OVERVIEW

Vintage vibe, cutting edge electronics.

The VTX212B features full 3-channel operation with independent Gain, Level and Tone shaping circuits. The DSP section has 15 Multi effects including Chorus, Flange, Phase Shift, Vibrato, Octave Down, Touch-Wah and Reverse Wah. Each of these can be set for depth, plus the Tap button on the front controls speed.

The VTX212B also has 15 Delays with adjustments for Single delay with 4 levels, Echo delay with 4 levels, Tape delay with 4 levels and Echo / Effects combo with 3 levels. Each of these effects can be set with the Tap button for speed as well. A separate Reverb control adds even more to the array of effects.

Front panel RCA CD Input jacks allow you to play along with your favorite CD or tape. The rear panel Insert Jack allows you to connect your own effects for greater flexibility. Channel switching and DSP may be controlled by means of a footswitch, which also allows access to two DSP presets on each of the three channels. The top-mounted electronic tuner lets you get tuned and stay in tune any time the amplifier is on.

You may change the DSP settings by rotating the DSP controls - these changes will remain active until a different channel is selected, but will not be there for later use unless they are saved. To save a new DSP preset to a channel, first make the desired DSP changes. Then press and hold the Save/Tap button for about three seconds. The Save/Tap LED will flash through three quick sequences, indicating the preset was saved. The new preset is stored for that channel and will remain in memory until a new preset is stored for that channel or the factory presets are restored. The Crate three-button footswitch supplied with the VTX65 allows access to an additional DSP preset for each channel of the amplifier. When the footswitch is connected to the amplifier as shown below, the "original" DSP presets are active for each channel when the #3 footswitch LED is illuminated. These are referred to as "DSP Bank 'A'." When the #3 button is switched and the LED is out, a second DSP preset may be stored and recalled for each channel - "DSP Bank 'B'."

The VTX212B combines great sounding analog with total control over the DSP section and with vintage styling. These amps were designed for the player who is into the vibe and styling of the V-Series, but wants a 3 channel analog amp with "tweakable" digital effects and the ability to program up to six effects in the three channels.

I got this amp a while ago and I had only played on little crappy practice amps before this one. I was at first surprised by how loud the volume goes, and also how high and low the tone was. The Distortion is amazing, it's really heavy, and it's really clear and articulate as well. The Overdrive section is pretty good, I don't really use it that much, but sometimes I'll put an effect or a delay on there and use it for a small special effect in a song. The clean section when using the neck pickup is very tonal, almost like an acoustic guitar. The DSP section is amazing and you never run out of combinations. There are only a few setbacks. This amp is really prone to hissing at high gain and high volume and that causes feedback, however my pickups are also somewhat to blame. It also does not have an output. I wanted to set up a monitor for band practice and the only thing on there is an extention speaker jack which mutes the main speaker so it's not really extending anything.

I bought the last V50112 you had and played it for a couple of hours first day and got on line and gave it a super review. Day two I started to play at a moderate volume, I'm 52 and can't take loud music anymore, so this an honest review, after playing for 15 minutes I heard a little scratchiness in the speaker, so I continued to play for about 2 more minutes when the scrachiness became as loud as my guitar, so, I guess I'm sending this baby back. You get what you pay for, a cheap amp made in China that will lay down on you right out of the shoot.

BEST AMP EVER!!!

I bought this amp in 2004. It's built in tuner makes tuning (even Eb, a snap). This amp has the most bottom end chunk for the dollar. I can play the most brown sound EVH with the gain at 1/2. If you go past that, you can get a nice Randy RHoads, or even George Lynch tone. I'm telling you, don't take my word..just try it. Set it to channel 3 and tweak the knobs. The effects are just ok. I leave mine set on slight delay and tons of reverb. I sold my 5150 (one trick pony and no sound versatility) after having tried every amp in a 60 mile area. On top of the fact that it's solid state (sounds tube) so no need to replace tubes, it also fits in my trunk of car and I can carry it in one hand to gig with guitar in the other. THIS AMP ROCKS!!!

VTX212B -- My Favorite Solid-State to Date

By JimRootTeleMan

from Spring Lake, NC

Great amp! Clean sound is amazing. The crunch and solo channels take a bit of tweaking, but I mainly keep it clean and rely on my pedal board for the different sounds I need.Speakers are wired in series, so plugging into a 4x12 actually runs your sound through all six speakers! A wall of sound, no doubt!DSP effects are OK, but I only use them from time-to-time -- my pedal board is usually sufficient for the sounds I need.Rock-solid construction. Wheel casters included. 3-button footswitch included. Great value!

Loud and Clear

By Scotty-AzzKn

The 120 watts really helps out with gigging, the tone is sweet almost tube like it comes so close... I would totally recommend this amp to anyone who doesn't want to spend a ton of money and get decent tube tone

Still Shocked

By Anonymous

Fate sort of lead me to this amp. When I first started playing guitar in 1981 "Crate" amps were considered to be cheap crappy amps, and so I never gave them a shot. Then as my amp buying progressed I learned about Tube amps, and once you have a tube amp you know nothing beats a tube amp. However with a tube amp you learn how temperamental and touchy they can be. Wouldn't it be nice if someone could make a transistor amp at least get close to tube amp tone? Well it's happened. It's not a tube amp but it is close enough! Plus much more reliable. You need to let the speakers break in so don't be disappointed when out of the box it sounds a little stiff. Give it about 10 hours of break in and you will be happy!

awsome amp!!

I just want to say that crate has really step up there game with there new amps. I own this amp and it is just awesome. I have been a marshall and peavey fan when it comes to amps most of my life. But I was out shopping for a new amp and came across this amp after playing several marshalls that day and when it was all said and done this amp had a better sound then the marshalls which blew me away!. Even the people in the store liked it better when I was playing through the crate the just simply said that the sound was a lot better I thought so to so I bought it. I also just recently bought the flex wave 4/12 half stack and it kicks some major but too. they are both rocking amps and I am very impressed with them. And the built in dsp effects are very cool and very easy to tweak to the sound that you prefer I highly recommend this amp you will not be disappointed.
