I never needed or understood volume pedals until I started playing at a church regularly -- ambient guitar swells and/or whale sounds are essential in that arena. To be honest, I went straight to this one mostly because my pedal board already has a Crybaby, and since this pedal's body is literally the same, I knew it would fit into my crowded setup, unlike most of these other behemoths. I also like the brick-like solidity of this Dunlop one, and that it features no weird little bits of string in its ingredients (I'm sure the Ernie Ball, etc. are great, there is just something that rubs me the wrong way about a piece of electronics that relies on an actual, honest-to-goodness piece of twine).

My experience with it so far has been great. It's as sturdy as the Crybaby, and has a broader sweep of motion, enabling me to use a certain amount of subtlety in my fade-ins. Other reviewers have mentioned that sometimes this pedal's "off position" isnt' absolute zero -- mine isn't doing that, so maybe it varies. I know there is a hack for fixing that, but I didn't seem to need it.

I can't say I've road-tested it extensively yet but my impression is that this is a simple, no-frills volume pedal that works perfectly for what I need, and looks like it would survive a ten-story drop.

Seriously - this product is totally mislabelled. It is just a plain old volume control, in other words a pot resting sideway so you can move it via a rocker bar. The switch is not even a true bypass!!!In my opinion this volume and most other volumne pedals are highly overpriced because all you get is your guitar's volume control resting sideways in a metal housing.

Comments about Dunlop GCB-80 High Gain Volume Pedal:

Solid pedal. Had two Ernie Ball VPs before this. Strings either broke or the pots went to...well...pot. Tried this on a whim and was very happy. Uses the same tried and true design of the Cry Baby. Would recommend this to anyone. The distance on this (at least in my opinion) isn't quite as far as a VP, but I got used to that. Also, there's no tap out for the tuner, which bothers some, but is alright with me.

Comments about GCB-80 High Gain Volume Pedal:

I have replaced my Cry Baby with this pedal. Same size and same quality. The only issue is that the up and down movement is so easy. It would have been nice if there were an adjustment for the tension.

I considered other pedals of this style. I settled on the Dunlop because I already have a Crybaby and know the quality is there. I was not disappointed with the matching Dunlop volume pedal.

Comments about Dunlop GCB-80 High Gain Volume Pedal:

There is not much to say about this pedal, I mean it is pretty simple to use, turn the volume up and down. I was a little bit concern that it would change the sound of my Strat but my that was not the case. I really love how it's built, its built to last forever. Musician Friend is awesome, they package it well and I got it a day before it was expected to arrive. Overall it i'm very satisfied.

Comments about Dunlop GCB-80 High Gain Volume Pedal:

A simple no frills volume control at your feet. Purely passive, no power source required, which also simplifies things. Since I always just "plug-in & play" without any effects pedals, this volume pedal provides the boost I need for solos and then returns me to normal volume on demand. If that's what you need to do then this is your pedal.

Comments about Dunlop GCB-80 High Gain Volume Pedal:

Great pedal controls the volume from absolute zero to max bit touchy at first but practice makes perfect I put it at the end of my pedal chain so the guitar volume controls the distortion from my pedals this pedal quickly eliminated having to go back and forth to my Marshall dsl100h when changing from clean to distortion no modifications were neccisary to hit absolute zero if the amp is turned up to 10 there is still static noise but I expected that

Comments about Dunlop GCB-80 High Gain Volume Pedal:

I borrowed a friend's Dunlop High Gain many years ago for recording and always wanted one of my own. I finally bought one, and the new version is as good as the old. I don't use it merely for volume control, but mostly for expression, orchestral-swell effects, etc., and it is as responsive with practice as any other and much more reliable.
