I bought this pedal at a pawn shop for 7 just cause they thought it was defective. I took a gamble and it paid off. Your getting multiple distortion or overdrive tones in 1 pedal which could make gigging easier and your pedal board a little lighter. Every pedal it imitates it is almost spot on except the rat pro and ds1. I know you'll think I am crazy but it actually sounds better than the rat pro and ds1. As far as overdrive or distortion goes this is one of the most versitile and best sounding pedals I have used and I own a TS 9, blues screamer, bigmuff, rat pro co, mod tone speedbox and have tried a ds1. I can consider myself very lucky to have stumbled on a great pedal at an insane price. I use this with a jag master dual HB guitar and an American strat and get an array of great tones. Sounds really good through a blues Jr or through a 4x12. At retail this is still a great deal cause this pedal does not sound like cheap digital interpretation of great distortion tones but like real full tones. The case is rugged the knobs feel a little cheap but all peddles nowadays use cheap plastic knobs. If you play blues, rock, country or anything I would say this pedal is a must.

This pedal is far from stageworthy. it kills a 9 volt battery in less than 15 minutes. there have been several times that i have been playing a set and it died right there causing a lot of feedback through all of the monitors. If you are thinking about buying this pedal, i recommend buying a boss od-20 instead. it has multiple distortions and doesn't eat batteries like candie or blow monitors!

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

i play in an alt rock band and i use this with my marshall hdfx100 and it sounds amazing! i love that punchy, thick sound and this pedal definitely gives it to me. i am about to buy a valveking 100 head, so im not sure if ill be using this pedal anymore, but for what i play now, it is perfect. i have a hot seymour duncan in the bridge of my epiphone les paul standard and it created tons of feedback, but that is fixable if you turn the gain to a little over halfway and turn the tone to the same place. im still not sure if it was the pedal or amp that made the feedback, but if you want to buy this thing, keep that in mind

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

I bought this guitar pedal about five years ago while I was in high school. I was in a small band lead by my guitar teacher and needed something to put in front of the Fender Twin-Reverb that was provided. At the time I had a small 12" Roland Cube which was a modeling amp so I didn't feel the need to get any pedals, especially with my budget. I got this pedal used from my local guitar shop, deciding to take a chance. From the first time I plugged it in, I have been impressed with its excellent tone, boost, and ability to go from a high distortion GN'R sound, to a bluesy overdrive, to a low grungy punch. Five years later I have gone through a few other distortion pedals but I keep coming back to this one. It still resides on my pedal board in front of my Marshall. My model is a little bit older, it says, "Hot Rod - Rock Distortion" but other than that the pedal still looks the same. I highly recommend this pedal, especially if you are on a budget. I would also recommend getting a power supply as this pedal drains batteries very quickly.

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

I was looking for a good rock distortion pedal. Something between a blues driver and a metal distortion. This one fits beautifully. It has the morph function that has a pretty wide range of tones and helps dial in the sound you are looking for. No it is not a boutique pedal but is it as good? For the price you can try it and decide for yourself.

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

HOT ROD! You think RED, right? It looks red in the picture, but it's more like a metallic wine color. Ultimately, that doesn't matter, but it disappointed me. And this thing has an estimated 4 hour battery life...whether it's actually turned on or not. Just plugging in your guitar cable starts the countdown. That won't matter if you use a power supply, but I like to throw a couple of pedals in my bag, use them when needed, and not have to worry about changing a battery after every practice or two. On the upside, this pedal had two really good points. First, it sounds AWESOME! You really have a lot of tonal variation available...more than any pedal I've ever used. Second, it has a simulated speaker output. You can plug straight into a PA (or DI) or a recording interface and dial in a pretty good distorted sound. This is great live or for demos.

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

I picked this up on The Stupid Deal of the Day, and I'm FAR from dissappointed. I use distortion sparingly, so it really means something when I do. This distortion is not only nasty, but, with the Morph X, you can feel it move your guts around. Like you feel a sub drop and bass drum, you can feel the sound of your guitar!

Comments about DigiTech XHR Hot Rod Distortion Pedal:

This is by far my favorite pedal.

I got one back in 2005, and proceeded to use it so much, i wore out the bypass switch. it still works (sort of), but i ended up retiring it, and got another one....

it's very versitile, can dial in pretty much any sound you need, and if you need more, just put a boost in front of it, and hold on tight.

I rarely use it with a battery, so i can't comment on battery life, but i can say, the battery access is the best. use cable end to pop the top off. no need for tools, or to remove the pedal from your board...

I am so happy to see they are still selling this.
when the time comes, i will get a third one without hesitation

I got this pedal for Christmas, so I couldnt wait 2 try it out. I have a small fender frontman 15 watt amp, and it has an ok drive channel. I plugged this in and I saw a drastic improvement in sound quality. It can morph through some different distortion types, from classic rock overdrive, to some chonky metal tones. I admit I expected it to have a better metal distortion, but a great pedal nonetheless.

this pedal has it all. i played my first show using this and it wasnt a dissappointing choice. i now use the distortion off of my line 6 spider II amp but im still keeping the hot rod because its untouchable against all other rock distortion pedals. its even replaced both my processors, and i look forward to bringing it back to my main distortion soon. simply put, this is the best effects pedal ive ever owned

I bought this pedal and after half an hour of playing it just turned off and wouldn't turn on again. Took it at the guitar center and they gave me a new one. Also, it did the same problem. Seems the battery system was broken. Now i always play with the adapter. Also, it makes a lot of loud noise even with the guitar volume zeroed. The morph option is not bad.

this pedal really covers all bases. it's the first pedal i have ever owned, but I have tried my friends and i have come tho the conclusion that this pedal can do blues, rock punk rock, and even a little fuzz. the only thing it doesn't have is loud screaming like the Boss DS-1 or DOD death metal, but i plan to keep forever. the only design flaw is that your cord can get under the moving pedal part and not let it go down.
