Like I said before it's such a good unit it needs the old sheetmetal case.
So here's a my review. I've been playing on and off proffessionally for 27 years.
This thing has every single feature you will ever need to get everything from melodic metal distortions,to shimmering glassy cleans. I found out setting it up into the clean channel of my peavey transtube 2x12 what I liked eq wise was the mixer/amp switch should always be set to mixer!!! Then you'll need to crank your bottom end on your amp and on the unit becareful with the mids ands highs on the 255's eq section because they're hotter then blazes. I would recomend for guitar using the twin reverb it's a very accurate repesentation of an old spring twin reverb. Getting clean and dirty patches balanced out after you write them will require somewhat of a learning curve, but all these units do. For the price the only reason I'm not giving Digitech a 10 on this one is the things so sweet I think they shoud have put it in a sheet meatal case.
tonyo.
Sheet metal case please.
This is all you'll need live and in the studio.Read the manual ignore the naysayers.

After raking through all the customer reviews and prices, I started toward the Digitech RP255 (against your advice, I know, but it really did cover all the bases). However the gizmo had two serious defects.
First were the two small and barely separated switches. My big-old cowboy boots kept smashing both at once, which sent the device into bypass or tuner mode (Digitech seriously tried to squeeze too much functionality into to few switches).
The more serious design defect was that one switch scrolled up the list of 60 presets and the other scrolled down. I looked in the manual and could find no way of merely assigning one or the other switches to pop in/out of a present. There is no way anyone can scroll through these lists while on stage and find what they need quickly.
This two-switch hell is also manifested in getting out of the looper. The combination of pressing/holding the left switch to stop, clear and exit the looper is non-intuitive and clumsy.
Shame is that the rig sounds great. I plugged a Martin internal miced acoustic and was able to get lead sounds I expect from my Strat and a Marshal stack. The selection of amps, cabinets and effects are wide and the sounds are high quality. I suspect I can get what I want with the RP500, but Im not willing to spend the money.
Good effects, modeling.
A little flimsy feeling - not for serious performance work.
Good price/feature mix if you are not on stage (home, recording, etc).

Comments about DigiTech RP255 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:
I have had so much fun with my RP255! It may not be something you would use for live performances due to the slower switching compared to more expensive stomp boxes and somewhat "plasticky" build, but dollar for dollar you'd be hard pressed to find more features in a single unit. If nothing else it inspires you to play, to explore and mainly to just have fun and isn't that what playing is all about! Worth every penny...

Comments about DigiTech RP255 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:
This is a great pedal for the money. I have been more then pleased with it. This pedal hooks to my laptop perfect. Recording at home with this is real easy. Sound level going into the PC is well balanced. I have used this pedal in performance on alot of shows. It performed great. This pedal is fun to create sounds and even learn about vintage amps. The amp models on this are spot on. They sound awsome. With this pedal it's like having a stack of vintage amps behind you to select from. It seems you can creat any guitar sound know to man with this. I have had this pedal for about 9 months. Can't say enough good things about it.

I love this thing, great effects, great price, great sounds!!!!!!!
Now that being said, I read the owners manual,4TIMES before i got it.
My BEST SUGGESTION is,if you'r gonna buy one do the same. When it comes you'll know
what there talking about, and save alot of time and frustration. (it's not hard to run, BUT you gotta KNOW HOW )........Great service from M.F. as usual great support from Digitech!!!!!!!!
Comments about DigiTech RP255 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:
I am worship leader in the band I'm in, and I sing and play acoustic and electric. For what I do the pedal is AMAZING!! I probably wouldn't suggest it for someone who is constantly changing effects, such as a lead guitarist, because of there only being two buttons, but if you only use about 3 or so effects in one song then its great.
With me playing both acoustic and electric I had to find a pedal that sounded great with both instruments, which was a challenge, but this one is great. It has a plethora of effects for electric and what makes me extremely happy about the pedal is that it has an AWESOME sounding acoustic setting. The factory setting is great, but with just a few tweaks then you can take a cheaper guitar and make it sound like a Taylor or Martin(such is my case).
If you are looking for a great pedal for an even better price then this is definitely the one!! Unless you just want to look all big and bad or you are someone that uses several effects in one song then I wouldn't suggest wasting money on a bigger pedal. I've had lots of people come up to me and ask several questions about my pedal and say they wish they had it. This pedal is great!!
It has a great vast of effects to choose from. If you can't find the right sound then you aren't trying hard enough or don't know how to use the pedal. It has great customization, and is easy to use. Just about any sound is possible using this pedal. I like how the buttons do not make loud clicking noises when you use them. The expression pedal's movement is just right; not too hard, yet not too soft. The looper is really fun to mess around with. The built in tuner is a great thing to have and works great. It has two outputs with I havent really gotten the chance to use but it seems like it would be good. The ability to change the sound output to be safe for an amp or mixer is great. Sound people love that because it wont mess up their boards. The pedal has great features.
When you hold it you can tell it's constructed from sturdy materials, not because it's heavy but because it feels solid. The knobs don't fall apart after a little usage, nor does any other part. I'm only giving it a 9 because I've only had it for about 5 months or so, though I have used it A LOT in that time period, but I havent had it quite long enough for a great test in my opinion. But I think it will last.
Compared to other pedals with the same capability, it's is DIRT CHEAP.
Comments about DigiTech RP255 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:
Well havn't got the opportunity to test the water only had it for a few weeks but I have faith in this pedal I did have a Zoom 505II but this blows it a way, the only dislike I have is the UPS delivered it to wrong place so they had to resend it... but rather then that I like this pedal.
Well I was do for a new pedal, and by reading the reviews and listning to samples on youtube sounded pretty good. Well I received it and it was like Christmas for me all over again, was a little confused at first but after reading the manual and doing a little twicking around actually it is simple to operate. Sunds good, feels right good peadal for the price....
Well construction seems to be sturdy, expression pedal seems to work fine, the overall quality of this pedal is very well built and the sound quality is great. There was thought when they created this pedal....
149.99 ??? is a know brainer
