I recently got back into playing guitar with the help of a few early Christmas gifts. One such gift was the much-appreciated Dean Stack in a Box headphone amp.Out of the box the first thing noted is the small size of the amp - VERY portable and stowable. The next thing I noticed was the "cheapish" included headphones. Not a big deal really as most portable music devices come with bottom-line headphones as well (i.e. MP3 players, portable DVD, etc.) so reaching for my "good" 'phones was to be expected anyway. The volume on this unit was adequate for a moderately quiet environment. I can easily practice in the living room with my son wailing on Guitar Hero II. This amp really helps one tune out the outside world. The Dean Stack in a Box has proven itself INDESPENSBLE to this beginner guitar player. Simply put - I need practice... ...LOTS of it. This little amp helps me get that done long after the kids have gone to bed.The sound of this unit was the biggest bonus. On the Clean and Overdrive settings the tone of my new Epiphone LP comes through wonderfully. The Distortion setting has plenty of crunch for those pounding Punk and Metal riffs and solos. As a beginner I play a lot of "Three-Chord-Punk" and it sounds great on the Stack in a Box.BOTTOM LINE: Great headphone amp for the price. Get better headphones to discover the full potential of this "Mini-Me" amp. The only problem I have is lack of sleep from playing into the wee hours of the night.Highly Recommended.

This thing buzzes like crazy. I've noticed that if it's close to any electronic device (computer, laptop, LCD TV even), the buzz will become wildly intolerable. The only ways to remove the buzz (at least for me) were to move around to find a sweet spot or turn the guitar volume REALLY low with the amp on clean setting, in which case, you might as well play without an amp. Other than that, the tone is really weak and disappointing. The only plus I see is how portable it is. Maybe it was just my unit.

This thing really works!

By Hypomotized

from N.E. Pa.

Sound quality is good. There are 2 settings on distortion, mild and wild. They work very well. The provided headset is krappy. I plugged in a quility set and it sounds sweet. Strat volume I keep at 50%. The volume from this thing will deafen you. It's really loud. You won't be disappointed.

I had a rockman,wish I still did

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I had the original Rockman back in the 80's, it was great. This product is ok but not great. The OD is fair, the distortion just sounds like the OD only a little loder. Save your money and but a Rockman, they sound a whole lot better.

Awful

By TonyL

from PA

I purchased this recently. Not crazy about it at all. The sound quality is terrible on overdrive and distortion. Clean channel is just ok, but why buy a stack in a box if you are just going to use clean? The quality of construction and the headphones are what really turned me off, along with the lack of a volume control. This is a lousy deal for what you pay. I went out and bought a Roland Micro-Cube instead for portable practice, and it is sweet!

Works Great!

By zepfan331

from Lexington

This thing is a beast. It works just as good with my bass as it does with my regular guitar, which is great! The overdrive and distortion are really cool and i dont get fuzz, even when i use it with my bass. And its so small and light and easy to use. If your looking for a small amp get this one, dont hesitate. I tried out a Marshall MS-2 and this one sounds a lot better!

I drive semi for a living and I wanted something simple and small and portable. I use a cassete adapter in place of the headphones into the vehicle's stereo I even run the signal into my laptop for recording too. It rocks and works well. I am thinking of getting another 1 or 2.

Dean Stack in a Box Guitar Headphone Amp

By EmHLesPaul59

from The Dalles, OR

Just came in the mail after only waiting 2 days which I thought was pretty good service. Very pleased with sound. All three tones sound great especially to a beginner like myself. Pleasently surprised by the distortion. Forget about using the stock headphones. Most of you'll be buying better ones anyway. For the purpose of being able to play anywhere and not disturb anyone nor lug around an amp this is a perfect choice. Very reasonably priced.

Pretty sweet...

By Fretdestroyer

from Uncasville, CT

This thing has got a ballsy tone for a headphone amp of its size...In my opinion, this thing even blows the original Rockman Ace headphone amps away. It amazingly powered my 1x15'' setup for well over 6 hours by now (added up) and the battery is still fine. I highly recommend it.

Best money I have spent in a while.

By Jaymz-Gp6ZP

from DeSoto, IL

I just got this product and love it. I use it on my bass and it sounds great. I would recommend this to everyone. For the price there is nothing like it. It will probably never leave my practice bass again.
