OVERVIEW

The latest incarnation of one of the first phasers to ever hit the market.

One of the first phaser effect pedals ever made, the original DOD Phasor 201, blazed the trail for all phaser pedals after it. The new DOD Phasor 201 (2013) brings the classic analog phaser effect driven by 40+ years of tone-creating experience. The new 2013 DOD Phasor 201 is better than ever before, with true bypass, a crisp blue LED indicator, and modern 9V DC power supply input. Redesigned with a lighter aluminum chassis, sleek blue metallic flake and flat black matte bottom paint job, the 2013 DOD Phasor 201 pedal is a refined take on classic phasing effects, with an incredible new look.

The operation of the 2013 DOD Phasor 201 is pure simplicity. Like the original, the Speed knob controls the depth and speed of the phasing effect, with great tone at any range. True bypass allows your guitar tone to remain pristine even when the DOD Phasor 201 (2013) is off. This is a big difference from the original which would color your bypassed tone. The modern 9V DC power supply input make the pedal more pedal board friendly.

I bought this last week when it was on the Stupid Deal of the Day, so needless to say it was very convenient. Since there isn't a volume knob, the phaser perfectly balances out with the amp's volume. The effect is very subtle but also very noticeable at the same and I absolutely love it. I play a lot Incubus, which consists of a lot of phaser, flanger, distortion, etc so I am very much in love with this pedal as well as DOD in general. With that said, I bought myself a DOD Overdrive pedal. Back on the subject, I strongly recommend this pedal and if you have the money for it, then you should purchase it, but if Musician's Friend puts it back as the Stupid Deal of the Day, it's a no-brainer. Also delivered to me within 2-3 business days. Great transaction from both DOD and Musician's Friend.

Pros:
- This phasor sounds quite good. It produces nice chewy phasey goodness, but is still warm and mellow enough that it never wears out its welcome. It also pairs well with fuzz and overdrive, and has a perfectly set level. A lot of phasors tend to really take over your sound when you switch them on, and can sound fake, or just not really integrated into your core guitar sound. This one melds nicely with the sound you already have.

- The range of the speed knob is good enough for most applications, although I sometimes wish it could go a little bit slower.

- For a one knob pedal, the depth is set nicely. You definitely will know it's there, but it does not get out of hand.

Cons:
- The enclosure is bigger than you expect. It is not MXR box sized, but about 1/4"-1/2" larger on all sides (and is also deeper/higher).

- Within a week of buying this, the output jack nut fell off. A quick inspections shows that the nut is plastic, and had already stripped. It is clear from the build quality that this will break again soon even if I got a replacement. I can jam it back on and it will still work, but all in all this is extremely lame. For the price I could definitely find a better quality phasor (e.g. the several options from EHX).

Bottom line: Unless you absolutely have to have the DOD 201 sound, I would look elsewhere.

Comments about DOD Phasor 201 Analog Phaser/Pitch Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:

Its sweep is very nice, the rate is perfect from slowest to fast as all points are usable. Overall sits well in a mix though might be a bit subtle for some. Its just what i was looking for as i ditched a block logo MXR Phase 90 a while back for being too bleh. This instead is just the right intensity and resonance. Best phaser ive used and ive had a good couple including Small Stone original from 1980.

Comments about DOD Phasor 201 Analog Phaser/Pitch Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:

The first thing I noticed when I handled this pedal was paint smear blemishes on the top and sides. Kind of a bummer, but that obviously has no impact on the functionality. The phasing on this pedal is bit more subtle compared to some of the others that I've tried. Because of this, I find it to be very useable anywhere between minimal and maximum speed settings. This pedal also darkens my tone a bit, but plays well with my other pedals, especially distortion. I give it 4 out of 5 stars due to the shoddy paint finish.

Comments about DOD Phasor 201 Analog Phaser/Pitch Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:

The DOD Phasor 201 Reissue offers a GREAT alternative for those players who find the Regeneration sound of most phasors to be too much (that "keeooww" aspect of the sound). The DOD 201 has lower fixed Regen. and provides a smoother, more subtle sound that is much more usable overall than say a Phase 90. It also does a pretty darn good rotating speaker sound when the speed is near maxed. I bought one on sale, got it, then went back and bought a second one! If you want a phasor that will add smoother textures to your sound, this one is hard to beat. True bypass is offered. BTW - the pedal when in phasor mode, does darken your signal just a little but I found this to be within an acceptable range. I certainly recommend this pedal to anyone seeking a simple, versatile, somewhat different phase shifter - especially those looking for texture rather than "wacka-wacka" - type sounds.

Comments about DOD Phasor 201 Analog Phaser/Pitch Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:

I like this. It sounds nice and with one knob, it's pretty easy to dial up something pretty quickly. It's not going to get crazy, but I knew that before I bought it. There are always tradeoffs with pedals, but I knew this was not going to get way out there before I bought it. It appears to be built well, which is also a plus. I had an old E-H Small Stone from the 80s that was pretty danged amazing, but I think I was lucky. When I decided to try a phaser again after all these many years, I decided on this one instead of a new E-H reissue on account of reviews citing the no nonsense voicing and perceived durability, and I agree.

Comments about DOD Phasor 201 Analog Phaser/Pitch Shifter Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have owned 3 different phasers and this by far is the best sounding one. It simply sounds right no matter where the dial is, so to me they have optimized the depth/rate ratio perfectly. Nob to extreme right is kinda Leslie-like, usable. But my favorite settings are lowest to about 11:00- great for rhythm or lead. I am happy they reissued this effect with all the modern features. I play a G&L bluesboy to a peavey classic 30, this pedal runs before a keeley fuzz head and a dirty little secret.

This pedal really is a one-trick pony. It delivers a classic, subtle phasing to the instrument, perfect for background coloration. The effect is more evident when strumming, rather than on leads. However, when the effect is on, there IS a slight loss of signal volume and a slight cut in bass. And the LED is almost birght enough to read by, making this pedal a good choice for outdoor gigs.
