This pedal is a giant killer. As I've had the opportunity to try out other (higher priced) dirt boxes (particulary from boss and other danos), I've only grown to appreciate it more. By itself it doesn't provide a whole lot of low end, but It does pump out searing, cutting mid range and top end, and offers up great harmonics... great for blistering leads. This is definitely a metal pedal, not a grunge pedal, with a grit free, piercing distortion. With the gain rolled back you can also get very competant classic rock and 80's metal tones

It also plays well with other distortion pedals. For a heavier, chunkier, warmer sound, I put a cool cat metal I after it. For a grungier, dirtier, "jar of bees" sound, I put a cool cat fuzz v2 before it.

Overall, I highly recommend it.
It's got the basics... gain, level, and tone... no more... no less.
Yes, it does have a plastic case, but it's solid and the knobs although not particularly heavy duty, are decent quality. Overall, the build quality of the FAB series pedals seems better to my eyes, than that of the higher priced dano mini pedals.
This pedal would be a ridiculous bargain at twice the price.

You can't beat the price on these. I only use these for writing while I'm sitting aroud so I don't have to turn on my whole ProTools Rig. I own other Fab pedals & I intend to buy more of them. They seem pretty sturdy so they might hold up to the road, I can't comment on that. But for writing at home they're very nice!
As far as the idiot on Youtube that smashes one with a hammer, Grown up Dude! Any pedal is going to break.
All in All these are well worth it. Skip the 12 pack of Budwiser one night & buy one. You can't go wrong! I'm goning to buy more of the other Fab Padels as well.

Comments about Danelectro D-3 FAB Metal Effect Pedal:

First off, this was the first pedal I actually bought but I have tried tons of pedals before, just remember, it is not a boss or mxr so dont expect perfection, its great for smaller amps and boosts the volume amazingly, i have to keep my amp volume (ibanez ibz10g 10 watt) at 2 to keep from angering the roommates, it serves as a great buzz reducer too, if your pickups sound buzzy then this will help tremendously with preventing unwanted buzz, and finally it is very diverse, you can turn the dials up or down and find the tone you want most, mine is set really heavy with ernie ball sthb strings on a schecter with emg passive pickups and growls, dont hesitate to buy this if your on a budget, great backup if you have something better

      Ridiculously Great Value

Comments about Danelectro D-3 FAB Metal Effect Pedal:

A real giant killer. Great searing metal tone with lots of harmonics. Very competant classic rock/80's metal type tones.

The only significant limitation I'd mention is that there's not much in the way of bottom end with this pedal when used by itself.

      Highly Recommended in any case.
It's got the basics... Gain, Level, Tone... Enough to give a decent variety of useable tones.
Better than you could possbily expect at the pricepoint. It's plastic yes, but, it's solid and has fairly nice quality knobs. Unlike the dano mini's, you don't get the feeling that they'll come loose as soon as you mishandle the thing.

Strangely, the overall build quality of the FAB series seems better than that of the mini series, even though they cost roughly a third to half as much as the mini's. Why?... don't know... can't tell.
This pedal is a ridiculously fantastic value, and would be at twice the price... I'd give it a 12 if I could.

      works

Comments about Danelectro D-3 FAB Metal Effect Pedal:

They're selling this thing for 15 bucks now. It's worth it. The sound is weird and kind of bad. It really screws up the harmonic frequencies in a strange way. It's nearly impossible to get a usable tone out of it. I play metal/punk and this thing has more than enough gain, but the sound goes from either super-muffled to annoyingly fizzy. There's a bit of middle ground that's tolerable. I say this pedal is worth the price because the price is only 15 bucks now, and while it may not be a good pedal, it does sound VERY weird. So it's good if you want a strange, super-distorted tone for a small section of your song. I just love the strange, horrible sounds that come out of cheapo pedals.

Comments about Danelectro D-3 FAB Metal Effect Pedal:

I recently joined a progressive metal band and decided to try this pedal out as an alternative to my usual high gain tube sound. I haven't tried other "metal" pedals but I really think this is a great sounded pedal. I used it at practice the other day and it made a noticeable impact on the heavier/ nastier parts of our newest song. For an easy 15, it's definitely worth a try. You will most likely love it.
