OVERVIEW

A wide range of features combined with ease of use make the DigiTech JamMan a perfect sampler for practicing, composing, and performing.

The JamMan Stereo also features true stereo looping, reverse playback, and a mic input making it perfect for backing tracks or DJ applications.

The JamMan Stereo features USB connectivity and will sync to DigiTech's free JamManager software that organizes and saves your JamMan Stereo loops to PC or Mac. JamManager also lets you quickly create custom JamLists to take to your gig.

The JamMan Stereo also feature a 1/4" Rhythm Output jack to send to your monitor, keep the rest of the band in sync.

I like the performance of the machine better but hate the software and support of the Jamman Manager.
The software to download files from the computer to the Jamman is in some ways awkward and frustrating. There are a lot more hoops to jump through to get my tracks on the new Jamman Stereo. Building a library; building a JamList; transferring from library to Jamlist; then downloading to Jamman ONE AT A TIME. ARGGGHH!!! So slow and time intensive. And then after all that they don't show up on the Jamman itself. Then there's getting the computer to even recognize the SD card. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Then there's the "help" (?) icon for the Jamman Manager manual which can only be accessed on the Internet and not saved to the desk top of your computer. The more I use it the more my rating for it goes down. The one thing that makes it better than the previous version is that I don't have to make a folder for each song the new version imports the song. OK, that's cool! One last BIG, WHAT!?! To move from the built in memory (which holds less than 30 min. of memory) to the SD card memory on the machine, the user has to scroll up to the last space at 99 before it kicks over to the SD card memory. Why isn't there a switch or button for that? Genius?
The machine itself is better operating quality that the previous version (so far), but the buttons are noisey and can be picked up by the vocal mic. I liked the pedals better on the previous version.
I'm glad it's not more expensive than the last version because it wouldn't be worth the value then.

a review unlike other reviews

By Albert Simpson

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

software:
plus: allows setting a bpm tempo, volume leveling, arranging sequential order of loops, storage on the jamman and archiving onto a computer.
minus: with any type of multistep saving, the interface freezes and does not recover w/o restarting program. so get ready for some major frustration - you have been warned

on stage:
plus: the ability to send a click track to a monitor mix (drummers love you for this), you can circumvent the sound engineer (they may hate you for this) and control your vocal, instrument, loop track, and rhythm volume.
minus: pedals click loudly, inability to set loops to advance automatically in order

home/studio:
plus: transitions are seemless unlike RC 30, recording space limitless unlike RC 20
minus: refer to my software review

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

My first looper, but did my homework. Learning curve: 1 hour to reasonably dub lead over dubbed rhythm over drum/rhythm guide track. 3 more hours to take free internet backing tracks through iTunes to this Jamman Stereo and playing lead over. The most time was learning how to convert backing tracks to iTunes files to .wav files, which is a computer issue. People need to understand that you need all of your effects before the looper and always run a clean amp, otherwise, your drum, clean guitar, keyboard, and bass tracks will get distorted as well. Also, if you want to change tracks on the fly, other single and dual pedal loopers require additional expensive switch pedals that this unit has built in!! FANTASTIC! (wimpy guide track sounds and no power switch dinged quality to 4.5)P.S. A free downloadable software upgrade (1 minute) was prompted, so maybe this solved earlier reviewers' software criticisms, because it seems easy and flawless to me.

An excellent unit--but beware the Jammanager

By Scott Bishop

from Boston MA

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

For me, this was a toss up between the Jamman Stereo and the Boss RC-30. I think I would have been happy with either, but the Jamman is an impressive machine. I've had it for two weeks, and I'm finding it easy to use. Where I get stuck, I turn to the brief owner's manual.

The main drawback right now is that Jammanager, the software that transfer files between your Jamman and computer, really doesn't work. (There are known, ongoing problems with it, and the Digi-Tech contact who got back to me acknowledged there were issues that needed to be fixed in relation to OSX, which is what I'm using.) Unfortunately, I expect 75% of what I want to do with the looper will involve loops imported into the machine, rather than loops created by using the Jamman itself (whether live/on the fly or prerecorded). That's not enough to make me want to return the machine--the actual pedal is great, and there is a line in for recording from an outside source. (This also means I can't utilize another cool feature--the rhythm track that can be sent just to your monitor mix.)

I also didn't find any of the tone suck I've read other guitar players talk about. That was actually my biggest concern going in.

Ultimately, if Digi-tech can fix the bugs in Jammanager, this will be a 10 in my book. But I have to knock two points off for the software's current bugginess, which makes 3/4 of what I do more difficult (but with a workaround, not impossible) to accomplish.

Terrible Unit, Major Corners Cut

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

Definently recomend against purchasing this product due to its unreliability and hastle.
The reverse is a cool feature to have, no easy way to live edit tempo and undoing loops proves to be unreliable.
Upon buying the Jamman, it worked for about a month until the loops started skipping on the 3rd beat. Tried contacting the company and was told that I had to manually alter each track seperately by turning off the rythm machine. this is a huge waste of time and is completely not worth the effort. NOT recomended for live performance due to Digitechs policy of cutting corners to save money. After manually "fixing" this problem, both output jacks give no signal out (in the middle of a jam) and left me stranded. If your willing to spend $300 on a unit whos shelf life is about a month, then by all means go for it.

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

Had the first jamman and upgraded to this one. Wish I had kept the old one. Accidentally put my SD card in backwards (Dark Room) I now own a $ paper weight ! My fault I suppose, but the old one would not go in all of the way if this happened. I really think they rushed this to market. Took over a month to hook up on line and get updates. Does not have the fault codes listed anywhere in the manual. Loved the old on, wish I had kept it. I feel fail-safe could have been built in to this unit.

An evolved phrase Sampler for the evolved musician

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

I play a Fender Deluxe Ash Strat through the JML2 (an upgrade from the BOSS RC-20XL) and have had nothing but positive experiences throughout my accustoming to it.Functionality: The pedal at first seems self-explanatory, but I strongly urge a quick read through the entire manual, as I learned things I literally would never by playing with it. The switches are fairly quiet and the Loop Up/Down switches come in handy.Features: Having 198 slots for your phrases is... well, it's incredible. The JML2 allows you to insert an SD memory card if you end up using more than the factory installed memory and presets. I'm using a 4GB card, 75% being 10-20 second loops and 25% being 2-5 minute full-length songs. The quality is above par as the audio files are uncompressed.Software: If you take two or three minutes to get familiar with the JamManager, you will learn its ups and downs, but hot-headed players will likely get frustrated when they lose patience before they figure out the UI. Take a minute.Best pedal I've bought for my board thus far. You get a LOT for your money.

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this for live looping on the fly as appose to prerecord backing tracks. Its not perfect but its very close. The jam manager software was an afterthought for me, but now that Ive used it, I like it a lot. Its simple and reliable and quite useful. Im very impressed with this product. Its got to be hard to make everyone happy with a device as versatile as this one, but I think digitech is off to a great start at a great price, and they seem to be making improvements as they go along.
i wish there was a faster way to remove your frist loop. if it goes wrong, you have to hit stop and then hold to erase. it's only a couple or seconds but when playing live...?(perhaps the footswitch extension can speed this up? or why not just hold the rec. as one does for all other subsequent overdubs)

There are other small things that could be changed with an software down load update. Perhaps a choice of features that maximizes the unit for either live looping or backing tracks, depending on what the user wants it for.
Very solid

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

Musicians Friend sent me one that I think had been sold before and returned. The factory presets were not functioning correctly and the 1st preset was all feedback. I thought the box look pretty worn when I received it. I call Digitech and reset the factory presets, so I did not need to send it back. I use this to practice and for live performances. It's great for solo and duo gigs. This tool really makes playing solo guitar gigs fun because I can lay down the changes then with my octave divider lay down a bass track over that and then play the melody and then blow over the changes. All this does takes time to develop but I use it sparingly. Mostly for uptempo tunes when I want to create a little movement. It's great fun for noisy cocktail hours when they want some background music. It's also great in duo situations because it gives more parts to play with. Endings can be tricky but you can set it up to fade out or turn it off and do a turnaround live after you hit the stop button. The best thing about this one is that when you hit the button there is no delay time in the time. It makes it easy to use right out of the box. This one is easy to use and lots of fun. Good Luck!

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

I originally tried the BOSS RC-3 and returned it right away. Loop playback levels were too low and rhythm tracks were awful quality.

Recently, I decided to try another looper and bought the Jamman Stereo looper. The solid metal construction is great. The sound quality is good and the loop playback levels were consistent which allowed me to keep both hands on the guitar uninterrupted.

The only ding I have to give this pedal is the not having the option to dial in an exact tempo. The only option you get is by tapping your foot on the pedal.

Overall, so far I have to say this one is a keeper!

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

I love using loopers to write and this one has tons of space for me to record directly onto. so for that its been really good. I had this one recomended to me from a friend over the boss re-20 because of the storage capability. I like it
I use this for filling in sound in a live setting or when I'm trying to write music, I've had it for about 1 year. It took me a while to get use to all its functions. But once you get a hold of it its a breeze... I haven't really used the software with it enough to comment on it so far I have no need to download my own loops into it. i
solid build. nice metal casing. haven't had any issues with it not working. I usually only have it at home for writing. But like i said its fairly well built if youre not too hard on your pedals

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

With the exception of the noisy switches I would have given this amazing unit the highest marks. However, the software is DEFINETLY NOT ready for release. Buggy, unstable, prone to deleting your work and WAY too short on the kinds of features that would allow this product to deliver on its promise. Ratings: Software - worst I've seen in a long time = zero! Box - fantastic, except switches = 4

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

After extensive research while looking to upgrade my Boomerang I, I settled on this thinking I could use the XLR-mic and instrument inputs at the same time. However, after reading the manual again, it appears it's "one or the other" only?? The manual does not say, which is a glaring omission! For live guitar performers, this does not appear to be as practical/adaptible for live performance as a 'rang. Cool that you can store the equivalent of a band in a can, but I like to create my loops live anyway- not bring a bunch of midi files and "cheat." Even with stereo output, how good are the drums and bass going to sound, even into a couple PA channels? Then, how do you route the guitar signal? Okay for simple acoustic guitar and band-in-a-can, I guess. It is very compact, which is a plus. The footswitches feel like they will not last (made in china). The buttons and readouts are too small to see/read/use on a live stage. I can't say anything about sound quality because I did not want to plug it in once I got it, realizing that I would want to exchange it for a Boomerang III immediately. I've had my 'rang I for 6 years with no problems, so I'm going with the sure thing that I know how to use. The 'rang III appears to be better for live performing loopers. Even my old 'rang I is better for live than this. The live demonstration from the boomerang site sold me. Sending the jamman back. Too complicated for my taste.

I love my DigiTech Jamman Stereo. That is, until it became dead in the water. I use an SD card to record backing tracks with which to practice. All worked well for several years, until now. I upgraded my computer to Windows 10 in July, 2015. Last month I needed to rebuild the SD card and low and behold, DigiTech doesn't support Windows 10 (or some versions of Mac also). I'm stuck with a partially unusable device (it still records loops, but I can't communicate with it at all). PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS UNTIL DigiTech gets their act together. You would think they could fix the problem in 5 months.

right out of the box, the unit that was shipped to me was faulty. Aside from the amp hum even with premium cables, this unit cannot keep steady rhythm after a couple of minutes, the foot switches hang up, and now the unit cuts itself off for six seconds, then displays the current rhythm number and comes back on, like it is resetting itself. I checked my equipment for problems and found none.

Comments about DigiTech JML2 JamMan Stereo Looper and Phrase Sampler Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a great, robust looper with a lot of features and lots of storage capacity. The stereo features make for a very useful tool. However, the foot-switches are LOUD. They aren't like a typical metal toggle switch, they have a noticeable and intense CLICK which affects subtle performances with acoustic instruments or mics. If you're doing loud stuff that's amped, this is of course a non-issue, but when you're doing home recording or a more intimate, smaller performance, these switches are noticeably and annoyingly loud. If the switches were silent, this would be approaching perfection in loopers.

Because you consider yourself a professional musician, does not mean you are a computer professional and know all the ins and outs of this device at first glance.

Mine basically sits as I don't really have additional computer software, have had great difficulty with the wav. format and really can't do much more than noodle with it.

I'm sure it's a fantastic device when in the hands of highly computer literate folks and musicains, but it, for the price isn't a stomp to decide to learn on. A bit more simplicity would have been nice.

I already own a Boss RC-2 and an EHX Mulit-Track. Both of these are quite good, the EHX being the more robust of the two. I pulled the trigger on this incarnation of the Jamman for the almost limitless storage capacity via the SD card slot, as well as some of the other features and additional footswiches. The ease of use of this particular box is excellent; no more crouching down to dick around with knob and button conbinations to do what you need to do as on the RC-2. The sound quality is pretty good too; it's on par with the other two boxes mentioned above. File transfer from the card to your PC works as you would expect and although there's been quite a bit of complaining about the software, I don't really know why you would even need it. This thing does what it's intended to do and does it well. Check it out.
