I had to write this review as I've made a recent discovery. I bought this pedal about two years to give me some old style tremolo like "Suzie Q" and "Gimme Shelter". It did what I wanted. I have a late seventies Vibro Champ and it is similar. However, I got a new tube amp two months ago and had also bulit a new pedal board and rearranged the pedals. I was getting a noticeable noise just by turning on the amp which was making the drive channel disenchanting. I removed the tremolo pedal and noise gone. I still wanted a tremolo pedal and was looking online at different pedals, reading reviews, dreading maybe paying a lot more than I wanted. I finally came upon a review for a tremolo pedal where the owner said place the tremolo before your distortion /overdrive to eliminate noise. I put the Tuna melt third after my Boss tuner and my Cry Baby and problem solved. So now I'm going tuner, Cry Baby, Tuna Melt,Barber overdrive, chorus, MXR analog delay, amp and no problems. No noise. I still get a very slight volume increase when the pedal is engaged but it is something I can easily adjust with my guitar volume. So, save yourself a lot of money and go with this ,just watch where you place it in your chain

I bought this pedal new for about 35.00 bucks and now wished I'd paid a little more and gotten something a little more substantial. It's plastic canary yellow housing is pretty wimpy, kinda cool looking. The insides arn't much better as the inlet jack has broken with minimal use. As some of the other reviews have stated there is a slight cut in volume which needs to be accounted for when switched on. Another pain in the butt feature to the Danelectro mini pedals the whole base has to come off to get a 9V battery in. On the plus side you can get some decent trem sounds if you mess with it awhile. The trem on my multi-effects pedal does sound better though.

This is a great Tremolo pedal for the money. Its compact and very easy to use. my only con is the bright yellow color but I'm not a big fan of that color anyway. But it does its job and sounds great

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

I was looking for classic tremolo, and this unit delivers just that. I didn't want hiss or distortion added to the signal, and this device does not add either. The Tuna Melt uses optical tremolo, which is the best way to create analog tremolo without adding noise or other artifacts to the signal. For the price it's a great bargain. People note that the unit looks a bit fragile, but I'm using it in a home studio, so that's not a problem for me.

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

I've been playing for 30+ yrs. 13 of those years with Toby Keith. This is a great little pedal. Granted I use it at home and not on the road but that doesn't mean it's not a good pedal, cause it is. Honestly for the money is a great buy. Does everything a tremolo pedal should do. If I did have a complaint it would be that it is a little small. That's really not a problem though. If your looking for a good tremolo pedal that doesn't cost an arm and leg, this is it

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

The last Tuna Melt I owned lasted ten years. I play a lot of live venues and never had a bad experience with this pedal. Unfortunately I don't think the pedals are assembled as good as they once were. I've used Danelectro pedals for years and still use the Milk Shake Chorus pedal with my other higher priced pedals and it has held up well. The tones and versatility of the controls on all their effects pedals are as good as any higher priced pedals that I've used. But this time around it did take MF three times to get to me a pedal that actuality worked. No problem, I simply sent it back, no charge to me. I was glad to finally get one that worked, because the sound they give you is hard to beat.

Comments about Danelectro DJ-5 Tuna Melt Tremolo Pedal:

I have always liked Danelectro effects. I have the "Cool Cat"chorus, the Danecho, the Overdrive (which I seldom use because I play Marshalls, and NOW the "Tune Melt" Tremolo. This Tremolo is easy to configure with the ability to select the depth of the effect, the rate, and the mix with straight tone. Very very clean sounds and bypass. You can't beat it's performance by paying more . The expensive effects throw in stuff I would never need, or want to use. My idea of a good effect, does what it's supposed to do, VERY WELL. I know that some like all the effects in one pedal. My experience with these lead me to say the argument goes back in time. . When folks put a turntable, cd player. and the receiver in one package they are "SOL" when something breaks you have nothing until the unit is repaired I would not like an integrated package of guitar effects. Unless I had a rack mount from Marshall/Korg , or the same by Danelectro. This is a GREAT effect !

                      .

My first one was dead on arrival but MF exchanged it with no problems.

Works as it is supposed to. I like the subtle "soft" setting. "Hard" sounds like the original AC30 vibrato channel.

This pedal surpasses the on board trem of many old amps and will definitely get you there if you want that sweet shimmer.
