This is my first, and current amp. I bought this about two years ago, and I was pretty damn pleased for it.The only things I have against it is the whole footswitch thing sucked. The wires they gave me went to hell within a year, as did the footswitch. The channel selection input kept falling into the box, and now I can't get the thing to work, with the input in place. It only gives me the choice of clean, and gain one. The gain 2 channel doesn't sound bad, providing a nice, smooth tone. The gain 2 channel has a nice, constant... buzz. And that sucks, but I live with it. Gain one is nice and crunchy, and I can get a decent blues sound out of it, among other sounds. Cleans nice and smooth too, and can get really loud... heh. The only other small complaint I have is the effects... eh. They don't really do it for me. The Rotatary speaker is pretty cool, but that was really it. All in all, a decent amp, especially for the price. I've recommended it to friends... but they never bought it... heh.

I've had this amp for about a year or so. I've been using it on occasion with a large variety dance band, miking the amp through the main sound system for better coverage. Overall, this amp is totally inadequate for my use. The tone variations are limited, when I try to play something with a jazz feel there's pretty much nothing there. (no, it's NOT my playing!) :-) Even with the amp amplified, the rock and funk doesn't have any presence. Overall, for lack of a better word, a 'wimpy' sound. It's features are kind of nice in theory (built in tuner, effects, 2 distortion/overdrives). I was hoping to have a small amp with a good sound. What I ended up with is a small amp . . . For a practice amp I think it's probably ok, but as a practical performance amplifier, useless, at least in my type of application.

Absolute must buy

By Brian HIll

from San Diego California

I'm just beginning how to learn the guitar. I looked at Fenders, Marshals, and then I looked at crates. I saw this crate and immediately it was the amp for me. With all its awesome effects it was the perfect amp for me and every other beginner or better. It absolutely rocks!!! Buy this amp, its worth every penny!

Pretty ok amp with a lot of things gone wrong

The Crate FXT65 Combo is'nt a bad amp but trust me it isnt the best either. Theres a lot of very frusterating things about this amp like it's effects are extremly crappy for example both wahs pierce your ears whith this unearthly sound the the octives tone is cruddy and if you have a grunge pedal and you put on the reverb all you hear is feedback and fuzz. Plus the effects made my amp 2 times louder. Also, the second distortian makes a lot of feed back and the pedal is a piece of junk. But there are some good things about this amp first of all the clean channel sounds good and if you have a few pedals to beef the amp up it sounds fine. Also, the amp is pretty loud for its size.

Awesome Amp! When I went shopping for a new amp, i tried out marshalls, fenders, vox, behringer, and everything else you could imagine. Once I found this baby, I was sold. It wasn't the effects that sold me, but the distortion channel was perfect. Nothing else compared to this amp. And it wasn't expensive.

sweet amp but a couple problems

By play POSTAL 2, you'll like it, I guarantee it

from the steaming remains of Youngstown, OH

This is a really good amp, with great low to medium distorion, some great effects, and the equilizer and INCLUDED footswitch are really nice, but a couple things that I don't like are the fact that there ISN'T A HEADPHONE JACK!! this sucks for me because my mom's office is right below me, so I have to have it turned down so much on the hair-trigger volume knobs so that it's barely audible. Another pretty big problem is that on either wah effect, be prepared for random very loud squeals, I don't know it this does that, I don't do anything different. But besides those 2 things I would give 2 thumbs up.

Puts Marshall To Shame

By badhorsie23

from pittsburgh pa

I bought this amp to practice with, but it ends up this amp can put on a full concert. I play it together with a les paul,sg,and a fender american hss stratocaster. the only bad thing about this amp is the effects they suck but effects arent really important I compared this thing to a marshall solid state half stack and it put it to shame. BUY THIS AMP

beginner amp

By Metalhead-P8B0C

Do not get this amp for the distortion. The built in distortion is not very good.I highly recommend buying a metalzone or deathmetal pedal. The other thing is the feedback...horrible feedback when you crank up the distortion. Pretty good amp for clean playing. I wouldnt recommend using the effects either because they suck. Price is okay also for this amp. Ive had it for about 8 months and am now trying to find a better amp. Not a good amp for playing loud.

Crate--Great little amp

By Tom T.-8liZi

from Temecula, California

I've owned Marshalls,Fenders,Musicmans,Rolands and Yamahas; but the Crate FXT65 is the best practice amp I have ever owned.Huge fat crunchy sound to nice and clean and everything in between. Lots of real great useable effects too. A super great amp, and i'm really glad I purchased it.

After running it thru the mill

By Bob-xOK7g

from Slaton, TX

After having a smaller tube amp I was skeptical about how the Crate would sound. But I needed more power and didn't have a boat-load of money to spend. After running it thru the mill I was very pleased. It has more bottom end than my tube amp had. This amp should do any gig in a small auditoruim with no problem. Distortion is very good for solid state providing you set up the tone correctly. Clean channel is pristene! Makes all my guitars come thru with all their unique tonal qualities and this includes Teles, Strats and humbuckers. The two distortions are nice and the Shape control on super distortion mode is beautiful. If you have a compressor/sustainer tube sound is even more attainable. Effects range in quality from good to not so hot. The wahs are the worst, The rest are pretty decent. Patching them up with reverb is not what I would have done. The amp would have been better with a separate reverb, but for the money I don't see how this amp can be beat.

This amp is perfect. Effects are great, anyone would be happy with them. Plenty loud enough, good quality sound, I highly recommend this product.

Best amp ever for two years

By lespualguitarman13

from Eagle, Colorado

I have had this abp for two years and I love it. The level button on my guitar is really sensitive and I advise this for everyone that has this amp. There is no headphone jack but a stereo output. The have and epiphone With p 90s and this amp makes it sound so good. You'll definately have a good time if you get this awsome amp.

Decent amp

I blew up my Gibson tube amp and needed something to plug into. Clean is where I play most as a rythym player. I compared many amps for a few weeks before ordering this one and it was the clearest when played loud box I could find without having to buy a stack. Reasonably sized and the effects are cool. Easy on the wallet. No problems with it. My Gibson ES325 makes it sound good.

Awesome Amp

By Great in My Garage!

from Redmond, OR

See all my reviews

I've played for 20 years, and this is the best little amp I've owned (and I've had a few). The tone from the clean channel is great, the distortion channel has plenty of adjustments to play with, and I still haven't figured out all of the DSP effects. It's load enough to fill a large area and keep up with 1/2 stack-bass amps. It's lightweight, and the tuner function is handy for on the fly tuning.

Not bad for the $$$$

By Semi-hollowbody

from Michigander

Not too bad...unlike its horrible 30 watt little brother...has a very useful effect loop, 3 way eq for clean and overdrive channel...2nd overdrive channel is USELESS unless you dial the gain way down (horrible hiss and feedback) Great selection of effects...a speaker upgrade wouldn?t hurt... Not a bad buy at all for the money...comes with a handy footswitch... An external eq pedal placed within the amps effect loop really gets this amp sounding nice...

A wonderful machine

Alrighty I bought this amp as my first amp a while ago and it has never failed me once I love the foot switcher peadle thingy. I've played this at my church many times and throughout all of the going back and forth and getting banged around it is still as good as new. I use this amp for all styles of music with an epiphone g-400 and it soundes wonderful. I have no complaints about this I just need to get a good processor and i'll be ready to go for a long time

I have owned this amp for about a year now and absolutely love it. I tiake it with me every where I play. The only thing is it hums on the heavy distortion channel, but thats mainly from the active humbuckers in my ESP. Highly recommend this amp. Best amp you will find for the price!!!

Crate ROX!

By Yeadbanger

from Festus, MO

See all my reviews

This was my first Crate amp. I had heard them and heard about them, so I just had to have one. This thing is INCREDIBLE! The clean is a Little fuzzy, but not that bad. It's still clean, and you can't hear the slight fuzz unless you strain your ears to find it. Then the distortion is ok, but what is best is the solo channel distortion. Hit the foot switch to make the red and yellow lights come on, and THAT is where you need to be. The regular overdrive is ok, but I personally think that you need it on the solo channel to get the right distortion out of it. GREAT amp! I love everything about it. Also, my favorite feature is the speaker jack. I can plug this badboy into my 4/12 cabinet to unleash it's full potential. I LOVE Crate, and I know you will, too. Go out and buy one! Also, Crate was originated right here in STL, so if there's anyone from Missouri out there, you'll be supporting your own state when you buy one of these beasts. BUY IT! You won't regret it!
