This is it. Better than the others I've used which include the MT-2 Metal Zone, fx57 American Metal, Digitech RP80, and others. Still better than those even in conjuction with various pedal chain configurations with compression/sustain, equalizer, chorus, delay, noise suppression pedals. The tone is great and really easy to dial in. You can get just about any kind of heavy distortion sound out of this you want. I got what I wanted right away. I plugged in, set the control knobs to 5, set distortion to "I Am The Law", set all my amp setting to 5, and that was it. Exactly what I wanted. No frustration at all. Don't bother with other pedals unless your a noise freak. The only reason I'm giving this a 4.5 is because it is slightly noisy and slow to get those noise gates going. If you hit a string and mute it lightning quick you can hear the noise dropping off pretty well at practice volume levels. Turned up really loud, it can be almost unnoticeable. In a loud mix, fuhget about it. You'll never notice. With this much distortion, and the sweet motherload of sustain, it's normal to have oodles of noise. This one handles it pretty well. I'm very impressed. And I'm darned near a noise freak myself. Even if you already have a good pedal setup, this puppy will make the perfect backup too! Can't be beat. Totally worth the money. The sound clip here is good, but it sounds even better than that!

It's like 5 distortions and one weird octave effect. I gave a 3 for value because if you think 5 distortion sounds and one octave effect is a good deal for what this pedal costs, you don't understand value. The only effect that the knobs on this thing even do anything to is the octave effect. Turn the knobs down and you can hardly hear the effect, turn them up for the full effect. Unless your a super anthrax fan don't get this if all your lookin for is 5 distortion stompboxes that sound almost the same and one weird effect thats novelty is short lived. Get a digitech rp 250 and get 40 times your money worth and still get 5 distortions and an octave effect.

The search is over

I cannot believe how great this pedal sounds. The tone, crunch, and sustain are terrific; not to mention the lack of noise when compaired to other distortion pedals. As far as value goes, it is worth every penny; considering you get a case for the pedal as well as a power supply. After playing through this pedal, I had to retire my Boss Metal Zone pedal. Yes, it's that good. NOTE: This is NOT an overdrive pedal. If you want a warm tube overdive/ distortion, look elsewhere. However,if your into heavy distortion, forget the other brands because nothing comes close to the Black-13 in terms of sound and value.

Hell Yeah!

I just got this pedal for my birthday, and at first I thought most of them sounded the same.. mainly the 'I am the law' and the 'Madhouse' settings.. but i messed around a little bit and HOLY SH*T! It was earbleeding f*****g hardcore distortion!! I was amazed, I love it. If you are looking brutal distortion, look no further. The Scott Ian Black 13 is well worth it and I reccomend it for any metalhead who is looking to get the right distortion for them. this will satisfy no matter what!!

Awesome pedal when used smartly

By RRRandy

I got this pedal recently and am extrememly happy with it. The range of sounds is nice to have (I agree with the world that 7 is restrictive and won't be used often). I can get great deep chugging sounds as well as squealing harmonics that are totally satisfying. Due to the lack of a gain control, though, you'll want a boost or eq pedal before this to give your signal a bump for the ultimate metal lead tone. It will also help with the sharp cutoff the built in noise gate tends to have otherwise, which is also fortunately unadjustable. Overall a great pedal paired with an eq pedal before it.

Pretty Awesome Pedal

I use a Laney amp and an Epiphone SG with this thing, and the distortion couldn't get any heavier. I gave it a 10 for features because it doesn't matter what kind of music you play, one of the 7 modes on this pedal will work for you. I gave it a 9 for quality because it only sounds good after a lot of tweaking. I gave it a 9 on value because of that. But overall it's probably the heaviest distortion pedal you can own today.

Best Pedal I Ever Used

I've been playin guitar for only a little while, Ive searched for some heavy distortion since I like to play metal and I found it. Even with a small amp, you can get some real crunch out of it. *A Metal Player's Must Have*

Very good distortion pedal

I bought this pedal used last week and must say that it is an outstanding distortion pedal. I felt like my amp didn't have enough bottom end crunch and this pedal solved that problem. It's got brutal bottom end but only fair on the top. This pedal is ideal for hard rock/metal rhythm players. The models are nice, however model 7 is practially worthless. I only paid $27 for my pedal (with box and a/c). I can't say that it's good enough to justify the retail price, but if you can find a nice used one it's a great deal.

I love this pedal. especially because I have a line 6 spider II and the distortion on those things suck but this just makes it sound awesome. this pedal is a must for any anthrax fan or any fan of thrash metal. another plus is this thing comes with a power supply so you dont have to worry about your battery dying.

Super duper accurate Anthrax tones

By MetalcoreIsForChumps

This is the greatest preamp pedal ever made for commercial use, by far. It murders the DOD 250 on the DigiTech DF-7. It mashes to get those coveted awesome Scott Ian tones. It will also take care of what the Boss Metal Zone was built to do- the Black-13 can also get killer Slayer and death metal and black metal tones too. Also, with a lot of midrange, it can get decent Megadeth and Black Album tones. Forget about using it for Pantera though. For Pantera, just mid-scoop your amp's overdrive and dime the gain. But if you're way into Anthrax, just buy this pedal. Don't waste your time; just buy it.
