Ok, I got this because I like to cover Pink Floyd and believe me it does that and more. Well worth every penny.
This is without a doubt the best compressor pedal out there. I've tried a few different ones and this is still my favorite. Isn't as "slappy" as some compressors but what I want is the smoothing of tones and lengthening of sustain and that's what it does. Buy one before it goes out of production.
I use a Peavey Valveking 112 and a vintage Epiphone Crestwood. When I use this compressor on the clean channel with the attack all the way down, it gives that great "chicken pickin'" sound, very good for classic rock. When the attack is turned all the way up, it gives you great sustain and a hint of overdrive that makes a perfect blues guitar sound, a la B.B. King. When you use this compressor in front of a dirty amp, you get sustain for days. It's incredible, though some players may find it too much. I do not have problems with noise unless I use it with a lot of distortion, and that noise would probably be easily handled with a noise suppressor. I also use this pedal for bass guitar, giving me a tremendous sound. When recording, I even use it for applications other than guitar, such as vocals and drums (I'm too poor to afford a real pre-amp with compression) and I get a great sound. The only downside to this pedal is that there is not much room for tweaking, or at least the sound is not different enough for me to care. Basically I always put compression all the way up, then the attack either all the way up or all the way down, adjust the hi-exp until hiss is gone, and then put the level where it sounds good. Overall, for the price, it's a great pedal.
I didn't like this compressor at first, but then when I learned how to use it for distortion it made me happy. Using it on a clean amp and then turning the gain up gives a very warm distortion (well, it can also give a really grungy distortion also, if you want it). It's a little noisy, but all compression pedals will increase the noise, so a noise gate might be handy; though I've been using it with a clean amp (and on a really noisy Silvertone guitar) and it doesn't bother me much. Using it on a dirty amp or with a distortion pedal makes for so much extra noise that you pretty much need a noise gate. For just a clean tone, it works great as well, and levels everything out nicely (as it should). It's also fun for the bass, and can give that extra punch that we all crave.I haven't used any other compression pedals, so I can't give a comparison (I have used on-board amp-compression, though, and the pedal is better by far), though I think it's safe to say that this pedal is worth the money, if you take the time to learn what it can do for you.
It does the job for a compressor. The compression, however creates alot of noise, espscially when turned all the way up. The HI EXP knob is useless and only tends to create annoying nuances, so keep it turned down. With a noise suppressor it can be certainly used on stage. Besides the noise, it is a fairly decent pedal for the price.
I have used this compressor for a few years now. I have found it to be very quiet and transparent (after you adjust the hi exp). I don't know what people are talking about noisy. If your guitar already has a shielding or wiring problem, this will certainly push that to the front. The level knob is very touchy so I find it good to get the level even on and off then leave it alone. I don't need to change settings on the fly anyway. I have practiced and gigged with this box with no problems.
This pedal does exactly what I wanted it to do: give each note a nice, clean edge. It really dampens the extra noise before and after single notes, and the tone control can give back the high end that would otherwise get cut.The down side is the sustain is lacking, and it's very noisy when the compression setting is high. If you need a lot of compression, plan on investing in a noise gate too.
This effect is a nearly perfect compressor. It produces a lot of sustain with almost no undersireable artifacts. Everything works like it should. No funny "breathing" sounds, or funny pick pops. At one end of the attack range, there is almost no pick sound at all. At the other end, the pick sound is pretty normal and their is the impression of a lot of dynamics, only with sustain. The quality of the box is very good. A tremendous effect regardless of price - at the price offered it is unbeatable. Makes my guitars absolutely sing
I got this milk box a couple months ago for a great price. I'm happy with the tone I get out of it. It beefs up the bottom end and gain of my Roland VGA-3 without mudding out.
This pedal is really nice, especially for the price. I bought this pedal and a TS808 the same day. Of course they are different pedals and different companies but the Milk Box will you give you a sweet fat tone. I have it running through my stratocaster and Fender 65 reissue tube amp. I would recommend this pedal to those who are looking for the sound that they havent quite got yet. 100% satisfaction here.
