Much to my surprise, it sounds good. Nice tone, and it sounds OK right up to 3/4 volume, at which point the little speaker starts to groan. Keep the PRESENCE knob at 1/2, and roll off the BASS and MIDs to keep the speaker from complaining too much. It?s small and light, sounds good plugged in as well as thru the headphones; a big value in a little practice amp (forget about playing with any other amplified instrument ? it will just get overwhelmed, and that is NOT what it is for). Don?t look at this as an upgrade to any amp you got in a value package, but if you?re like me, who started out with a good bass and a big amp, and you are looking for something to practice thru, you can?t go wrong with this.
Got one of these amps last week- sight unseen because no picture or description here then- and I'm very pleased- It's what I hoped- a small black amplifier, that pugs in- 15 watts of power and a 6.5 inch speaker. It's the perfect practice amp- it pumps out some real sound for it's size, but it's still small and lightweight- Unit measures 11" width, 10" height and 6 " depth. It's the normal heavy black amp exterior, with metal edges on the corners and strap ends on top. The exterior fiber extends all the way to the speaker circumference, for strength and minimal mesh on the front. on/off toggle, five knobs on top front (vol, high, mid, low, and prescence reverb) 1/4 inch input and headphone jacks.I wanted a small and light amp for minimal price- This one is plenty loud for me at home and good quality with a 5 year factory warranty.
A manufacturer can provide very good electronics and a decent particleboard case for a low price. However, even a Chinese manufacturer cannot provide a high quality speaker as well.Out of the box, the Drive 15V is more-or-less adequate. One gets what one pays for: very good electronics, a decent case, and a marginal 6.5 inch bass driver. Fortunately, the story doesn't end there.Based upon my previous experience with Drive amps, I ordered a better quality 6.5" 4-ohm speaker when I ordered the Drive 15V. Here's the ticket: Both machines arrived on the same day. A phillips screwdriver, a bit of acoustic insulation, and ten minutes later...I was ready to rock. It's now a very credible little bass amplifier with palpable tone and enough volume to make one's living room walls pulsate. If you buy the Drive 15V alone, you may be disappointed. If you tweak it with a driver upgrade, please be prepared to smile!
This thing sounds pretty good and gets surprisingly loud. For the money you cant beat it. Obviously its nothing special but its a great deal. If you just need a little amp for practice or even relatively low volume jams this little guy will get the job done, as long as it holds up ill be very very happy.
It's an awesome amp for a person low on cash or just being cheap, like myself. But all in allits a great amp, just wish it had a switch for clean and distortion. But what can expect for something that not to loud to play in my room.
