Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat Series CV-1 Vibe Guitar Effects Pedal:

I love this thing. It definitely has the vintage vibe. And the price is ridiculously low for how well this thing captures the past. The true bypass bit is nice, because vibes can be real tone suckers. To be sure, there is a volume jump when engaged and there is a delay before the effect kicks in, but these can be used as advantages. Just use the volume boost to frame transitions (if you don't leave it on all the time) and the delay time to get to another effect you intend to use (like your fuzz pedal). Finally, yeah, this thing is ugly and looks plastic (but it's not). I know I can put the cuts in another housing, but I think I will just live with the ugly. Highly recommended. If mine ever breaks, I will get another one for sure.

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat Series CV-1 Vibe Guitar Effects Pedal:

There is a slight volume boost and a momentary delay between switching the effect on and the audible effects of the effect. Both of these drawbacks are well documented and easily remedied.

Despite these minor drawbacks, this pedal sounds fabulous, especially for the price. I searched high and low, was even considering building my own based off of one of the many DIY designs but no demo of those came close to the authentic sounds coming from this cheap little Dano pedal. Sure there are some more expensive pedals that maybe do it a little better, but for nearly 2x~4x the price? Yeah, they aren't THAT much better. This pedal is a sleeper and if you rehouse it, I'm sure no one will question that it is some rare, high cost boutique pedal that they've never heard of.

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat Series CV-1 Vibe Guitar Effects Pedal:

Okay. If you research the Cool Cat Vibe online, you'll find that three main issues with this pedal are usually discussed: 1) A volume boost when the effect is engaged, 2) A 1-2 second delay in the effect occurring after the foot switch is pressed, and 3) Debate over whether the C.C.V. sounds like a real Univibe.

Here are my personal observations: Yes, there is a volume boost. Some people describe it as "slight" while others call it "massive". I would describe it as "moderate" and it personally does not bother me. Yes, there is a delay, which I have been told has to do with the internal lamp needing time to warm up before it produces a modulation effect.

Both issues can be fixed via mods that you can find online. I did the mod to solve the delay problem. It only requires one 10k resistor and about 10 minutes of labor. I haven't felt the need to perform the volume mod, but it is a little more involved.

Internally, I don't know how close the C.C.V. is to an original Univibe circuit. It does use a lamp and photocells like the Uni, however. Some people say that, sonically, it is a dead ringer for a Univibe while others have posted that it sounds nothing like one. To me, it sounds a great deal like a Univibe or any of the boutique vibes I've tried.

My advice is to find a store that carries the Cool Cat Vibe as well as one or more of the boutique jobs, such as the Sweet Sound Mega Vibe and Fulltone Deja Vibe Mini. Do a comparison for yourself and decide. If you are fanatical about getting the authentic tones on "Machine Gun" and "Bridge of Sighs" and you have 3 bills or more to spend, you'll probably ending buying one of the high end pedals-and I wouldn't blame you. However, most people are likely to be surprised by how close the sound of the Danelectro comes to those other vibe pedals. I am personally SHOCKED by how good this little guy sounds!

      Danelectro CV-1 Cool Cat vibe

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat Series CV-1 Vibe Guitar Effects Pedal:

I was looking for a reasonablely priced "Uni- Vibe" type effect, and I found it in the Danelectro "Cool Cat" Vibe. It has a thick, rich rotary type effect that I would put up against the most popular, and expensive effects of it's type on the market today. It has a heavy duty metal housing, and jacks as well as being true bypass. It's a solid unit that sounds awesome, and costs less than the others. What more can you ask for? Don't be afraid of the Danelectro "Cool Cat" line of effects. Well, the CV-1 anyway. It's a 10 out of 10!

Volume boost with a dash of vibe.

      By Eyon

      from Boise, Idaho

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat Series CV-1 Vibe Guitar Effects Pedal:

Like so many others, I purchased this pedal as an inexpensive alternative to high-priced vibrato effects. This pedal does exactly what it is intended for, whether it be a subtle swirl or an insane, almost unusable swoosh effect. If you use A/C power, which you should, the A/C connector has to fight for a spot to rest, but it is manageable. Mix, speed, and intensity knobs give you great control over the effect, and the pedal is very tough. As many have pointed out, the downsides to this pedal are: a very large, immediate volume boost when the effect is engaged (I can turn the volume on my Strat from 10 down to about 2 to compensate); and, there is a noticeable delay from the time the switch is engaged to the time that the effect is actually heard. With this in mind, I still own the pedal and still use it regularly, although if something happened to this one I can't say that I would replace it with another unless Dan'o comes out with a 2nd Gen Vibe that wipes out these problems.

      Beautiful vintage vibe

      By Tremaster

      from San Fransisco,CA

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat Series CV-1 Vibe Guitar Effects Pedal:

I got this pedal about two months ago and I love it. I play mostly rhythm guitar and sing so I've found that this pedal is perfect for adding some great, trippy, vintage sounds to some songs. It sounds great with lead guitar licks, as well as with chords, which is what I mostly use it for. Its very versatile and it can get any sort of sounds from very subtile vibrato to super ambient trippy sounds. It has killer tone and it really is true bypass. The metal casing and jacks are well constructed and durable. The only thing I can complain about with this pedal is the fact it gets crowded in the back when you have two jacks and an adaptor pugged in, but it is manageable and it is not a reason not to buy this pedal. This is kind of pointless, but the color is really cool as well. Overall, it can't be beat for thse price and it is a great pedal.

      Great value

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat Series CV-1 Vibe Guitar Effects Pedal:

Love this new pedal. I had always wanted a univibe but found they were way too expensive for me. From what I can tell, the CV-1 sounds as good as those other units and is much more affordable (under $60.00). Go grab this pedal and channel your inner Hendrix and Trower. Highly recommended.

You can FEEL the VIBE magic

      By Mike-6yzbA

      from Ohio

Comments about Danelectro Cool Cat Series CV-1 Vibe Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Cool can vibe consists of an intensity, speed and mix control. The Mix control is somewhat ambiguous, but the speed and intensity allow the user to dial up some real warmth and wave modulation into the signal. This vibe actual works and you can hear the various textures. I found it was quiet and had no pulses or hums, like other American made vibes. But this product is made in China, like all the Cool Cats. I use it with the Fab Echo, which really opens up the sound. I cannot get over the sound quality and cost ratio. The EHX Wiggler is almost 4 times the cost and it drains the tone from the rig and emits noise and pulse. The CC Vibe actually produces an aural wash that is effective. Use a power supply with the pedal. And place the pedal towards after a fuzz or overdrive, but in front of an echo or delay (Oh, remember the fab echo can be modded to be an inexpensive delay box). The mint green Vibe is pure accoustic vibratory extasy when coupled to a tube amp. I've packed the Wiggler back into it's dirty soiled box, I'll just keep it as a collectable, since it doesn't have the responsiveness of the Cool Cat. I don't know why American made products can't have this type of warmth and response? All the Danelectro CC's are effective, esspecially the Transparent OD, Fuzz and Vibe for psychodelic rock. The products do not alter the tone of the guitar and amp, such as the EHX products do. They are cost effective, and have metal enclosures. The only test left will be time? Will they last 10 to 29 years (like my 1980 MXR Dynacomp and Boss DS-1), who knows. But I'm impressed with the sounds of this Vibe, it is far more sound worthy than the Wiggler. Get it while it's 59 dollars, because I'm sure Mr. Inflation is watching and waiting to turn up the heat and raise the price. I can FEEL it.
