I purchased this head here on closeout for under 500 bucks and I should be wearing a mask and holding a gun, cause this was a steal. A lot of people who write these ratings "claim" to be amp and guitar knowledgeable, when in fact they haven't cut their teeth yet. This head can do your bidding. I tried it through an MG(Marshall) cab, which breaks up easily(because of the size) and gives good bottom when you crank it up a bit. I aslo tried it through an XXL Peavey cab, which was "ok", but nothing special. Then I plugged it through my friends cab and was blown away(homemade with Vintage 30's). For the price, this head can't be beat. My only complaint was that the effects loop wasn't in stereo(like the Fender M80 Chorus), but who cares for this price. Crank it through a cab with Vin30's(and maybe a RAT distortion if you want more gain) and your jaw will drop! It comes stock with great tubes, a solid build, and a great warranty. A working musicians dream right?

I am huge on amps and I know a great amp when I try one. For the money this is a fantastic amp. But to compare it to some higher end amp companies and say that it can compete is wrong. At low volumes any amp with pre amps will sound heavy. Its hard to tell the difference between a marshall jcm and a mesa rectifier at low volumes not until you push up the volume and feel the real high end of a marshall or massive low end of a mesa. Not to say those are the two greatest amps. At high volumes or on the road this amp cant compare. For the price great amp but not a great future investment

this head is great. it is much cheaper than a marshall and it delivers a great tone. so what if it isn't loaded with effects that you would never need? it has an exploding tube tone that truthfully i could find in marshall for a long time for its price. i use 2 of this full stacks and play at big gigs and i used it with my band to open at concerts for a few classic rock bands. wonderful. A+++

    Crate BV120 Great Value

This head works great for a lot of applications. I wish it had a volume boost for leads but i do like the footswitchable fx loop and 12db pad to accomidate different fx combos. Pedals work great with it and it sounds good on it's own. It's got plenty of power and I prefer to use the power section only on the head. It has a very good clean power section for using a preamp into the fx return thus amp is power only. Works great for all applications if you know how a tube amp works and set everything up properly. Great amp for the price! Beats all those new marshalls that use ic chips for tone rather than the tubes...

    Best Head For Punk

    By WindowSeal

    from Sterling, CO

I play in a punk band and i was loking for an amp that was better than my little 15 watt Marshall, i didnt have much money and i wasnt really satisfied by anything until i found this head. This is the tone i have been looking for for months and it is great for any kind of punk music. I would definately reccomend this head.

    This Head Screams

    By NImrod-bPhEW

I just got the head today, and as soon as I opened the box I thought it was cool. Then when I plugged my Paul Classic into it, it was the sound I was searching for. TONE!!! and awesome crunch sounds. I play KISS covers and punk stuff and this nailed it. My other modeling amp just didn't have that tube tone. Tubes Rule!

    well worth the money

I just went out and bought it after 3 months of looking at it. The tubes, cheap but incredible! This beats the Marshall AVT series any day! Marshall amps are overpriced, but I would recommend the Marshall 1960A cab to go with this. That cab, can make any head sound better. If you buy this with the crate cabs, you won't get half the tone that you would from using it with the Marshall.

    Finally I Have Tone!!

    By Bobotron

    from Saskatchewan

I used to play a fricken solid state for the last six years and now I can hear myself playing over everyone else. I used to play a 100W Peavey but I was always trying to keep up with my buddy's Marshall (his is solid state as well) and now he's in trouble. Thanks Crate for the best amp I've ever played!!

    nice amp

    By elixier

I bought this amp head and cab after looking at other amps I was considering, I love this amp, the tone is excellent, nice crunch when you need it and crisp clean as well. Im glad I decided on this amp, its improved the sound of my guitars and live performances. MY band mates were like "Whoa dude you rock" hehe.

This amp head is well worth its money, although the amp distortion isn't what you'd want it to be. But I've always used a Metal Zone Boss pedal and a Digi Tech Delay pedal, so it's all good. This amp head goes well with the same cab so if your gonna by the head, might as well by the cab. Overall, I'd recommend it because, 1. it's not as much as a Marshall or Mesa, 2. It's a nice overall amp.
