OVERVIEW

A diverse delay pedal with true hardwire bypass.

The DigiTech HardWire DL-8 is a delay and looper effect pedal that features stereo I/O with selectable tails and a choice of 11 delay types. Among the delays you can configure with the DL-8 are Analog, Lo-Fi, Tape, and Reverse. The DigiTech DL-8 pedal also provides up to 8 seconds of delay and 20 seconds of looping as well as functions like tap-tempo and more.

DigiTech HardWire pedals represent a commitment to quality and attention to subtle details. In addition to technical enhancements like true bypass and high voltage operation, all DigiTech HardWire guitar pedals feature rugged, all-metal construction, a wide, stage-stable footprint, durable, custom-machined metal knobs for a sure grip, and precision potentiometers that guarantee knob positions will stay intact.

The rugged, durable construction of DigiTech Extreme Performance Pedals is just the beginning. Inside each HardWire guitar pedal are technological features that serious players require—all updated and improved to their utmost capacity. True bypass preserves the purity of your original tone as signal passes through the pedal, and high voltage operation further protects your sound by eliminating clipping and other signal degradation caused by power drain.

With the high-output pickups found on some electric guitars, it's not unusual to hear clipping when playing through an effects pedal. This occurs when the voltage range produced by an electric guitar's pickup is greater than the operating voltage of the effects pedal, normally limited to the voltage supplied by the effect's battery or power supply. DigiTech HardWire pedals incorporate circuitry that increases the operating voltage headroom above that of the typical pedal. That means the HardWire DL-8 delay looper pedal can work with a wider range of guitars and is also at home in your amplifier's effects loop.

HardWire Pedals include the following stage accessories:
Stomplock™ knob guard locks your tone in place and prevent tampering or accidental knob adjustments onstage
Pedal Switch Glow Sticker helps you locate the pedal in adverse stage lighting
Custom-cut Hook and Loop Pedalboard Pad to attach and lock your pedals to your pedalboard

The Good: This pedal has a range of good, smooth sounds, some with a decent amount of personality. Everything from a rockabilly slapback to Pink Floyd to a perfect clone of what you just played are in there. Overall, it is a clean machine. If you're looking for a clean delay that never breaks up, this is your pedal. I think the high voltage rails are the main reason you'll never hear this pedal clip unless you intentionally overdrive it with an overdrive pedal. I haven't tried that yet... it could be interesting. Also, it's built like Boss pedals wish they were built. A good analogy of it's sturdiness would be when automobile bodies were built from sheets of steel instead of today's fiberglass and light aluminum. Another plus - two inputs (for your synths and the like) and outputs = stereo, which is the best way to hear how good this thing sounds. The Bad: As mentioned, it has a decent amount of personality, but if this pedal was a girl and you were on a first date, you might be a little bored by her reservedness. She plays it safe, never acts wild or challenges you. You won't get any kind of dirty delay from this pedal. Depending on your needs, that could be good or bad. I'd like it if the extreme settings were closer to bordering controlled chaos than the DL-8 can offer. Also, getting into Tap Tempo mode is difficult. It seems like if you don't release the pedal after EXACTLY 2 seconds, you don't get into Tap Tempo. When you do get into tap tempo, the pedal is rather stiff and resistant to foot clicks and therefore it takes awhile to get your repeats tight with the drummer. In summary, I give it an overall score or 3.5 because the functional drawbacks for a major feature like Tap Tempo are hard to overlook, but the sound and build quality are very good.

There were some things about this pedal that I didn't like. The digital delays sounded too trebly, with no bass on the repeats. It sounded harsh and unmusical. The tape delay had a bad-sounding distortion in the repeats. I really liked the analog delay setting though. However, the knobs do not turn smoothly, they turn in increments a step at a time. I found myself unable to dial in the exact sound I wanted because the time knob would move from too short to too long, and you couldn't set it in between. The pedal was well built, and I like how they designed it to be used with higher output pickups. Also, the option to have the delay keep going after turning it off is cool. Overall though I decided to not keep th is pedal.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

As a stupid deal of the day this couldn't be beat - a great intro to loop effects - this pedal has it all. Only shortcoming is the limit of 20 second loop time. Still glad I got it to play with.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've been on a quest for an excellent digital delay for quite a while, and I've gone through several of them with various degrees of success. My go-to pedal broke, and I couldn't justify spending the amount of money that it would cost to replace it. I bought the DL-8 on sale, and have found it to be one of the best purchases I've made in a long time. The sound quality is great, and it doesn't alter my basic tone as many other delay pedals do. The only thing that I wish this had was a separate tap tempo switch. Just like the TC Electronics Flashback pedal, you use the on/off switch for tap tempo. But one of the nice features is that it stays on even when the tap tempo feature is enabled (unlike the TC Electronics Flashback that goes quiet while you strum the tempo). The knobs on this thing have "clicks" and have the feel of professional studio grade equipment. A couple of really nice features are the pre-cut Velcro sheet, and the little rubber block that goes over the knobs to preserve the settings during transport. Both are included in the box, plus a little "glow in the dark" sticker that can be put on the on/off switch for easier location in dark settings. All in all, you're hard pressed to find a digital delay that's as versatile, good sounding, and feature packed as the DL-8. I have not tried the looper feature, as I'm not really interested in using that.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is an extremely nice pedal for the price. Probably the best bang for ur buck on the market right now. Especially for the price. I have been using a Boss DD-6 for around 10 or 11 yrs now and thought it was the best delay around as far as tone. I purchased a Hardwire Digitech Reverb pedal and fell in love with these pedals so when I saw this pedal for the price I had to try it out. Needless to say this has replaced my Boss DD-6 on my pedal board. Now not to say this sounds better it just sounds different. My Boss delay is very sticky sounding and this one is not. It is a different beast all together. I really, really like the lo-fi and analog settings on the pedal. I am currently using the lo-fi as my lead solo delay and it has a real Gilmourish effect type delay. This pedal really does everything well as far as I can tell. I have noticed that the hardwire pedals do somewhat brighten ur tone and compress just a bit. I would say that most people wont notice this as it is very subtle but it is there. I should mention that I am running this through a Mesa Boogie Triple Rec through the effects loop next to last in my chain before reverb. I may some day go back to my DD-6 but for now I am happy with the change. I only gave this 4 stars bc no product is perfect but after owning hundreds of pedals over the yrs these are really well built and pack a heck of a punch for the cost. Time will tell if they hold up as well as Boss pedals. I am referring to Boss bc that has been my mainstay for effects as far as road durabilty has went. Don't miss this chance to own a head of a fun pedal to play with. Grab one today, u wont be disappointed.

I have owned numerous delay pedals and this is as good or better than any that I've had. I like it better than my Line6 M9 for strictly delays.
Very easy to dial in and fun to experiment with. I have not even tried the looper function yet and this pedal is well worth the money.
