Crate Powerblock 150W compact solid state guitar head: I've had mine for almost 8 months and it has not failed me yet. Despite some who have complained about noise, I have not experienced any more noise from mine than I would any other amp (any amp will get noisy if you crank it up loud enough, or if you're using single coils). Others have complained that it does not have a lot of gain, which is completely untrue. It will certainly not give you over-the-top gain (Pantera or the like), but it gets pretty darn chunky. I've got to give this baby a 9 for features, because although it has only one channel, it is small, light, and very portable. Those are 3 very important features. Anyone who has experienced problems with the amp failing at gigs or at high volumes has probably experienced one of two problems: the transformer is obviously cheap and not top-of-the-line, otherwise the amp itself would be more expensive, and it may get overloaded at high output. Also keep in mind that this is a solid state amp, and if you don't have enough power coming from an outlet (whether at home or at a gig), solid state circuitry is the first to cut-out.All you tube freaks out there will complain about the tone, you metal-heads will complain about not having enough gain, and all of you "active musicians" out there will certainly find some flaw in the amp. But, all things considered, this thing is affordable, small, lightweight, and sounds decent for a solid state amp. For the price, I don't think you can find anything comparable.

First off, this thing isn't the godsend that crate and seemingly the rest of the music world make it out to be. It's one channel isn't a clean channel, and you have to dial in so-so Crate gain to get any volume at all out of it. I ordered this to give some juice to my cab through my multi-effects processor, but the gain that the powerblock forces you to incorporate into your sound alters your effects and can wash out a lot of texture in your sound. Another thing...take note that if you are planning to use the powerblock in stereo...you have to have an impedence of 4 ohms on your speakers... a lot of cabinets are 8-16 ohms in stereo. You lose all stereo capability with the powerblock if you're not playing with 4 ohms impedence on your cab. Be informed.

First off, i do love this little amp, i play with a Fender FM412 cab and it gets a great tone, and if you play with a digitech metal master pedal, it give an excellent metal tone.however, due to the gain channel, it causes HUGE feedback issues, and you have to turn the gain down to at least 12 o clock to make sure you don't get the muddy double-distorted sound. and even then, if you turn the level up to past 12 o clock, it feeds back like a mother. a noise supressor helps greatly, but you still get the point.i reccomend buying it, but be prepared for a few noise issues
I bought a PowerBlock about 2 months ago, as a back-up to a Fender RocPro1000... After plugging it in, (running my guitar through a Boss GT6) It's now my PRIMARY head. Small, lightweight, LOUD, and built like a tank!I've used it for small gigs (100+ people) and some larger gigs, at least large in my opinion (1500-2000 people). It has served me well in all situations, never overheating, with 2-4 hour sets. It faithfully reproduces my pedal tones. Without the processor, I can dial in a nice clean,or a gritty dirty OD sound. It's definitely not high gain enough for a death metal player, but would do the trick for some AC/DCish stuff. That's right, I replaced a Fender 100 watt head, with a tube overdrive channel with this thing! As for those who have problems with it cutting off, I'd wager most cases are due to trying to plug it into cabs with too little resistance, or trying to use the stereo channels into a single stereo cab, which the manual tells you not to do.Plain and simply, you get WAY more than you pay for with this little beast. If I can get it for 100 bones like I did last time, I'll be buying two or three more!
Crate says this is designed for use with multiFX boxes, and that's how I use it. Pick the amp model, dial in the effects, set gain and EQ, and you're on. Very powerful. If you read the manual and push or release the mode button. It's cheap, powerful, reliable, switchable electricity for Europe... great.
This amp works really well for what I need, it sits on my living room floor to practice with my marshall distortion pedal when I have time. I have hooked it up to a cab and even without the pedal the sound was pretty good. The Distortion pedal was only really needed as a footswitch of sorts. My guitar is loaded with high gain emgs so on full gain with a nice marshall cab the distortion was pretty good. THe pedal deffinantly adds good versatility and tone. I recommend this amp to anybody needing something versitile and mobile. It can be the basis for a good setup if the proper guitar and distortion source is used. It basically just gets you safely from pedal to speakers, and does a fine job at it.
I bought this with great intentions and used it on my favorite cab and it sounded amazing. That is .. until it broke on me. This is truly an amazing piece... dont let it break on you ! youll be sad when its gone.
I bought this as a backup for my 100 lb.+ Mesa Boogie Rack to use with a Line 6 POD XT Live. I run the POD XT Live into the front with VERY LITTLE gain in order to use it as a power amp. I run this right into my Mesa Boogie 4 x 12 and it really sounds awesome! Definitely a great backup plan or something that is easier to get on an airplane! Plenty of power too! Not bad considering that the XT Live AND the Powerblock together cost me 1/10 of my Mesa rack. It doesn't sound quite as good, but then again - it better not!
The title says it all! When I hooked up my V-Amp 2 to this sucker, I couldn't believe the output this fella was putting out. Unbelievable, and after 2 1/2 hours of playing, the block never once overheated, or felt even remotely hot. A great investment, and one I believe I will cherish for years to come. Get one before their all gone!
My son is 15years old and quite the guitar schredder. He has a Peavey ValveKing100 (all tube) which is also a great amp! His second guitar player only had a practice amp. We went to the local guitar shop where CRATE POWEREBLOCK'S WERE ON SALE and played one. It really sounds great! It is really loud (I had to replace the 100watt 15"speaker I lent the kids because this amp blew it out!) You can max the gain and inch up the volume and the crunch is pretty darn good for a non tube amp. With the volume high and gain moderate (Clean) it sounds almost like a Twin or Dual Showman. The only slight drawback is that it "likes" 8ohms (or two separate 4ohms) so plugging a second 8 ohm cabinet in doesn't produce more power. I just bought an 8ohm 300watt eminence 15" for the blown cabinet and the kids are really rocking. Cheap, light, small, loud, sounds great.
I have been playing music for 33+ years and have tried many different amplifiers. I currently own a 64 Blackface Fender twin Reverb, Acoustic 270 and a couple little throw away amps not worth mentioning. I heard of this little gem from a musician friend of mine and stopped into the local music store to give this thing a try. I can tell you without question, this unit simply amazes me. I would put it up against my Twin or any other amp for that matter. I use a Digitech RP2000 and a Rat pedal, run it into the power block and you would think I had a Marshall stack! I hooked this thing up at a local gig and the guys in my band thought I had another amp hidden somewhere on the stage. If you are looking for an clean sounding, powerful amplifier, look no further. Save your back and sound great in the process!
This thing is loud. Because I use the triggerman cabinet, for mono it only uses 4 ohms or 16 ohms, and this head sends out 8 ohms mono(150 watts) or two 4 ohms (75 watts each). Since I plug 75 watts into the cab and its loud enough, I have another 75 watts for another cab if I ever need more volume and have an extra cab. So dont worry, its LOUD, but I recommend using some type of pedal setup or amp modeler, I use the behringer v-amp 2, and without it the powerblock wouldnt sound the best. The gain doesnt really give a "metal" gain that you'd think it would. Well its nice, trust me.
