i've been looking for a new amp for several months. i've played marshalls, line 6, peavey, and then i saw this one online. i never really liked crate, but when i went to a local guitar shop and tried this amp out...oh man was i surprised. this thing has the best clean sound i have ever heard, better than most tube amps, and i have been playing for over 20 years and have played fender bassmans, vox valvetronix and many more. the amp has 3 very easily customizable channels, the distorted one is excellent as far as amp disortion goes. the rythm one can be either distorted or clean which is good. the effects bank has dozens of easy to switch to effects but using the footswitch to turn them on and off is difficult (keep in mind i dont own this amp, so i dont know how to use it perfectly yet) this is one of the best amps i have ever played, better than a marshall JCM that i've used which costs about 40 times as much. all in all if your looking for an excellent clean and distorted tone, a vintage look, and the ablity to use some effects, this is the perfect amp. buy it. i definately am going to.

Bought the amp in September 08. Dsp board died 4 months after. Amp has now been in shop THE ENTIRE TIME since. (6 months total) Crate has sent somewhere between 8-15 new dsp boards. ALL defective. Crate cannot find replacement amp due to amp being discontinued or any working dsp boards. I'm stuck with no amp that I paid a lot of $ for. Which Crate will be refunding shortly. If you don't want a head ache, get a marshall or vox, stay away from crate amps. But if you do want a serious head ache, definitely get this amp, it will be sure to cause you never ending grief. But hey, as a positive note, when the amp DID work, it was an amazing sounding amp, compares to tube amps that cost twice as much.

    Issues after issues

Well amp is going in for yet MORE repairs, Bought new in September 2008 w/5yr warranty. Volume started cutting out at random intervals along with foot switch not working after getting amp back from 6+ months of previous warranty covered repairs. (see previous reviews - to make a long story short, DPS board failed, crate spent 6 months trying to find a replacement board/amp). Really whats the use of a 5 year warranty when the amp is in for warranty repairs longer then it's used altogether.

    VERY Loud Ok Amp

    By Zeppelin1969

    from Gasport, NY

The 3 channels are nice, but having only 1 input sucks. The effects are all right, but not alot of variety. I recently bought a Big Muff Pi to go with it and it improves the distortion, but even with the pedal the tone is tough to dial in. My biggest problem is the footswitch. Either the cable or the input in the amp are bad so it's a real pain changing channels. I also can't find a replacement cord anywhere on line. Since it's discontinued at Musicians Friend, I think I'm out of luck. As my rating stated, the amp ia a 4, maybe 3.5, but I'm generous.

    Awesome Amp

    By SGMan-q_ABR

    from Chicago

This amp is astounding. When I was trying it out at the store, it sounded full and rich in tone. It has the warm sound of a tube amp with the grunt and roar of solid state. In my opinion it sounds better than the marshall MG100 halfstack. It sounds fuller than the AVT100 Vox and gets way better tone than fender amps. The clean channel can go from glassy to grunt and is very LOUD. The middle overdrive chanell sounds killer and packs a huge punch. Lastly the high gain channel sounds great if you know what your doing. This is the besst amp for the price and it wont let you down.

Great features & build! Sound and effects on all three channels is aesily adjusted. I don't think you can find a better purchase for the size, power, sound and price.

best deal I found for the $$

    By jimc

For the price, you get 200W RMS, 3 channels w/footswitch, great tone, tons of power and Celestion speakers. The cabs and speakers alone are worth the price. If you want more sound (and this amp is LOUD), you can add an external cabinet. Effects are OK, I use pedals most of the time. One complaint, occasionally on channel 3 I get some funky effect processed sound instead of the channel. Don't know why, happens rarely, not enough to take it back. As a bonus, it comes with wheels. The clean channel is rich (I play a Strat and a Les Paul, and it allows the tone of the guitar to come through nicely). The 2 channel is crunchy, and 3 is massive overdrive. I've fooled a couple of people into thinking it is a tube amp by the tone. Best value I've ever seen. In the store it outperformed Line 6 Spider, Marshall, even a Fende r Blues. Get it before they're gone, you won't regret it.

    I love this amp!

    By zeppelinfan1200

This is a great amp, especially for the price. It has a great clean channel, excellent crunch channel, and a great distortion channel for any metal player. The footswitch is amazing, no pause between switches at all. I play a Les Paul and is sounds wonderful on this amp. I would recommend it to anyone.
