I bought this headphone amp to preserve domestic tranquility. I like to hear what I'm attempting to play, but my wife does not.... The Pocket Rock-It is a nearly ideal solution. Sounding far better than my Epiphone Studio 105 practice amp, this represents an excellent solution for those wanting to practice without disturbing others, but who don't want to sacrifice the sound available from a tube type amp driving a 12" speaker. I love the clean setting with chorus for my Les Paul Studio and its two, hot humbucker pickups. I tried the distortion setting, and it sounds like any tube equipped amp. But, I just don't very often use that setting on any amp. Others have noticed excessive white noise from this little amp, and I also found that the white noise is present and that the level increases as the volume control is advanced. But, I discovered that by turning up the volume on my guitar, I could turn down the amp volume to the point that the noise vanished, and the earphone volume was as loud as anyone with normal hearing would want to listen to. Also, and to my surprise, the headphones that come with it work quite well, comparing in sound quality (for guitar music) to my high end Sony phones. My only real complaint relates to the mounting of the Pocket Rock-It on my Lester. The amp mounts to the instrument via it's 1/4" phone plug, but the location of the output jack on the Les Paul is on the side of the body. This makes adjustment inconvenient. You can't see it, and you have to turn the guitar over to make adjustments. Overall I'm quite pleased and would recommend this little amp to anyone needing to practice quietly.

If you simply looking for something to let you hear your guitar a little better when you're practicing late at night next to your roommates bedroom then this thing will do the trick. It's reasonably priced for what you get but you do pay for exactly what you get and nothing more. The supplied headphones are a joke, if you have a larger set I would definately recommend using them. The effects are simply not good and there's no sort of reverb to help get a rounded, real sound. Overall, it has worked fine for me and it's convienant but the sound quality lacks.

works for me

i've been using this amp for about 3 years, but just in the last year did i decide to power my 2 x 12 cab with it. just picked up an adapter at the local radio shack. it works great for a low volume amp. i use a gt-3 processor in between my guitar and the amp. i'm very pleased with the tones i've got from the amp in this scenerio. i can play at tv volumes with acceptable tone with out waking my family.

It'll Never Be A Full Stack....

By Still Learning-b9LIH

...but then, it's not meant to be. As a pure practice device, it's worked out fine for me w/ one exception. As one reviewer stated earlier, on any Les Paul type body, with the cord jack on the side, adjustments are a pain. also, mine pops out of my guitar fairly easily. I'm going to guess that this is a fluke. For the money, I don't think it's a bad deal at all. Just remember...it isn't a full stack!

An Excellent Headphone Amp

By HateMachine#7

from fowlerville, MI

This is the headphone amp to buy. The only thing I dislike are the headphones. They do lack a bit of the lower end. That is very minor thing to me though. I do like how the unit plugs into the guitar itself so you don't have a wire from your guitar to the amp. It's fairly small, about the size of a pager (if anyone remembers what those are). I am very impressed with the 2 distortion sounds and how much you can tweak em. So in short I would definitely buy this unit if I were looking for a headphone amp.

One of the best headphone amps around

By .-U-v1l

Very dependable, 2 good distortion/overdrive sounds, good clean sound, very easy to use to record direct to computer or tapedeck. Better sounds than the similar priced Arion Hotwatt, more study than the Rockman, easy to plug into Gibson or Strat-style guitars - good sound with low output single coil pickups, really good sounds out of humbuckers.

It is very convenient, efficient, and the best advantage is that you can play it whereever you are.

A Must Have

By Putz

from Alexandria, Minnesota

The Pocket Rocket is a "must have". This little gem makes my ES 335 sound like it's being played through a tube stack. It's got good sustain, and the distortion effects are fun. Played with no effects the sound produced through the headphones is pure. My only beef is the slider volume control is a little scratchy but once the volume is set you don't have to mess with it much. For the money paid it's a good value. I'd buy it again.

Great practice tool

By Ageing Rocker Geek

I have played actively for years but have been trying to upgrade my chops. Wife didn't like loud noise from practice room so I bought this as well as some blues backing tracks on CD. Loaded those to my ipod which goes to the aux in. This thing is REALLY cool. Sounds good too.
