I have had this pedal for a few years now. The sample settings in the booklet are a little excessive for my taste. I think a lot of people may be turned off by the heavy compression sounds that this thing is capable of, but it is possible to turn the parameters down. The wide range of the parameters, along with the ability to moderate them, makes this a great pedal to have for many different reasons. For good compression of picking dynamics, I just resort to more subtle versions of the ones listed in the DigiTech booklet. For more freaky sounds, I crank up the "sustain" and run it after a metal-type of distortion. It makes each held-out note gradually fade into static. Sometimes, I use this pedal as a booster, so I get a clean volume jump to push my tube amp, and on top I can add bits of volume dynamics.

I got this pedal for free when I bought a guitar. Tried it out for a bit in my board but ultimately got rid of it. It's not that bad, but just not that great either. Adds a noticeable but manageable amount of noise to your signal, especially when you turn that sustain up above halfway. Tried recording with it and the buzz was just too much. It also sucked a lot of tone out of my signal, and seemed like I couldn't ever dial in the right setting to get more tone but still have worthwhile compression. Even with the EQ knob. It affected my signal a ton of different ways as I switched drive channels, added effects, etc. My volume was never consistent enough. I just got an Akai custom compressor from a Stupid Deal of the Day on a whim, and the results are night and day. Everything I complained about above was gone. I would spend a little more money and get something else.

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

I loved my when I had it, but my only complaint was that the small piece of rubber that links up with the trigger broke off after only ten weeks or so of use. I'm going to have to purchase a new one.

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

I had this pedal for a little while, used it at several gigs before I got rid of it. It says it has dbx compression, which my band also uses along with our PA. To be completely honest, it's not worth the money. You can hardly notice any difference with this pedal, even at the most extreme settings. First off, it does add a little spice to your clean and does sustain notes well. Never ever use this pedal when you are kicked into overdrive, it makes your sound weaker and doesnt do much to improve anything for that matter.

Need that Expert New Country Guitar Sound

By David Morton

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

I bought this after reading the reviews on it. For the price, it does what it say! The first time I used it my bandmates all commented on how big it made my guitar sound. I have to agree - it's an awesome device for a small budget. I would highly recommend it.
This device has everything it says it has.
Does the job.
Super value for such a device!

Works on stage.

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

I'm a 70's rocker playing country now. You know the guy in the sneakers with the Les Paul who stays out of the way for two sets then rocks out for the last two.I almost took this pedal back 'cause its not much with just guitar alone and it spit out a new Duracell coppertop in three days of casual use...gotta use a 9v adapter with this one. Anyway, I'm plugged into a Roland Cube 60, with one 12" extension speaker, and I need something to help with the clean sound, to control dynamics and add sustain. The MainSqueeze helped me find my place in the mix and gave me the sustain I was looking for. Especially helpful for the clean sound I need during the first two sets but I left it on all night. I use the "Classic Stack" setting on the Roland for distortion. I tweaked the settings on the MainSqueeze as I went.I didn't have any noise issues. It seems to have a kind of noise gate built in. Dead silent just sitting there, then you brush the strings and you hear some noise and hiss. Wasn't an issue with me but I don't play that loud or use extreme distortion.

Great Pedal

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

This is my first compressor pedal and I've found it's quite a valuable tool on my pedal board. It really tightens up the signal when i play with distortion and lets me ring out notes evenly and smoothly. I like it most when I'm playing clean. I have a nasty picking habbit - I have a problem consistantly picking with the same force so the volume jumps up and down alot. It's especially noticeable when playing clean. The compressor evens out my input signal so if I accidentally pick a note harder than the rest it still comes out of the amp sounding smooth and consistant. And like all Digitech pedals it has a rugged casing and sensitive knobs that you can tweak for hours getting different sounds. Great buy!

It works well, but not for me

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

I like to play all kind of metal and all of my favorite guitarists use compression to even out their signal. My only problem was when I used it with distortion, it created serious feedback. It wasn't my other equiptment because it all worked fine. It all good as long as you don't use it with distortion.

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

To me this pedal worked fine. I gave a seven for quality because it gave a lot a feedback when I used it with distortion. Then I got a noise suppressor and used it with the distortion and it worked perfectly. This pedal rocks but I suggest getting a nooise suppressor with it.

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

This is the best sustainer/compressor pedal I've ever got. I didn't like Boss CS blue box because It's different from dbx studio quality rack. This DIgitech Squeezer is like dbx. I just want to complain about bad naming.

Everything you want in the only effect you really need. my only reservation is the battery life, 4 hours. But that seems to be the price of processing power.

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

I would keep the sustain low if you like metal, because it pumps out a lot of feed back when you have the distortion on. Other than that it does the job.

Good but has its draw backs

By Hunger

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

I've had this pedal in my set up for a while now and have used it with both solid state and tube amplifiers. Currently I have the B52 AT100 with the stealth 4x12 along with a custom Dean 7 string with active EMG's. The compressor does add attack and clarity as well as fairly good sustain. It really does alot for clean tones which is great but the downside is that it adds alot of noise to the signal especially on the OD channel. It's even too much for my Boss NS-2 to handle. I end up having to turn the sustain level way down to where it's barely doing more than my pickups would without it. I'm going to be trying the BBE Sonic Stomp to replace it. It is a good pedal if you play mostly clean though.

Comments about DigiTech XMS Main Squeeze Compressor/Sustainer Pedal:

I have stayed clear of using pedals for most of my playing carrier (over 40 years), but after installing a Fernandes FSK-101 Sustainer kit and getting the same results as most other guys: Too much sustain on adjacent strings which makes the whole experience a joke, I decided to go ahead and try this compressor out and am very happy with the results. I play mostly clean (jazz, blues, rock) and this unit gives me at least twice the sustain as I would normally get without any pedals.
