When I plugged in my Ibanez RG350 into a FXT30, cranked up the gain and the shape knob, I knew I had the sound I wanted. But the GLX30 is much better than the FXT30 and so I returned the FXT30 and found a GLX30 for $***. What a steal! Anyway, my glx30 is made in the good old USA and sounds awesome. The clean channel is ok. Its not the best. Treble is cranked all the way up but still does not sound good enouhg. but the solo channel with the shape and gain cranked all the way up is just unbelievable. I've had this amp for almost a year and last month I tried playing on a $1000 mesa boogie and it sounds the same as my crate ! Talk about exact tube-simulation. This is well worth the money. My only gripe is that it does not have an effects loop and the DSP channel tracking which are found in a GLX65 and FXT65. Hence, I am gonna buy one of those two. but this amp sure beats the hell out of that Roland 30W and a Marshall. And crate tech support is so quick with responses. They replied even on a Saturday night! Get it !! You wont regret it.

I bought this amp on Aug 5th, 2004 along with a Fender Strat Deluxe HH at a music store. The amp was great in the store! I figured it could blow me away at the store so it?s a great amp, I should have asked to take it in a room to crank it up! This amp has some power, but not enough in clean to run an external pedal; not smooth enough distortion when cranked in the Solo Channel. My HH Strat has a lot of tone and low and mid range to it, so when you crank the clean channel it?s not clean at all! Although I have played many guitars through the amp they all distort the same way! The ?Flexwave 5? kicks in and it distorts when you want super clean with all that volume! I have found a use for that distortion though, putting a big enough book in front of the speaker quiets it down and it creates a very nice chunky overdrive. As for the Solo Channel it?s not so bad, you just don?t want to turn it past 4/10 or it just doesn?t sound right it, it?s as if it all ?runs together.? As for the FX, it?s not so bad as long as when you use the distortion channel, the Gain isn?t full on or the FX go crazy, such as the Touch Wah screams a high pitch so annoying that you just hate to use it! If your in a band and don?t have a hard hitting drummer and second guitarist with a louder amp than you, than this will be alright for you but if I had to do it all over again with the same money I?d pick the same guitar but a Rouge RG120.

Its ok

I got this amp a couple months ago and its ok if you have a pedal I have a Digitech Rp 250 (very Sweet) and I like to mix my pedal effects with the amp effects and it sounds great but the solo mode is terrible. If you don?t have a pedal or don?t want to buy one don?t buy this amp. Also the knobs are very sensitive.

Big Blue from D-Bar

By Lawrence-PrxEq

I've had this amp for abot two years now and it has endured all the crap i put it through like dropping it and extreme heat- i.e. sitting in my garage. To tell the truth this amp is everything that i wanted, even though i had to wait like 4 months to get it. The digital effects are great, even though it still doesn't beat individual pedals. Nevertheless, all i can really say is if you treat this amp good or even occasionally bad it will endure.

Good starter amp

I've had this amp for a few years now, and it still works as well as the first day. The clean is very nice in lower volumes, but it gets distorted after about 75% power. The distortion has no tone, and the gain is not too great for most metal and rock. It can serve as a good overdrive, however. I have a boss mt-2 metal zone distortion pedal, which sounds amazing in a small room at about 25% clean. you could possibly do band practices with it, but it will not sound perfect. Definitely not useable for a show, however. The fx are not terrible, I use the tremolo effect once in a while, and also that crazy alien sound, just for fun. Good starter amp that will last you at least 5 years, if you really want it that long.

Nice Starter Amp

By Ashley-ZHlJX

from Ann Arbor, MI

I got this amp from Guitar Center and I've had it almost two years now. I really like how it sounds when it's on clean, as long as the volume is turned down low. I wasn't very happy with the built in distortion. I strongly reccomend buying a distortion pedal for this amp. I have the Boss Metal Zone and it makes this amp sound so much better. Just don't use the distortion channel and distortion pedal at the same time or it won't sound the greatest. I also wasn't very pleased with the effects, especially the wah's. I did like the delay and flange effects though. I really liked this amp when I first got it but I am now going buy a Marshall half stack. This amp is good for starters and individual practice but is not loud enough for a band. This is a good first amp.

I Hate It!

By oskystud4240

I got this amp about 4 months ago, and was excited about getting my new amp. After getting it and playing on it the solo mode is terrible. I can't even use my distortion pedal on it, it still sounds like crap. The clean mode is very good though, thats the only time I'll use it is if I'm playing a clean song. If you're into rock/metal this isn't the amp for you.

This is a relly good little amp. It has tons of power. It got me thorugh a school talent show, even kept up with the drums. I like the effects not as good as a pedal. A little expensive for its size. I would recommend it.

Not bad, not great

I bought this amp, as my first amp. It's not bad for a starter amp. It sounds alright. The distortion (if you wanna call it that) on this amp is terrible! It's paper-thin, and has no tone. Also, when you crank the gain over 5, you can't hear anything over the noise. Having said that, get yourself a solid overdrive or distortion pedal, and this amp sounds pretty decent. The effects are good, although I wish I could adjust them. Overall, solid amp if you have a pedal (I have the BOSS OD-3, sounds very good with a Les Paul), and the clean channel is good. I haven't cranked the volume up yet, altough I heard it overdrives at like 75%. Still, a good amp for practice and rehearsal.

sound should have been much better

yeah, first few months i've played this amp i was really impressed with because it had tons of effects. And also cause it was my first amp. But when i play a Kustom amp at my guitar teacher's place it sounds way better and costs way less. Crate charged for the effects but the sound has been compromised.

Great amp, but for the price...

By Dr. Jonze

from Oak Park, IL

This amp can get really loud for just 30 watts. The clean channel is really great, and the solo channel is fun to mess around with (although a little too "gainy"). But the effects on the amp get tiring after a while. After playing guitar for about 2 yrs. with this amp, I realized that the best features of the amp is how sturdy it is and how loud it can get (enough for a jam session). But it's a pricey amp.

Look for a GT

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Okay, first off, I do not own this exact model, I own a Crate GT-30, which has the exact same speaker in the amp, it effectively has all of the effects on the dsp, the only difference being you have to take two seconds to adjust the chorus and reverb(note, almost all of the effects of the dsp on the GLX are just simply that, a mix of chorus and reverb, personally I prefer this model because you can mix the reverb and chorus to the exact level you want, not just none, soft, medium, or loud). As stated by others the solo channel is bad over about volume level 6(out of 10). The clean is very nice, doesn't distort until about 7 or 8. The GT comes with a 2-way footswitch for clean/solo, and some other feature I haven't quite figured out what it does, oh well(the GLX comes with a 3-way, actually works with dsp, my friend owns the GLX 30).

well ive had this one for 2 years maybe and it still works basically as well as it always did. i use it for a hard rock/punk band and also as my main amp. the distortion has bad tone but it sounds decent at halfway volume and lower with my boss metal zone distortion pedal. if you higher it sounds like crap esp. on clean, but still is a decent amp that wont break down on you.

Great Amp for a low budget!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

My Crate amp is a bit different than this one, but still basically the same. The only difference is that the CRATE symbol is on the bottom in bigger letters and my control knobs are on the top, (weird location for knobs in my opinion). Now let's talk about this amp, first off it has plenty of distortion and is great for the old 80's rock or any other type of rock! The special effects is great and you can move the effects knob up or down to determine how much effect it has! Many kinds of effects are on this such as blue voodoo, Touch wah, acoustic, flanger, and much more! Now you should know that it's not as good as a pedal, but it still works good! It is also pretty loud for 30 watts! It's also got a nice clean tone when on acoustic! Overall this is a great amp and it can do almost any effect possible! I don't know about this amp, but on mine you can mix different effects together! Go buy this amp, besides wattage, you can't get a better quality amp!

Power in a Small Package

This is a great little amp for home, studio, or small venues. The clean channel is super, and the lead channel is raunchy and loud. This is not a modeling amp, but you can get an incredible range of tones out this thing. The effects are somewhat limited, but I use effects processors anyway, so who cares.

Good practice amp

By Mr. Scary-0TGrV

from Colorado

I have had this amp for about 4 years and its a pretty good little amp. I like the DSP features which are nice to have. The clean channel is decent and the solo channel is decent as well. The "pros" of this amp are its size, the built in tuner, and its ability to be portable. The "cons" are this amp dosent get very loud. Its great for having at home practicing by yourself but anything with a decent drummer, etc... it just dosent have the guts to comepete. I recently took this to band practice to see how it would do and at 3/4 level it strated to cut out. All in all I think everyone should have a amp like this because of its features and portability but if you are wanting a good amp that you can gig with, save the flow and get a tube amp.
