OVERVIEW

Fantastic tone.

The Crate FlexWave FW65 is a mid-sized stage/rehearsal guitar combo amp that uses the FlexWave Evolution 5 preamp and Sequential Cascading Gain technology to pump 65 watts of rich, articulate tone through a 12" speaker. Variable 3-channel operation lets you switch between clean, dirty, and saturated channels with the included remote footswitch. And Digital Signal Processing (DSP) effects add separate delay, modulation, and reverb to your signal. Crate's Channel Tracking automatically stores your DSP settings, so the amp recalls which effect is assigned to each channel when you switch between them. Develop your own sound by tweaking the onboard 3-band EQ. The solo channel features Crate's proprietary Shape Control circuit for crafting dynamic custom lead tones. A built-in tuner ensures that you're constantly in tune.

I absolutely love this amp, I played it for around 5 years, where I bought it from a local music shop. It has served me well, and it will be so hard saying goodbye to my little buddy here. It helped me develop my sound, bringing back Gothenburg metal, and man, it's tone rocks my world. I recommend it to any metal guitarist who's like me, low on cash but developing rapidly.
I love the high gain feature, and I noticed that tweaking the Overdrive and Clean settings affect the tone of the high gain, shaping me to the perfect Melodeath tone.
It's super sturdy, it's still in great condition after 5 years of use, heavy use from my style of playing.
Couldn't have found a better amp for the price, I loved the Flexwave so much that I bumped up to the 100W on a 4x12.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had this amp for almost 5 years and it has served well through gigs at small venues and countless hours of practice in my room. For a long time the high gain channel was my go to distortion and it has a remarkable range of sounds when you tweak the overdrive channel EQ. The clean channel has a great sound and this amp handles pedals like a champ. It is very easy to dial in the tone that you want and has a lot of power for a little 1x12 combo. For the price this is one of the best amps that you can get.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Ive owned it for several months, and i began to think about selling it (it sounded muddy with my Strat, i couldnt get the blues sounds i wanted) until i switched practice places. I found that the sound gets much better when playing in a larger area with the volume cranked up. It mightve been just me, but im definitely keeping it. great bank for the buck, but not an amp for bedroom playing, but good for small shows

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp recently after watching vidoes of people playin olnine and I have to say it blew me away. The clean channel on this thing is amazing and the included effects are above average for built in effects. The Overdrive Channel gets good sound as well and the High Gain Channel is wicked. This is the perfect amp for sound sound quality and and price for those who our on a strict budget. Personally I would suggest you get this amp or a Marshall.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp over the pricer Fender Showman, and I have no regrets. I can craft my tone however I want, and it has just enough muscle to play live, and if anything has too much to play in my room. Overall, a very nice amp

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

First of all, This is amp is a huge bargain, and it definitely can get loud enough to play a show with. However, what I don't like about it is....The built in tuner sucks (not a big deal)There is no separate EQ for the high gain channel (It shares the EQ with the OD channel)My footswitch doesn't work properly...It makes my guitar cut in and out. At first I thought it was my cable.....and sometimes when you change the effects...it doesn't work. So I may just have gotten a bad one, but I would definitely not call this amp reliable.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp has 3 channels, all of which you can completely shape with the EQ (the high gain channel has a 'shape' knob). There is a reverb knob, Chorus (3 Levels), flanger (3 levels), Phaser (3 levels) and delay (slap, medium, long). The EQ lets you get bright, sparkling cleans or deep, crunchy gain. I can match almost any bands tone with this amp. It is definitely worth it.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had this amp a couple of years now. It replaced a Crate G40C that I'd had since 1988. I love Crate amps! I don't think there another solid state amp maker out there that has perfected rock 'n roll crunch like Crate.

As you can tell, I love the distorted channel. It can turn almost any guitar into a legitimate rock/metal weapon. My American tele was pretty unconvincing on this channel. That's to be expected though! I have six other electrics that have all sounded incredible distorted.

I was really looking forward to the overdrive channel when I ordered the amp. To tell you the truth, it's weak. It really lacks balls. I have a couple of guitars that sound great overdriven (one is the same American tele using the neck pickup), but I think that's despite my Crate's OD. The 3-band EQ on this channel is useful in that it effects the distorted channel as well.

My G40C and this amp both have nice clean channels with a 3 band EQ. It's not the beautiful clean channel that I've become spoiled by from my Fender amp, but it's very usable.

I don't use any of the effects other than reverb, which I like. I didn't care for the others, but they weren't a reason behind my purchase, and I haven't missed them. My only real complaint about the amp is it's size. I don't need a 65 watt amp. I could easily do with 25 or 30, but I couldn't get the multi-channel/multi-EQ features in a smaller Crate.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I couldn't decide between a Vox Valvetronix AD50VT or a Roland Cube 60, but then I tried the Crate FW65 and it blew them both away (in terms of sound quality). The only downside of this amp is that it doesn't have any modelling types, like the Valvetronix and the Cube amps have. I was able to look past that though, because this amp will sound much much better. The effects are pretty good, but not amazing. The footswitch included is very handy, enables switching between the 3 channels and change the effects. Overall this is an excellent amp for practice, jamming, or maybe even small gigs.

This is just awesome I'm very glad I bought it, I would recommend it for anyone who is just starting a band with a genre from rock to death metal.
The effects were my only concern, it's hard to explain but they just aren't the best effects.

I have had this thing for over a a year now. I love it. There are a some downsides though. 1 Needs more diverse FX range isnt that great. 2 the high gain channel is tweaked way bad. volume all the way down and I still get noise turn up the gain and its just like boom here I am it goes realy realy loud and the Clean channel kinda cuts out when I turn the volume up. Other than that its a great amp. So maybe I got a lemon kinda thing. Dunno overall great amp.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I wanted a small and inexpensive amp to keep at home, and saw the great price for this re-stock. I came in great shape, but the sound wasn't what I had hoped at all.

This would be better for someone who plays high gain metal music. I did everything I could to adjust the dials but could never get a gutsy, blues tone. It has a very good clean channel, the distortion is good unless you really want to play real blues.

I sent it back and ordered a little Fender Mustang instead. I've played on them and they do have the sounds that I'm looking for, plus a lot more.

When I first went to band practice with this thing I was blown away by the volume of it!!!! It got louder than the other guitarists 160 watt. The distortion channels are great, the only downside is that you get a lot of feedback at high volumes if u dont keep your hands on the strings, but it's no big deal... GREAT PIECE!!!

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

All the other guitar players that I've played with in a band (about 3) all use combo amps with two speakers, and the Crate Flexwave 65 that I use can easily match up and equilize with the band wether I'm playing lead or rhythm, I've never had to turn the volume above 3/4 on any channel. I played a gig for 400 people with this amp and it had plenty of volume to spare. The amp sounds really good on every channel, it's hard to get a pathetic sound out of it. There are a few things I don't like about it starting with the effects, the reverb is great, the other effects are ok, not the best, If you're looking for sweet effects try the Line 6 Spider series of combos. The website for the Crate will boast something like "18 built-in DSP effects" When it's more like 6 with different levels. The buttons on the amp that switch channels are a little flimsy, and there is a wire in the back where you stow your stuff, where it could ruin your amp if you accidentally broke it. Other than that, great combo amp!

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW65 65W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp has a knob on it that I haven't seen on other amps. This knob is called: "shape" I don't what the amp goes through when you turn it, but when you do, it makes your metal sounds very powerful, I'll explain. Without the knob engaged you get a regular metal sound but when you turn the shape knob it makes the palm muted "chunks" really deep and crunchy, power chords scream forever and solo's sound like you playing from a mesa boogie dual rectifier! great tone I wish they had the shape knob on the 15 watt version of this amp. As for clean sounds it did the job okay I guess (I'm mostly a metal player), when slightly overdriven it sounded pretty good too. I'm saving up for this!

I enjoyed everything about this amp except for the high gain channel, it just doesn't have the flexibility that the marshall half stack I also own does. Perfect for anyone who loves clean sounds. Also has great effects, the delay and reverb are supurb.
