I got this pedal for a little extra boost and saturation on my leads, and it works with a good tone too. The one real down side to this pedal is its huge amount of feedback, but with the way i have it set up in my rig, it doesn't really affect me.So for what i use this pedal for, it works out great, however i wouldn't use it to get any distortion for a rhythm tone, though i like to get my main tone from my amp.
I would say this would be good for a Les Paulinto the Normal Channel of an old 4 input non master volume Marshall. The tone is somewhat like the tube screamers that keep a bit of clean mixed with the overdrive. This is very trebly, even with the tone all the way down the tone with a single coil was too bright. That's why I say its good for a humbucker into a bassy channel for classic overdrive. In no way is this a heavy metal tone.
This thing is NOT the gimmick it looks like on the surface. I needed another overdrive pedal for my bass and I heard good things about the Blood Drive so I figured I'd give it a shot, and honestly it is one of the best purchases I've made here.It can range in tone from dark to aggressive, and from clean to dirty, and from one end to the other it sounds superb when I run my Squier P/J bass through it, and it won't rob your instrument of any of its character. For as good as this pedal sounds, I'm currently at a loss to figure out what other FX I could possibly use on its chain. One of the most incredible aspects of this pedal is its long, clean sustain. It adds some amazing harmonics to my higher strings that I'm not even sure I can replicate with my studio software. This thing's got even more potential than I'd even imagined.Concerning structural quality, it's not the MOST solid pedal I've laid my hands on, but it IS pretty sturdy - no rattles or weak spots, and even the battery (no, not included) is locked in place. Don't let the facade fool you - this is not a toy! Simply awesome all around.
Just got mine in the mail today. Upon first impression, I thought it was a pretty clunky pedal..its huge. I also noticed how incredibly dynamic the pedal is--It seems to really grasp nuances of your playing. The sound itself its absolutely wonderful through the clean channel. Its quite JUICY sounding, which I lovelovelovelove. I like my tones juicy, gritty and on the tighter side (not choking tight like a noise gate on full, just focused and not squishy/saggy/farty like a pushed fender or marshall amp). Now for my dislikes; The pedal isn't very transparent, in that it sucks out bass and adds mids (like a TS but with more gain). My Egnater Renegade is blessed with plenty of midrange, so it can get obnoxious with the BD on. Also the volume (inject) isn't like a clean boost..its adds more gain and QUITE a bit actually. So much gain that I thought the knobs were switched backwards. The unfortunate part to this is that when my pedal is engaged on the dirty chan, my clean channel with the pedal OFF is way louder and fatter. Obviously that's a problem; cleans should never be louder/fatter than your dirty. This isn't my first dirt pedal purchase since having my Egnater and I'm beginning to realize simply this; no pedal is gonna compete with what this amp is already capable of putting out. It simply rejects dirt pedals because the amp has all the mids it needs to cut through. I've tried boutique and I tried bargain too..unless the pedal is SUPER transparent or has no eq in it, my amp is better off left alone. Matter of fact, the amp has tons of gain in it as is (Alice in Chains/George Lynch tones are easily obtained!); I just wanted a boost in fine grit and to make my high notes less compressed.MY suggestion? For someone who has an amp that lacks dynamics & needs more mids and a cut in bass boominess...get the Blood Drive pedal NOW. Dont get a TS, get the Blood drive.
Hi, I purchased this one a week ago from here at a really nice price, I tried it with my American strat and also with a gibson studio, this pedal is amazingly good sounding, I couldn't believe it when I heard it... you can play metal, any sort of rock and blues too, I feel like this pedal is different nothing I have ever heard before definitely something amazing I have never tried a pedal like this before and I have a lot of pedals !!! 100% analog , true bypass and amazing quality what else can you ask for !!!
i got this the other day, and it is great if you aren't expecting a death metal sound. it gives me a great punk and classic rock sound, and if i use it with my boss metal zone, it gets a death metal sound. bottom line: great if you don't expect a death metal sound
I got this a few days ago and it's a great OD pedal. As a distortion pedal, not real great. But the distortion knob up all the way and you get some good rock and roll distortion (think ACDC or even old Danzig) but nothing really heavy. But this is great to dirty up a clean amp a bit for some blues or even country. And for the price it can't be beat.
I love this pedal, I got it for 40 bucks which made the deal even better. The whole thing is die cast metal with a rubber no skid pad on the bottom. Fantastic quality! I play horror punk and love that this pedal was analog and gave me a beautiful crunch not a super high sounding overgained toneless sound which alot of eletronic pedals do. Nothing against those sorts of pedals not my bag. I love the old analog sound just warm and great crunch for my bass.
A lot of people look at this pedal and think it's going to be a beast... To put it simple... it's not. I just got this pedal a few days ago, and it's amazing! I'm using as a boost pedal mainly, and it works like a dream. For the price, how can you not buy it. This is an amazing pedal.. Just don't expect to be playing metal with it.
the pedal has a nice sound. there is a level of tweaking required to find the best settings. each knob i found changes the sound more than anticipated. once i sat with it for a while and got the knobs exacly where i needed them it sounded fine. just make sure you have them set precisely where needed, little shifts make a big tone difference.
