The power to drive your distortion sound, no matter the style.

The DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Pedal is what you want when you need some grit. The multipurpose Hot Head distortion pedal has flexible controls that let you dial in the right tone for your setup. If you want just a little dirt or you need your amp to sound like a raging stack, the DigiTech Hot Head Guitar Pedal can do it. Low and High tone controls give you the flexibility to boost or cut the bass and treble frequencies, the Level knob boosts the output level of your signal, and the Gain knob dials up mild to wild distortion. The Amp output runs into the input of your amplifier and the dedicated Mixer output has a cabinet emulation circuit that lets you run direct into a mixer or recorder when you don't want to lug your amp along.

Features

  • High, Low, Level, and Gain controls

A pedal for this, a pedal for that—what a pain. You'll outgrow your pedalboard before you get it right. Just get one distortion pedal that can do it all. Order now.

I received this pedal as a gift, and the giver wanted me to provide some suggestions as to what kind of sound I'm pushing for, and the guy at the guitar shop recommended the Hot Head based on the description I gave.

I opened the wrapping paper and my first reaction was bewilderment. I would never have bought the pedal myself, so I was interested to plug it in and give it a go. To say the least, I am rather pleasantly surprised. Admittedly, it's not something one would use for thrash or death metal, but it gives a nice old school British metal sound. Warm bass, clean highs, and the distortion ranges from a mild bluesy fuzz to a Judas Priest style high gain. Definitely what I was chasing... and I think if it was teamed up with something like an Orange tube amp and a decent cabinet it'll do the doom metal thing perfectly. I've only got a 60W solid state 2x12 combo at home to play through, so I'm looking forward to the opportunity to plug it into a decent tube rig.

All in all - I'm very happy.

Ok, I tried this pedal out at my local music store and I liked it a lot, it was very versatile in my opinion. But, a local shop reminded me that EVERYTHING sounds different through YOUR amp. This is so true. So since this was so cheap, I decided it was a good deal. When I plugged it into my rig, I was very dissapointed by the lack of tonal range you could get out of this thing. Sure, each knob gives you a wide range for it's parameter, but really, instead of a Low and High knob, they should copy Boss and just give you one TONE knob. The distortion circuit in this is very good and I liked the varied amounts of gain you could get by turning the Gain knob, but I just could dial in a tone that I liked. So I'm returning it. I think this pedal is good for beginners (probably why it's so cheap) I'm sure I would've loved it back when I was starting out, but I've grown and my ears have gotten pickier. Instead I bought the Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde...totally worth every dollar!

On second thought, Astonishing!

Comments about DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

My first impression when I bought this nine months ago was severe disappointment. Harsh, edgy, just plain nasty sounding. After experimenting with it for awhile I finally gave up and packed it away, convinced that it was a mistake.

Then I got a Marshall JVM410h and after reading tips from the nice folks on the JVM Forum, I learned that the proper way to use a pedal like this is to run it into an already slightly dirty amp and use the pedal volume to boost the input to the tubes.

Sheesh! What a difference. Using this on the lower gain channels of the JVM creates a new world of awesome tones. The harsh edginess I experienced when I first tried the pedal gets rounded over by the amp's tube distortion but adds a nice, clear in-your-faceness to the distortion. Cranking the Hot Head's tone controls in different directions and adding or subtracting the pedal's distortion creates an entire palette of tones that are unavailable from the amp alone (mostly in the 80s metal tone-zone).

So now I'm thinking I need to get another one of these so I can set the two pedals up differently for different tones.

By the way, I already own quite a few nice pedals, some of them very expensive. However, this relatively inexpensive guy has no problem joining that distinguished crowd. It has its own character and does great things to tone that my other pedals can't.

Comments about DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

i got this pedal because i was on a budget and needed a new pedal. its okay, if you play classic rock or light rock. the distortion is kinda weak and not good for heavy stuff. i would recommend this to a begginer or someone who likes classic rock styles

Its good, but not a substitution

Comments about DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is good for a simple, low cut distortion. The pedal makes a lot of noise, which is normal for DigiTech, and the gain isn't as heavy as I expected. If you play classic rock or light rock, then this pedal should fit your needs, of course if you have a noise gate. But, it isn't a substitute for maybe a Boss Mega Distortion. IF YOU PLAY METAL DO NOT BUY!

Cure for amps without/toasted distortion gain. Play songs when you can use dry or wet at any time you want and set the settings of sound you want. bought it at the local music store and cranked it and it never ever disappointed me! even you can plug in an amp or mixer. I recommend the Hot Head Distortion Pedal than any other cheap generic brands. DigiTech is quality!

Comments about DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I love this pedal; it has that country spank you can get out of it, some jazz tones, and, if you switch the output to 'MIXER', you can get some awesome tones as well. I love it. I sometimes use it for my praise and worship band for my church and everybody loves it. Highly recommended. Also, very durable. It will last a LONG time.

        Greatness in a box

Comments about DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I received my pedal today, it drove a lot of emotions, not one including disappointment. You will find that this pedal can give you any type of distortion from full-on face melting, to soft and dirty blues. You can set it so open chords may ring out or so power chords can fly to your ears in heavy waves. However, if metal is your main guitar style, this may not be the best choice, the heaviest distortion you may receive is a "Three days Grace" type of sound. This is no doubt the best bang for your buck. You cannot go wrong, keep rocking.

        i love this pedal

Comments about DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

ive had this pedal for over 2 years now, and i still love it as much as the day i bought it. its perfect for the types of music i play most, like punk and psychobilly, and its surprisingly versatile. its not very expensive but its a good product. the distortion is hard to describe, best way to decide if its for you is probably to go try it out at a store, but anyway i think its a really good product and its really inexpensive compared to other products that are just as good.

        Try the mixer output

        By Stratmaster724

Comments about DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is an excellent tube distortion pedal, turn the gain down for just the right amount of breakup, and crank it to get crazy! The only problem is that i found the amp channel to be too tinny, this was easily solved by running out of the mixer output and tone adjustments. Also my experience has shown Digitech to actually outlast more expensive Boss products, excellent quality.Overall excellent buy and great addition to any pedalboard classic, bluesy, biting tube sound!

        Better than some others...

        By Super Rat

Comments about DigiTech Hot Head Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've owned the Hot Head pedal for over a year and I'm still as pleased with it as I was the day I bought it. I tried it out "head-to-head" in my local music store against three of the other popular brands and this one had the best sound, IMHO, and it was the least expensive.
