For years I always used my WH4 and I didn't realize that it could be so much better. I would try and use the WH4 and try to literally like it! I didn't get it as to why it sounded so poor until I read up on the Whammy Models histories through forums and other people who laid it out for me. Then each time I would end up putting it back in it's box. I gave the WH4 bad reviews and complained to Digitech for leaving a WH1 and leaving us with a WH4! They came forward and answered my complaint with answers suggestions and facts with at least some understanding of the situation as they knew about it. So I tried this DT and am very pleased to say the least. I think I will look into getting the Footswitch for it. I also wonder if the WH1s I see on Fleabay going for $400.00 to $600.00 bucks are really new DT owners who now have no use for their WH1s? Now finally I can blow up stuff like Dime or play some melodies using the pitch shift the way Satch uses it. Not to compare myself with their achievements but you get my drift. To me,...this DT is a blast!
This DT Whammy has "True Bypass" The ability to Pitch shift whole chords even! A momentary contact switch for the Drop Tune Mode if desired. A external foot switch outlet for foot switching the different levels of Drop Tuning.....some very cool features in it's MIDI department as well just skimming through the Owners manual. Appears to have more features than any Whammy Digitech ever produced.
This is what used to be the problem in my WH4! Quality being tone and effect sound! I never knew the differences between the WH4 and the earlier sought after WH1s until I purchased a WH4 and learned the ropes of the Whammy regarding the reality from the WH1 that Dime and guys like Satch / Vai owned and made very popular. I tried to calibrate my WH4 many times and it wasn't until I complained to Digitech about it's poor performance going out of pitch!! and grumbled all up sound that I was taught by Digitech tech support how to properly calibrate a WH4 as they said that it's owners manual wasn't too clear on a few things. Then Digitech suggested their new DT model. I asked them if this was the same ole junk that would not produced the simple desired results that we rock N rollers want to get with that clean warm High Pitch Dime squeal action!? the quickly assured me that it was superior quality and that I could even pitch squeal whole chord and multiple note paterns! This started to get my attention. I also noticed the DT's cool vintage looks with it's pedal too in the cosmetic department, but my main concern would be how it would sound and feel. So I took a chance and bought this thinking that if it didn't produce I could not go wrong here with Musicians Friend and I could then email this guy back and tell him he was a liar right?! Well... it arrived and I took it for a quick test drive through my two EVH 5150IIIs and my large beautiful set up. Without calibrating anything I about fell out of my chair. With never owning a WH1 but only hearing about their long lost warmth in the Whammy World, I about dropped a load at this things quality and true bypass as I jammed around and hit the pedal to blow up notes and sound... and what did that dude tell me? Whole chords?... lets see... Yup Yup... whole chords blowing up nice and clean and warm sounding as opposed to being or throwing my guitar off pitch and sounding too wet or like doubled up junked! It is so decent and refreshing after struggles with my WH4, it did put a smile on my face in the Pitch department. And I also didn't even want this thing for Drop tunning modes. I didn't believe in that mode through a pedal effect probably because I come from the 70s and have never experienced an electronic effect that could convince me to use as opposed to another guitar tuned down for a given situation in the tuning department. All I can say is "Wow" when I checked this mode out. I will use this! I only wish it would drop tune certain strings as opposed to the whole guitar for multiple tunings but I realize this is pushing it....According to the DT's manual it will use an FS3X Footswitch conncected so it will let me then choose which Whammy and drop tune effects are selected when my hands are full of guitar. man I give this puppy a 10+
What can I say. I value this DT as a Keeper for life. Hope it never dies. Hope Digitech never stops making it or supporting it if it breaks. If they do leave it behind like the ole WH1s their value will only increase.

Its a great pedal in theory but it has its cons--
      - it's a tone killer it wrecks your tone not to mention that it is NOT true bypass your signal will be dead if you unpluged the power source.
-it's big like really BIG the thing is huge it's like 3 wah pedals big so it takes up like 1/3 of my pedal board
      - it doesnt like other power sources to much. some work fine on it but on my pedal board SKB-ps45 if use the standard pwer it wont work it'll light up but wont work you have to use the outlet and it power supply thats given to you.
-constant recalibrating its really anoying when u try to use a whammy in the middle of the song and it neded to be recalibrated dont get me wrong its never been on and decided to not work all of sudden but i turn it on and it'll need to be recalibrated.
Well not that im done bashing it does do what it says and pitch shifts and tracks very well and theres no latency with monentary switch and on low shifts the tone killer isn't as noticable
The features are great no real latency that i noticed and it has tons of features that do of neat things.
I have to recalibrate it all the time and that gets really annoying. and I've only had this thing for a couple months and the lights are going out on me half the time but not all of them just some of them and ramdomly at that some days its the oct up light other day its a harmony light and somtimes they all work. As much as i complain these are slightly smaller issues and i dont think the pedal itslef will break any time soon seeing as how tankish it is.
Its expensive really expensive it's my most expensive pedal that i own and thats saying something.

The whammy part was a joke as was the rest of it. Changed the tone of my guitar using the drop tune side and the more steps I got away from natural the worse it got. Save your money, not worth it!!!

I bought this pedal for the left side. The harmony and wah effects are amazing. I also bought this item in restock, which was basically brand new and saved me 100 bucks! What really impressed me was the drop tune effects. I play a wide variety of tunings and with this pedal I really only use two guitars now. One in standard tuning, the other in drop D. I recommend this to any guitar player who really wants to try new tricks and make cool sounds. Fun to play covers of Rage Against the Machine with!

I've been playing guitar for 20 years and I'm a big fan of U2 and Van Halen. Unfortunately, they both play in E flat on almost all their songs. So I've either had 2 guitars in different tunings (since I love having a Floyd Rose) or tried other measures. I bought a new Tyler Variax which is okay but it's the same as a real pickup guitar. I've also tried the morpheus pedal which to me was a disaster. I just got the Whammy Pedal DT today and no warble sound or change in tone when using the detuner.

Comments about DigiTech Whammy DTV-01 Drop Tune Guitar Effects Pedal:

I love this pedal so much. It has replaced any need for any drop tuning, capos, whammy bars, harmonizers, chorus effects, 12 strings, and even basses.

The only thing I wish it has was an Auto-Return feature like the Cry Baby 95Q. It's a hassle when you just want to have a quick bend of a note and have to hit a switch next to the pedal before starting. You could say I could just keep it in the heel position, but when rocked back all the way it kills some of your low end and compresses your sound. You have to try it out yourself. I would just keep it on all the time if it weren't sucking your tone out. That would be solved by an Auto-Return feature because it would turn off once you let your foot off. That's one mod I would make, another having the Drop Tune/Capo on the left side of the pedal. My favorite crazy sound is going on the 2 octave up setting and bending natural harmonics while hitting the momentary switch on the DT side an octave down for some really crazy sounds when you pair it with fuzz/heavy distortion. However, I have to switch to my left foot on the expression pedal in order to do that, and personally, I would like to keep my right foot on the exp. at all times. I would make modifications, but otherwise, this is an amazing pedal. It's an instrument all on its own.

                Needs a ton of work!!

Comments about DigiTech Whammy DTV-01 Drop Tune Guitar Effects Pedal:

I always wanted a whammy pedal and I use a Morpheus Drop Tune pedal for down tuning songs. I figured the DT was the answer to my prayers and would clean up my pedal board. WRONG!!!
After a few bad units, I finally got a unit that work properly. I was very disappointed in the latency of the DropTune portion of the pedal. The Morpheus does drop tuning 100x better with almost no latency. The whammy side is what it is. A cool effect for when it's needed but not something I would use too much. After selling my Morpheus pedal to buy the whammy DT, I was very dissapointed in the whammy. I returned it and rebought a Morpheus. If a whammy is what you want.. Buy the regular version of the whammy. If you want a drop tune pedal, buy a Morpheus DropTune. TRUST ME!! a
The features are great ... If they worked better.
I bought 2 units. The first one had a broken on/off pot on the whammy side. The second had a bad momentary pot.
This price is crazy for something that is so eaten down.

                massive power required

Comments about DigiTech Whammy DTV-01 Drop Tune Guitar Effects Pedal:

Though I think this pedal needs serious upgrades in sound and power technology, I do admire digitech for making some stuff in America.
The feature set is like a dream on paper. I got this because I thought morpheus was a ripoff not putting both capo and droptune in the same unit- then here comes this one with everything! I thought they would surely put morpheus out of business... but they won't. Read on.
built sturdy and I never had any of the "calibration" issues I've heard of with the regular whammy models past. Quality of construction: excellent.
Quality of sound: not so great. No matter what you do with fast chips, there will always be a latency effect with this type of gizmo. However, the TONE- the tone is weakened, and the volume and sustain both drop noticeably to varying degrees, depending on how far you are bending the original note or notes. I wanted this for mainly for a virtual capo, but using a regular capo is easier than dealing with its technical and power limitations. Like so many digitech products, this thing takes 1300 miliamps of power- that is the entire amount of the highest power supplies. It basically needs its own outlet and wallwort, and the digitech wallwort is kind of underbuilt for the road. I already use (and swear by) the digitech vocalist live IV, and I just don't have anymore outlets to spare. C'mon, digitech- can't you make something with a little less power draw, like Boss does?
As for the harmonizer features- not intelligent, so kinda gimmicky there. In fact, this whole thing is kinda gimmicky, and the huge decrease in sound quallity made it not worth it for me.

This is by far the best whammy pedal yet. Way better than the Whammy 4. I never have to recalibrate the whammy DT and it is built like a tank. I also love the seperate drop tune feature that allows you to drop tune your guitar and use the whammy at the same time. Best pedal in my chain!
Built like a tank and never gives me any problems.
Cost more than the Whammy 4 but it is a much nicer pedal and very durable. It is worth paying the extra $$$

Comments about DigiTech Whammy DTV-01 Drop Tune Guitar Effects Pedal:

By the Morpheus and a true bypass pedal to switch it in and out of your pedal single path. It sounds better. But if ou need the features of the bomber and the drop tune the digitech is a good pedal, but it is very large and takes a huge foot print on your pedal board
All this stuff in one pedal. Tones of options
Sound quality is a 3. Not true bypass first of if you pull the power cord your single is dead. Second it colored my sound and I could tell some of the distortion was lost as the single tone was changed. Don't get me wrong the drop tune pedal by Morpheus is not rue by bass either.
