As a Street Musician playing harmonica through a battery-operated Pignose amplifier, I wanted some type of effect that would broaden and deepen my sound. This delay pedal does exactly that, surprising me at how good my tone sounded through the Pignose. I would buy this pedal again! The only bad thing about the product is the 9 volt battery supplied by the manufacturer: branded as Danelectro Vintage Power Source, the battery lasted about ten minutes. As soon as I put a Duracell battery into the pedal, everything worked great. I now pack an extra 9 volt for the pedal, along with AA batteries for the Pignose when I hit the street

I was fairly pleased with this delay. It sounded just fine for several weeks. It has a quick delay switch or long delay, which is a nice feature, except the switches are too close together so that hitting the switch you want actually took a bit of practice. The big problem was that after a couple of weeks the pedal got really noisey -- created a lot of distortion even when it was off. I sent it back and ordered a digitech, which is almost twice the price. I hope it works better.

Great little pedal

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

Had this little pedal for years. Spent hours with a Line 6 trying to get the delays right for "U2's Streets Have No Name" and not til I pulled this out did a get a resounding "whatever you are using now KEEP IT" from a person I know who is a U2 fanatic. OK, so it is not in the same league and the rack mounted Korg delays or even the Line 6 DL4, etc. but it has had intermittant use over the years and has lived on my pedal board for the last two years next to my vintage and boutique pedals and has held it's own. The only complaint I have with it is I wish it were bigger for my big feet since I do use both long and short delay features. Mine has never gone "noisy" like some of the other reviews. Great little pedal.

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I own this pedal and i have to say. this is a good pedal. It's shape is a little awkward, but if i were designing a delay, i would do it this way. although i would put the inputs and out puts on the sides. But that doesn't matter. this PB&J is tasty1 the two speeds comes in handy.

Nice unit with some good features

By Gervasoni

from Cagliari, Italy

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

This little thing is capable up to 1 sec of delay, but keep in mind that is not digitally controlled although is digital effect, so the same settings on two days will sound different. It emulates a sort of an analog effect, so the repeats even at full mix will fade out, even the first repeat. Is 9v so does not have headroom, a very light OD in front of it will make it clip, so a FX loop placement is necessary. Buttons are difficult to engage quickly when not aimed before. Compared to a DE-7 Ibanez, it sounds a little bit warmer, on the analog side, but lacks of features (time, type of delay). Important thing, it eats up A LOT LESS power than other 9V delay pedals, both on adapter and battery.

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

It's a great pedal that I used until it broke. Remember, dano's are bad for the road. It's more of an echo pedal than a delay as the long selection isn't long really, at all.

Warm delay but difficult to engage with foot

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I owned this pedal and really liked the warm analog delay tones. This is a quality sounding pedal. However, it is nearly impossible to engage the pedal due to the tiny buttons. You really have to toe it just right (sometimes several toe pushes) to get it to engage or disengage.

Great Delay, For a Great Price

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I bough this pedal wanting a delay that could switch from long to short with the push of a button. There are only a few delay pedals with this feature: Some boutique pedals, the line 6 dl4 (can you say overkill??) and this one. I got it thinking it was analog, and soon found out it is not (I don't know if danelectro makes analog pedals at all), but anyway, it sounds like it still. I don't use delay that much, but when I need it, this beauty does the trick. There are three controls to adjust the 'mix, speed, repeats' which all work great. No separate controls for short/long, but dan-o makes it work just fine. The pedal sounds great, repeats get darker and darker, which I think sounds fantastic, especially for digital. All in all, this is a great delay pedal if you want something to fool around with, but also with the capable of seriousness. Check it out, besides, anythings better than a boss.

Danelectro PB & J Digital Delay Pedal

By Wayne

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

This is a great digital delay unit for the money. The ability to give short and long delay is a definite plus and the electronic engineers have done their homework, by setting all controls to 12 oclock gives classic delay in long mode and a thick small room delay in short mode. However there is a downside that keep me from scoring a perfect 5 for this unit. Construction was such that both foot activation switches had to be shimmed up to activate the electronics consistently. This flawed an otherwise great unit.

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I LOVE this thing. Lots of people bag on Dan-o pedals, but I love these little jewels. I use this pedal with the Dan-o mini chorus and my guitar just weeps. It's great. Many folks will buy a different brand because of the name brand recognition (so they can have whatever gear is deemed "cool" by their peers at the time, which just happens to be Line 6 and BOSS right now). However, where I'm from it ain't about what fashion statement it makes, it's whether it is tough, reliable, and able to produce up to its claims. This pedal is just that, as are the other 7 Dan-o pedals I own. I've never had one problem with any of them, and they've taken a few pretty good knocks on the road, gotten cold, hot, even wet once (Drizzle). They have never hitched in their performance, and they give great sound and adjustability. I would chose 7 or 8 of these pedals over a $300-500 multi-FX board. In fact, that's what I DID... and I've never looked back.I have some friends that play with the Dan-o mini's as well (one is a professional guitarist who uses them for gigs), and none of us have ever had to contact Dan-O customer service for anything. NOW THAT is a GOOD PRODUCT. How many Digitech, Zoom, Boss, etc., owners can say that?

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I hated this pedal when I first got it, but it?s grown on me. The case is plastic, but it can stand up to a lot of weight. The buttons are very hard to push while playing. It takes practice to get used to the way you have to press them. If you wear boots while playing, forget about it. I have to use the tip of my shoes in order to hit it right. The knobs are weak feeling and I?m afraid I might break them when hitting other pedals. You can buy covers, but this pedal isn?t worth it. The range of speed is poor, but the short/long delay button is nice. When you turn it on, it?s on long delay, but if you push both buttons at the same time, it?ll go to short. The LED is very easy to see and you know if you?re on short delays (red) or long delays (green). The mix knob works nice. The repeat knob is nice too, but the first half of the range is pointless. Speed is hard to tweak. It?s no loop station, but it works as sort of a delay style reverb. Reverb is all I really use it for. I played with the knob until I found a good speed and haven't changed it.The bottom is made of metal and covered with rubber for grip. However, if you ran out of Pedal Power cables like me, there?s a hole in the metal that you can cut the rubber out around and put the 9volt to 9volt adapter through. Makes it a bit wobbly, but it works.Style is cool, but pretty pointless for the cost. Some people swear by it, but if you?re just looking to stock up on some pedals, look past this one.

Best of both worlds!

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I have owned this pedal for a little over 3 years and have never had a single problem with it! I play over 100 nights a year and it has never ever failed me.I love the fact that I can change from short to long echoes with the simple tap of my toe. My only complaint on this pedal is that I wish the toe buttons were either a little bigger or that it had traditional switches. Highly recommended! I've owned all of the classics including Roland Space echo.

Can make some cool sounds

By Matt Lind

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

this is awesome. it has the second button for changing speed, and when you have it on fast, it kind of gives it a reverb sound. if you have it on slow, you can really play with it. great sound, and I found that if you adjust the speed knob with feedback, you can get some very intersting sounds.

My Favorite Pedal

By Aidan

from carlsbad, CA

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I got this pedal just for the price, but I was wowed over by it! It is great for bending/tremelo solos. There are a couple of down sides. The first one is it is hard to push the buttons with your toe( this has messed up at least one performance.) Its knobs are very delicate and even though mine has a metal cover it scrathes easily. There was also a flaw that made it better it can bend the pitch when I play with the speed knob. Over all though, it is my favorite pedal.

It's hard to believe such a great delay can be sold for so little money. Much easier to use than delays costing 20 times more. Sounds very vintage, think early Jimmy Page.

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I bought one of these a couple of years ago, and it never worked more than an hour each time I used it. It would start distorting and squealing until I tapped on it and most of the time that wouldn't work. I went back to my old DOD delay, which I had since the early 80's.Danelectro pedal products are priced cheap because they are cheap....in quality!Save your money and buy a good delay over a hundred bucks or more!

Swee dealy for delay!

By Mouse-.ITu1

from Spring Hill, FL

Comments about Danelectro DJ17 PB and J Delay Pedal:

I have my PB+J for about a year and it rocks! It obviously can't do all the cool tricks of a digital delay, but is perfect for everything else. It holds onto my exact tone, and gives awesome delay without the crazy feedback of some cheap stompboxes *cough*ARION*cough* can't beat the price either. Great for contemporary worship. Being the pedal-addict that I am, I'll have to replace it with the BOSS Giga Delay.
