This is my first Crate amp, I have heard good and bad things about Crate. My amp collection is Fender vintage Fender Twin Rever Delux, Fender Hod Rod Delux, and a cheap Fender FM212R. The twin and hot rod are all tubes. First of all I have to tell you that this is a great amp for the money. I'm not going to tell you that the clean is as good as my Fender Twin or hot rod because it's not. However, the clean is good enough and this amp was half the cost of my Fender. I seem to be saying whay many other have said on here. I'm some what dissappointed in the loudness. This amp just doesn't shake your balls like I expected it to do. Nevertheless, with some foot pedals you can get the sound up to a nice level. The ability to have lights on showing you the control knobs in the dark is great. The tuner, three channels, and a great looking amp makes this a winner. I didn't need the special effects because I use all pedals. For you that don't have pedals, you can get some pretty good sound out of the built in ones. I will end this to say. I've played guitar since 1965. Having played so many years I can say that I have learned much. For example. My guitars are all vintage. Gibson Les Paul, American Fender Strat, American Tele, an Ibanez semi hollow body.I wanted a half stack because I had never had one but didn't want to pay a fortune. This GLX1200H with the 4X12 cabinet IS WELL WORTH YOU TRYING IT OUT. You will never get a bettr deal than this one.

I like the idea of being able to set up three distinctly different sounds - that's what led me to this amp. However, after using it for a year, I cannot recommend using this as your primary amp - especially if you play a lot of gigs! The first time I tried, channel switching buttons fell off and the on-board effects processor went nuts (gave a sound like a cap about to burst). I had it repaired and returned to my Mesa for gigs. I gave it another chance this past weekend - BIG MISTAKE! Fortunately, I had the old standby...

I own 12 amps including old Fenders and Marshalls plus some odd balls. When I saw this on a close out I gave it a try on a whim. This is now the amp I take out of the house to practice and when I play a split bill and do not want to risk the expensive stuff for a short night. You will however need to drive 4 ohms to get good volume for heavy music or big clubs. I love the flexibility of the channels and the effects. I have found that this amp does work better with humbuckers and certain modeling pedals do not work well with this amp(??). Overall VERY pleased and the comments have all been positive when I bring this amp to practice or gigs.
Simply put if you want to look like a guitar player get a Marshall. If you want to sound good get a Crate. This is the perfect working man's amp. If all you want is clean/crunch/lead you won't find a better amp.
Great for small venues! My only negetive feedback is...No direct out...It's promoted having three channels, but that's utilizing one input...I could do without the red pimp lights, however they do help to see your adjustment during a gig. But, for my small venue needs this amp with the 4-12 Cabinet is perfect. Clean sound, light weight, great price. I reccomend it!
This is really the best head for the price. A day before I got this I played a Marshall haft stack and it didn
This amp Rocks!! I have used crate for years and i went out to purchase a new half stack and i started with heads and after playing through some marshalls and even a mesa boogie triple rectifier this head outshined them all..i gave it a week and did some hard core jammin with my band , and it was nothin but smiles and thumbs up. Great distortion, great clean and effects and like a boogie, a 3rd channel for high gain solo punches when you have 2 guitarists in the band. Not to mention the price and how sturdy the thing is...Awesome! I would recommend to everyone. and yes we gig shows and theaters twice a week its just that good.
This head is great for the studio or garage-well rounded features and great tones! Even some of the digital effects are usable- in moderation! I?m using it with a Crate 8ohm 412 cab, so I?m only getting 60 watts out of it, but it still has enough balls to jam with a full band! I probably would leave the gigging up to my Blue VooDoo, but this amp is great for home/studio use and a worthy back up! Sure, all the lights are a little cheesy, but they do have an on/off switch. Can?t beat it for the price! This is my 3rd CRATE amp-probably not my last!!
The reviews on this head are so conflicting - it's crazy. This amp head is rated 120 watts into 4 Ohms! If you're using an 8 Ohm speaker cabinet, than you'll get 60 watts - Fact. If your buddy is using a 100 watt tube head - then he's going to blow you away because tube amps produce much more power than solid state at the same wattage. This amp is great for small venues and recording. If you'll playing arenas, get bigger stacks, etc. I'm using it with a single 65 watt 8 Ohm Line 6 speaker cabinet and it sounds wonderful. Great electronic/digital reverb (the best I've heard - better then some spring reverbs). Very well thought out digital effects and 3 channels. Excellent Crate quality - it will outlast me. 'nough said!
This amp is only OK. While pushing this thing to compete with previous Crate models rated at less power, you could see the "pimp lights" fading out with each power chord. This just doesn't feel like 120W. I picked this up in a combo with one of the crate stereo-capable cabs... I returned them within a week and went with a B-52 AT100 halfstack. I'm more than happy now.Distortion and DSP are OK but why bother with anything on a solid-state head but your pedalboard assortment thru the clean channel. In short, if you want something to play in your house in the burbs AND you get a good deal on it, get this. If you plan to play it very loud, keep shopping.
I can't even begin to vent about the quallity of these amps. Me and my other guitarist borrowed a pair of these for a show and they were awful. Go with a Line 6 Spider III or even II if you can.
Awful amp. Clean is way too awkward sounding no tone vibe. Distortion is the worst part. Chunky cheap cheesy worthless sound. Dont fall for it. Cant do anything with this amp.
