most of the cabinets I've played it through. There is usually an audible 'pop' when switching channels. There is a totally noticeable level of ambient hiss (especially at the higher gain stages) and mine also sometimes picks up AM radio.

At the same time, "aww, those guys rocked the house until dude's amp popped when he switched channels and then that totally ruined it for me," said literally nobody ever.

I've had this amp for about 2 years now. I purchased New. I only played it about 6 hours total in my house. Just never got a sound i liked from it. with all kinds of guitars and cabs i just never got a good sound. (Orange 4x12, Marshall 4x12, vintage Laney 2x10/1x15, Sunn 2x15) Amp has been in temp/humidity controlled jam room for 2 years.

I plugged it in this past month, and the amp was dead. I have a ton of amps, and upgrade/modify them sometimes and they all work even if they have been sitting for years. (Orange, Sound City, Sunn, Peavey, Fender, Laney)(I did not mod this amp. I opened it up after it died. It is a Rats nest of wiring and super thin PCB boards. Just not built to handle any abuse in my eyes).
Changed out all the tubes, and that was not the Issue, FYI.
I'd recommend getting a much better quality Used amp. Quite a few inexpensive Peavey heads can be found with a similar tone. (Valveking, XXX)
I've purchased Two Behringer/Bugera products in the last 3 years. both died after hours of use.

I learned my lesson after that. Will not by another Behringer product. Sorry if you think this amp sounds good. I think anyone that believes that just has not heard Great sounding gear. Seems like people go from Solid State, to cheap Tube gear. So i can see how it may sound better when people are coming from low priced SS gear.
