I read reviews and hear about how its not loud enough, or it sounds muddy..the problem is these guitarists who seem to think that any amp should sound like Dimebag right out of the box. Yes, the cab doesnt handle the full brunt of the head, so you need a more powerful cab to get the full punch of this amp. And, its called EQ for everyone who claims its too muddy, use it. I swapped the cab for a Behringer 4x12 and this thing ROARS ! I do not use the onboard distortion, I do agree the rhythm channel is a bit weak but I use a Toneworks AX100G for my front end anyways, and I love this amp ! Don't be put off by the negative comments, its not a Mesa so dont expect it to sound like one. Buy it, but just use an outboard eq cus the three channel EQ on it isn't sufficient. I turn this up to three or four and I'm shaking floors with it. It does the deed for me and I have never had any problems with it at all. Crates are bulletproof and for the money this thing crushes all others in its $$ range, hands down and horns up.

I'm sure most people who buy this amp want to look cool with a stack but doon't have the money to by a real one. The look isn't worth it if the amp blows.I had a fender cyberchamp which was a good amp but it was not loud enough so I decided to look for a louder amp. At the time I did not have a lot of money so this amp was the obvious choice. When I went and looked at it I played it on low volume and it sounded mediocre so I bought it. I bought the cabinet and the head. I brought it home and realized it was a piece of crap. This price is way too good to be true. Crate used to make good amps until they were bought by Loud Technologies. All there products are terribly manufactured now. This is the quietest stack I have ever heard. On top of that the sound is extremely processed. Not natural at all. It sounds like MIDI guitar. I returned it right away and purchased a fender deville 4x10. Best choice I have ever made. The deville blows this stack away. It is at least 4-5 times louder and it is a third of the size. Plus you don't have to look like an idiot hauling around a huge amp that doesn't perform. In addition, the reverb didn't work at all.I returned it and purchased a fender deville 4x10.

This amp is awsome!

By cooldude94

Im a muscician on a tight budget who plays in a band. This is a very flexible amp that can be used for many styles. The clean channel is just your basic clean channel. Sounds great especially with a quality overdrive usaed over it. The rythm channel is not nessacirily a rythm channel. Sounds great for classic rock and blues. You can solo with it to. The lead channel gets plenty of gain and the shape knob is awsome. Sounds great for mettalica style stuff.

Not bad at all...

I've played this half stack combo in about 35 gigs. The guys who say it doesn't pack the volume play too much space with not enough cab. I can honestly say that I've never had the slightest problem with the combo. It delivers throughout the entire EQ range and will give even more if you don't mind blowing a speaker every now and then.In my opinion, this is a great combo for those on a budget (i.e.,kids, fiancee, or otherwise...). Definitely not a bad buy.

Don't Waste Your Money

By PF-cWLw8

Ok. This amp is completely worthless. I bought this amp and a marshall avt cab, and it was completely worthless. At no time was the amp able to rise above the drums, let alone the bass. Not to mention to get it up to the correct volume (which wasnt even loud enough) you had to throw up the gain and the volume nob to ten. So in turn the amp began to sound like. I would recommend not buying this amp. It is useless. I ended up buying a Mesa Dual Rectifier. Alot more money, but i havent had to buy a guitar an amp or a cab since because of the amazing sound and versatility the dual rect. comes with. DO NOT PURCHASE THE CRATE GT1200 HEAD OR CAB AT ANY COSTS!

Sounds good but not loud enough

By Anonymous

Whoa ok first things first I've had this amp for about a year now,the distortion on this thing is really good but the only problem is that when im playing in my band i can hardly hear myself. This really pisses me off when i go to do a solo and i cant hear it. Another thing is that the crate amp (not sure what its called) with the two 12s speakers in it blows this gt1200h out of the water.

Bad sound, and not great for price

By JamMan420

from Baltimore Maryland

I bought this amp because I thought it would be very loud and I could use it for my band...The distortion sounds ok, but not great. The clean channel sounds like crap and I found out that my friend's 50watt line 6 amp overpowered my crate half stack. I do not reccommend this amp at all..instead I would go for a small fender or vox tube amp.

Horrible

By Frankie G-81yRk

I don't know how you some many people think this amp is great. It's without a doubt one of the worst amps ever made...I'm just lost on how they can right these reviews saying the amp owns...Either these people have never heard a real amp with good tone or these people are being payed to write good reviews to sell the amps..

Just to clear some things up,

By Anonymous

I have played on this amp and it is decent at best. The distortion is okay, but not much to my liking. However, the clean channel sounds very nice, so this amp + distortion pedal[metal zone(boss) or metal master(digitech)] = good sound. Now on to the topic of this review. I have noticed people talking about the fact that the head puts out 120 w @ 4 ohms impedance, yet the cab is wired to 8 ohms. This does indeed lower the power output of the amplifier to approximately 50%. This is a good thing, this way you can't drive the speakers to hard to the point of massive distortion(not the good kind guys). And despite the 50% power reduction you only lose about 3 db anyways. If you want to get the full potential out of this amp, you need an extra cab or a 4 ohm impedance cab with a minimum power handling of 120w. Otherwise you risk blowing a speaker.Overall I believe that this is a great deal on a first half stack or practice amp, not for the experienced players though, although I do personally like it. Just be prepared to buy a distortion pedal to get good sound out of it.

Absolutely Phenomenal

By ExE

from Garden City, MI

I've purchased this half stack setup recently and find it to be exceptionally good for the money. You can really blow windows out with this beast. The solo channel is exactly what I was in need of, and the rhythm channel can be adjusted to your liking...its perfect. Regardless of the quality of guitar your playing, it will make it sound a million times better. The speakers are quite nice considering they aren't "name" brand. Any kid that receives this as a present should mark themselves quite lucky. It's an extremely good value for what the price is, especially since this website makes it very cheap and easy to obtain.
