Let your guitar's natural tone come through, with a healthy serving of crunch and bloom.

The Danelectro Cool Cat CO-2 overdrive effect pedal adds a healthy dollop of color to your guitar tone with plenty of crunch and bloom. It's very responsive to touch as well as your guitar's volume and tone controls; while it's thicker than the Transparent Overdrive, your guitar's voice still comes through.

The Drive controls set the amount of overdrive from minimum (fully counter-clockwise) to maximum (fully clockwise). Higher settings have higher distortion, volume and low end bloom. The tone control adjusts the tone of the Drive, so you can find your tonal "sweet spot." Turn clockwise for brighter tones and counter clockwise for darker tones. Volume control adjusts the overall volume of the Danelectro Cool Cat pedal, with plenty of range to allow even low drive settings. This guitar pedal has lots of volume, so start with your amp and the volume control turned down. The true bypass footswitch engages and disengages the overdrive pedal.

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat CO-2 Overdrive V2 Guitar Effects Pedal:

Most people like to compare this to the OCD Overdrive, I don't own an OCD Overdrive but from the ones I have heard they are very similiar with the OCD having more gain and low end.

The pedal is built like a tank, basically indestructible. The Cool Cat is very simple to use with three knobs; volume, gain, tone. Honestly that's all you need. This is my most used pedal regardless. I use it for a light touch, where the guitar is mostly in the background. It doesn't overkill by any means.

I will say that I get a different sound out of it depending on which amp I use. I have a Traynor Custom Valve 20 tube amp and the Cool Cat doesn't have as much gain on this amp as it does on my Ibanez toneblaster halfstack solid state. Of course when using the tube amp I use the natural tube overdrive on the amp so it works great for another layer.

Not NEARLY as good as V1

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat CO-2 Overdrive V2 Guitar Effects Pedal:

V1 was awesome - a nearly exact clone of the OCD v1 (tonally, if not internally).

V2 falls far short of that tone. I tested this side-by-side with my V1 through an Acoustic B20 bass amp so I could hear a very full EQ range. I did NOT overdrive the bass amp, so I could truly hear the sound of the pedal unaffected by the amp itself. Some of my statement below may not be so applicable when playing through various guitar amps (which often narrow/change the freq range).

The V2 has far more low end, far less variation in tone adjustments via the bass/treb knobs, less output overall, and worst of all the OD character itself has changed. V1 had bite and ballz, crunchy and fizzy all at once (like an OCD). This just seems bland in a side-by-side comparison.

You CAN get similar tones/EQ to the V1, but it's harder to find them and they still aren't quite as good.

The internal trimpot isn't really that useful as it seems to be just another stage of resistance for the Gain knob. It may be helpful in allowing you to set your gain knob at noon and adjust the internal trimmer for your sound (which is useful in case your gain knob gets bumped and you need to quickly find "the sweet spot"). Otherwise, meh.

The internal lo-fi switch is really a high freq boost (or low cut). Turning it on gets you closer to the V1 tonality and gets you more volume and top end clarity. But the pedal still has a flabby low end, even then, unlike the tight end on the V1.

I bought one based on forum reviews saying you could get the "exact same" tones. Not true at all in my case. I think those folks may have been using overdriven guitar amps instead of very clean full-range amplification.

OR I could have gotten a "dude". that's always possible.

All this said, since I like my V1 really well with my tube amps, I'll keep this V2 for use with my ultra crispy solid state amps. It will likely match up with my Vox Pathfinder really well since that amp pushes the high freqs on it's own. Adding the V2 to the pedal chain should get a ballzy tone from the PF15.
