A faithful replication of Jimi's famous Octavio.

The Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio effects pedal is an homage to the original artifact that is enshrined at the Experience Music Project. A chipped, off-white, "cheese wedge" pedal with barely visible hand stenciled lettering, Hendrix's original octave divider doesn't look like much. But this is the magic box that produced the unforgettable fuzzed-out octave tones heard on Hendrix anthems such as "Purple Haze" and "Fire."

A team of Dunlop engineers made a pilgrimage to Seattle to dissect and document Jimi's original Octavio—the holy grail of octave tone. The result? The Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio is an exact clone of the amazing "octave up" pedal that Jimi used to make rock history. It's all here: every knob and jack, a DPDT on/off switch, and the exact same circuit layout faithfully copied from the original "breadboard," front-panel controls which let you dial in just the right amount of fuzz and adjust overall level.

    Features

    • Faithful replication of the original Level and Fuzz knobs
    • True bypass switching
    • Welded steel chassis
    • Top-grade UK construction

Own a little piece of Jimi—the Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Octavio.

Comments about Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Limited Edition Octavio 70th Anniversary Tribute Series:

This is a pedal I should have realized would be out-of-control the day I bought it. I have never returned a pedal so quickly! I love Band of Gypsies, like every other guitar nut, and I wanted to get that sound, but after 10 minutes with this pedal I found that I was not meant to be using an octave fuzz pedal. My biggest gripe with this is its lack of a tone knob. Granted, there was never a tone knob with the Octavio (just fuzz and volume), but one would greatly expand the possibilities of this pedal, since it is pretty much in-your-face at most settings. It is trebly beyond belief! I couldn't tame this beast, and I doubt you can either, so unless you want an over-the-top sound that's basically unmanageable, this pedal is probably not for you. Invest elsewhere.

Comments about Dunlop Jimi Hendrix Limited Edition Octavio 70th Anniversary Tribute Series:

I (and I assume most Hendrix fans) love the Octavio effect heard on Hendrix's Band of Gypsies. So I had to get that sound. But after playing with this pedal I soon discovered that there wasn't a spot for it on my pedalboard (or in my playing). True, it nails the sound completely, but it was WAY over-the-top, which I wasn't expecting. In hindsight I wish I had chosen a fuzz pedal with a tone control––this pedal is so bright and in-your-face that it seemed silly––and not very useful. But if you are looking for the Octavio sound, then this is a good way to go, because you have the effect inside a Phase 90 box instead of the larger "cheese wedge." The paint job has little to be desired.
