Get three channels of versatility, with 180W of thunder.

The Diezel Herbert is a 180W six-power-tube guitar amplifier head. It features 3 channels, for 3 distinct different guitar sounds.

It's main difference from the VH4 models are in voicing, circuit design, and general layout. Overall the Herbert has a more familiar, slightly looser feel than the VH4, without losing much of the Diezel signature definition and tightness. Simply put, the amp is a player's amp, forgiving and ready for whatever one's soul and mood desires.

Channel one produces a warm and sparkly clean sound, reminiscent of a piano. It has immense overhead, whenever a very loud, but crystal clear clean tone is desired.

Channel two is a dual-purpose channel, its two voicings can be selected with a toggle switch. The (-) mode of this channel has dynamics to range from a vintage type clean sound to a broad crunch. The (+) mode of this channel offers similar voice, but much more gain. Both modes provide ample pick sensitivity.

Channel three offers a high-gain structure, but again with very good pick sensitivity and easy control. The distortion structure is transparent, but yet percussive and brutal.

Herbert Amplifiers have a selectable mid cut feature, assignable to all channels. This adds tremendously to the versatility of the amp. The mid cut feature has a compensation control called "level". This allows the guitar volume to be compensated in the event of the mid cut being engaged in mid song. Herbert's master section features dual volume controls, and global presence and deep control knobs. Master effects loops are switch-able serial loop, parallel loop, and serial loop.

Comments about Diezel Herbert 180W Tube Guitar Head:

I owned this head for about 2 years and sold it and toured with it over that duration.

It NEVER failed on me. And it sounded great, but only 2/3rds great for a three channel head.

Let me explain.

The clean channel and the "Crunch" channel are perfect. Not to mention the Mid-cut feature completely slays the competition.

But when you get into the thrid channel, something was off. And I found (evan after talking to Peter Diezel himself) that the actual design of the channel in general does not sound good with other amps. I kept hearing over and over in forums "this head does not sound good next to other amps, it doesnt cut through the mix".

And its because the thrid channel has something off with it. I sat down in my studio and recorded every channel with every other head, a 5150ii, mesa Road King, Mesa Stiletto and a Bogner Uberscall. Everything soudned perfect with the head, EXCEPT the third channel. It was completely out of phase with the other channels.

Which is a travisty with a $4000 amplifier. It should really be marketed as a 2 channel head, or the 3rd channel redesigned so it can cope with other amps on stage. Otherwise, anyone looking to have the "Diezel" sound in a studio only with 4k laying around to blow, I could understand. Also, because this thing also weighs a TON. It was NOT fun to tour with and carry around. This is not a working musicians amplifier.

I'm sorry, but I couldnt reccomend this product to a friend. The Con's I experanced, just completely outweighed the Pro's. There is a HUGE amount of amplifiers I'd suggest over this amplifier any day.

Comments about Diezel Herbert 180W Tube Guitar Head:

    Diezel Herbert Mk2.
The tight low palm-mutes will crush through your chest when paired with a quality 412 cabinet. This amp has the potential to put out low end similar to a bass amp thanks to the over-sized power transformer.

Clean channel is solid. With the right pickups, it sounds great.
Channel 2- is for rock riffs. Great channel.
Channel 2+ is for metal riffs. Great channel.
Channel 3 is for metal riffs and soloing. It's looser feeling than channel 2+. Great channel.

There is a midcut that can be applied to any channel. With the high-gain channels, midcut has the potential to take the amp into crazy scooped death metal territory. With cleans, midcut offers a clearer sound.

The overall voicing of the amp is LOUD, IMMEDIATE, and PUNCHY with CLARITY.

The power amp can run on 6L6s, EL34s, or a combination of both.
In the Herbert, using all 6L6s gives the clearest "bell like" tone for cleans. Also, guitar solos will sound smoother.
Loading up six EL34s in the Herbert gives the most aggressive cut and tight lows for crushing metal riffs.

This amp is LOUD. No natural drum kit can keep up with the headroom in this power section.

Based on my experience, this is the best amp for metal riffing.
