Hey guys. The DigiDelay has always had a special place in my heart. I thought it looked cool and had tons of features, so after trying a DD-3 for a few months, and my first DE-7 broke, I sprung for this little guy and used it for quite awhile.

The delays are crisp but not harsh. They are similar to a DD-3 but colored slightly different. (It's hard to explain. If a guy was a delay freak he'd own both of the pedals for different slight colorations on songs.) The reverse mode is cool, but not exactly what I was expecting as I wanted to solo in reverse in real time. Not so. You will play notes, and depending on the mix they might be silent, then return back to you in a couple hundred milliseconds backwards (not the phrase, the notes only).

You'll find that Ping Pong (normal) mode is king. That setting had me reeling for hours. Bounce. And while "Tape" mode was a nice addition, it was only slightly warmer but still obviously digital. "A warmer color" is more of a description. Still an excellent alternative to the digital mode, and it may become your mainstay.

Mod Delay in my opinion is unique and phrasy, but is best when used sparingly. A little too "out of the box" (flangy delay) but still a worthy alternative to the line-up (much like EHX's "Flerb" on the Holy Grail). Oh, and we have slap back. Purely digital metallic slap, as if you were in a metal chamber the size of a gymnasium. Very metallic yet still somewhat natural.

The chassis (on all of these Digitech stomps) are solid like a brick. Overall this pedal is a worthy investment, and I'd give you a high-five if you got one. HOWEVER There's only one contender that beats out the DigiDelay for me : the DE-7. But it is prone to breaking so a re-house may be in order. If only the Ibanez pedals had the reliability and solid chassis this DigiDelay did...

This was my first delay pedal, and I honestly am glad that I got it. It was cheap, it was easy to become familiar with, and I learned some pretty cool stuff from using it. However, a couple years have passed. I've used some higher-end equipment. I now have the ability to compare and contrast, and when using this next to my other delays, this one just seems to fade in comparison.

My biggest gripe is that the delayed signal has a tendency to clip or distort when the incoming signal is deemed too high. This could be either if I strum hard or if I stack delays (which I do quite often for swells). The digital delay showed this the most, actually. The one thing that I hoped it would be able to do best was what showed its flaw the most. The digitally repeated signal just colored and distorted my original signal too much for what I wanted. While I recognize that this interaction may be interesting to a few, a digital delay is intended to recreate the signal flawlessly as opposed to an analog or tape delay.

Another issue that I came across is that this pedal may have too many features. Sure, the multiple delay times for the digital delay is nice. Yeah, the analog emulation is decent. The ping pong delay and the reverse delay are fun. But... a 4 second looper? The idea of having a looper and a delay in the same pedal in this price range sounds appealing, but you ultimately get what you pay for. Because of such a short amount of time to work with, it's almost unusable unless you have a short (and I mean short) riff that you want played over and over. Another thing that I noticed was that there's a tap tempo option with this pedal. I didn't know this until I had owned the thing for two years, and I only stumbled upon it when I accidentally held the pedal down longer than I wanted. Granted, this is a nice feature, but it's not very accessible. And in the end, I begin to wonder if there might be so many features that Digitech tried to pack into one pedal that it might have detracted from what the effect could have been if they instead focused on putting out just one really good pedal.

Maybe I'm whining about something that isn't worth complaining about. But three years down the road, I'm looking to get rid of this pedal. It was nice to start with, but looking back, I wish I had saved an extra couple money so I could get something a bit nicer.

Comments about DigiTech DigiDelay Digital Delay Pedal:

If all you need is a simple delay, this pedal fits the bill. It does nothing wrong. But at the price, don't expect a lot of versatility.

The other delay modes are usable but hardly impressive. The tape delay doesn't sound all that different, there is no analog mode, and the tap tempo is not really practical.

This is a good pedal if you're on a budget, but you can get a much better delay for a little more cash.

Comments about DigiTech DigiDelay Digital Delay Pedal:

Digital delay is supposed to be sharp, exact and predictable. In the botique world, this is known as "sterile." This pedal is a good, cost effective digital delay. It works very well, has stereo outs, ping pong settings and tap tempo (although this could be easier to use). I don't gig it for having a bad "analog" mode, because that is just a bounus feature. It is as good sounding as any digital delay out there, and costs much less. Get your fancy BBD and beautiful botique replica delays elsewhere--this does what it is supposed to do!

Comments about DigiTech DigiDelay Digital Delay Pedal:

I was not impressed with this pedal, but think that it is a good beginner pedal or an inexpensive alternative to the boutique delays. Nothing phenomenal about it but nothing horrible about it either. It does have a decent amount of delay types and looping, so that is cool. I would recommend this for people on a tight budget or just starting out.

Comments about DigiTech DigiDelay Digital Delay Pedal:

Im on my second one-first one fried on me within 2 years.I don't know what it is about this pedal but I like it and it has become part of my sound in spite of its shortcomings. It is not a pristine delay by any means-loop is useless, and when on the the most extreme delay settings it starts to "growl" or "whine" when you bend a note(folks that own this pedal will know what I mean)I only use 3 settings on the knob:classic delay, reverby delay, and for effect sometimes the reverse delay.I actually modded this pedal with an "adjustment wheel"so I can change modes with my foot,I know it sounds crazy but it works for me.I have had this one for about 4 years now and it's still going strong. This is not the best delay you can buy,but it suits my needs and if it broke I would probably throw it against the wall and go buy another new one.
