As I mentioned, my primary use of this unit is to get extended range. I've set up one patch in the Whammy function to drop what I'm playing on the bass one full octave, another to drop it a semi-tone (one fret), and another to drop it a full tone. I may make a patch to drop everything down a fifth to give me BEAD tuning, but we'll see. I can toggle back and forth between the dropped tuning and normal using the expression peddle. This works for me really well. The sound coming out of the amp is very close to a "clean" unprocessed sound, which is what I want using it in this manner.

I also have one patch that is strictly volume control, so I can use it as a volume pedal.

The compressor function works well enough, although it is a little on the noisy side. This was no surprise, as most compressors are, with exception of the higher-end units. I'm not in a studio setting, so this isn't a big deal, as the noise from the effect is not overwhelming. On my compressed patches, I bump the noise gate up to "one", which takes care of the hiss when I'm not playing. When playing, I don't notice it at all.

I know will be using the reverb, chorus and flanger from time to time also for added fullness in some tunes where appropriate. Also, the modeling amps and cabinets may come in handy. Once you get the hang of it, the unit is easy to program. It gives you 50 slots to stick your own custom patches in addition to the 50 that it comes with that can't be modified.

In addition to the several modeled amp heads and cabinets, this unit comes with:

    Wah
    compressor
    noise gate
    equalizer
    chorus
    flanger
    phaser
    tremolo
    panner
    vibrato
    Octavider
    envelope filter
    "ya ya" and auto-ya
    step filter
    "synth talk"
    detune
    pitch shift
    Whammy
    delay
    reverb

Oh, and it's also got 40 drum rhythms.

I would encourage anyone considering purchase to go over to DigiTech's website and download the PDF owner's manual to get all the juicy details.
Besides all the effects listed, it comes with included power supply. It has a single instrument input, left and right outputs to an amp (or other high-Z device) and a 1/8" headphone / earphone jack.

I purchased the BP90 because for Easter this year our church group is working up a tune that has a synth bass requiring me to get deeper tones and go a lower than my 4-string's normal range would practically allow, even with drop tuning. I have short fingers and have been playing skinny 4-string Jazz necks long enough that I really just did not want to buy a 5-string and learn to play a surf board. I had played through a an RP355 guitar processor that has the Whammy effect, and determined that it would provide just about what I was looking for. I'm a bass "purist", playing only through an amp for 30+ years, but I had kinda been wanting a compressor anyway for use in slapping, so I pulled the trigger on the BP90. The cost of the DigiTech Whammy unit and a decent compressor separately would be well over twice the money that I spent on this unit, and I figured I may be able to use some of the other effects occasionally.
I was a little apprehensive about the plastic housing as opposed to the metal that comes with the BP355, but this unit is still very well made and the plastic seems be the of sufficient strength that with reasonable care, the unit should last well. I think if I were on the road as a gigging bassist though, I would opt for the BP355 if only for the heavier construction that unit provides. My daughter has an RP355, which has the same housing as the BP355. That unit is very heavy and would provide an extra measure of durability.
A lot of bang for the buck. More effects than I'll ever need or use. It gets a good sound, the effects are very high quality.

    Difficulty understanding ops manual

the manual is poorly written. I cannot figure out how to get codes for different amp sounds, possibly pedal is actually broken. Cannot register product online.

This effect pedal has SO many great amp and cabinet models and the response is very fast. I use it with an inexpensive solid state amp for some live gigs and get this really cool tube sound that listeners and myself are amazed at! Takes many hours to figure it out (user manual is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!) but once you dial it is a fantastic tool at this price.

This is my first effects pedal, but for the price, it's better than what I expected. Some of the tones are a lot of fun to play around with, and I'm still experimenting. My only problem is with the manual itself. It's kind of confusing.

Comments about DigiTech BP90 Bass Modeling Multi Effects Processor:

I bought it for what it does and it does it well. I play a Warlock (blood spatter Revenge series) Bass through this pedal and into a small Mackie board(402) and then into my computer(cooleditpro 2.1), this line up works well. Presets #14, 44, 64 and 94 all come out really well for a straight forward bass sound during recording. I'm still exploring this pedal, but so for I have no complaints. Sounds good- matches up well with the Rivera Metal Shaman if you plan to record. I wouldn't use it live, it probably wouldn't survive the rough nature of gigging out alot. Overall great pedal if you use it correctly.

Playing old bass lines on a new effects-based level, is alot of fun! If you can make 'em guess, or not recognize it, while playing it correctly, you made a little magic! I love music, besides, we enjoy "playing" to music when we aren't playing music, so why not a little surprise?!! ha,ha! Good clean fun with a little kicker in the mix! YAY!
