OVERVIEW

The Hum X Exterminator removes unwanted voltage and current in the ground line that cause ground loop hum. This noise reduction adapter simultaneously maintains a solid, safe ground. Hum X removes the ground loop while leaving the ground and your signal intact. Easy to use and completely effective!

Rids your system of unwanted hum safely .

It's the safest way to get rid of ground loop hum. Order Hum X today!

The Ebtech Hum X does just what its supposed to do - cancels out the (almost always) Laptop AC Ground Loop Hum! Anytime you have a Laptop Computer within your loop/chain/board configuration, you can (almost) always count on having an "AC Hum" which is (almost) ALWAYS caused by the Laptop's external AC direct-connect Power Source/Transformer. Its easy to find out if thats your problem. Simply remove the Laptops external power cable, run the Laptop on its battery power source and "listen" for the hum to go away!!! If it does, then you know you definitely have an AC Ground Loop problem with the external power source.! Simply plug the Ebtec Hum X into your UPS/Regulated Power supply Output jack and then plug the Laptop's external AC cable into the Ebtec Hum X done deal! When ordering up the Ebtec Hum X, dont forget that there could be "other additional power-hum problems that need addressed. If thats the case and you still have other hums, checkout the other tips I have listed elsewhere in this review. Remember, very rarely does one piece of equipment handle everything. Note: DJ's have had this same (Laptop in configuration) problem for years and are amazed how such a simple plug-in device like the Ebtech Hum X eliminates the situation Since Ground Loop Hums seem to always be a problem, one piece of equipment normally does not handle them all. You need to isolate, in your configuration, just what piece of gear/cable is creating the "hum." The first place I would start (and install/place hum unit) would be at the Amplifier using a Dual-Channel type Hum unit (Nady HE1 or Ebtec). Connect the individual Output cables from your Pedal Board/Mixer and Guitar to the Input side of the (Nady HE1 or Ebtech Hum Eliminator) unit; Connect the Output of the (Nady HE1 or Ebtec ) to the Amps Input channels. Note: Make sure you use superior quality grade TS patch/jumper cables for connecting here (Hosa or DiMarzio are great.) Also, don't forget to check your Mixer XLR/Jack connectors for any added "hums" that maybe present. If this is the case, another solution is using the Ebtech HE-2R. This unit will handle 2 channels each of both your TS & XLR cable runs. Dont forget to inquire with your sales rep about purchasing/including within your configuration a good Regulated Power source commensurate with the equipment/pedals you are using in your overall configuration. They are a definite safety net and, will add years to your equipment by providing good, constant, clean power to your systems configuration. All of these mentioned units are of great value to your configuration considering they all do just what they are suppose to do. Yes, they are going to cost you a little extra cash however; sometimes these extra expenses are necessary in order to fix the problems. Pricey? Not really considering what you'll receive in the end - "Better Quality Sound" and isn't that what its all about??? As we all know: "if ya' wanna' dance, ya' gotta' pay the band." Good Luck!

I tried plugging in the Hum X Hum Exterminator
every way I could think of but it made no difference at all. I have a pretty standard pedalboard (wah, distortion, delay/chorus, tuner) and it didn't take out the hum that I get from flourescent and neon lights. Even pulled everything off my board and started from scratch with this thing plugged in to each pedal...didn't help. (also tried different guitars)...I know the problem is on my end...just wanted folks to know that this thing won't perfom miracles for you...(oh and yes tried plugging everything into a power strip with the Hum X Hum Exterminator...no good)

Comments about Ebtech Hum X Hum Exterminator:

I bought one and it was useless. I sent it back and the next one the same thing. We tried live, in 2 different home studios and all the same result. Save your money. This is nonsense.

Plugged my old Marshall JCM900 into the unit and immediately "no more hum." Great when using a splitter or when stage grounding is a problem.

It does reduce buzzing in older venues where it was a problem. And it is safer than using a ground lift. If it lasts for years, it might be worth the money.

This thing took the hum right out of our system. We put one in front of the amp rack and then one in front of the effects rack, and goodbye hum. Almost all of the group loop hum was eliminated.

Comments about Ebtech Hum X Hum Exterminator:

I don't always eliminate hum... but when I do, I use HUM-X. LOL Seriously, this jewel has saved me several times dealing with the typically horrible power provided in small live music venues. It won't solve everything but it seems to fix typical grounding issues with amps, mixers, and effect chains. I keep one on my stage gear and an extra one with me on gigs. You never know when you will suddenly need another or someone else will need one.

used for less then a year and shorted out on me. would have been nice to put a fuse in it to protect and prolong life. did help reduce buzz/fuzz/hum/white noise. still had some hum but not as bad as after it broke. now i can hear my pc do anything through my PA. drives, cpu, mouse. i cant even master my sound for the band.

The sales staff at Musician's Friend is knowledgeable and helpful. They recommended that I try the HUM X to solve a buzz in my amplifier that is caused by overhead lighting. Unfortunately it didn't work and Musician's Friend was easy to work with when I returned it.

              apparently not for generators

              By JettPowers

              from Oxford, MS

              About Me Experienced

Comments about Ebtech Hum X Hum Exterminator:

I got the hum X hoping to reduce or eliminate hum associated with having my amp (a Lunchbox zt 200 watt solid state) plugged into a a Goal Zero Yeti 150 combination battery/generator to play live where there is no power source. I'm an experienced player, but I have very limited knowledge of electronics. This product did nothing to reduce hum. I removed all effects, plugged the amp directly into the hum X and the hum X directly into the yeti 150 and then compared that with plugging the amp directly into the yeti 150. No noticeable difference. It's not the amp. I don't get the hum when the amp is plugged into a wall socket in my house, which is properly grounded. Apparently, the hum X was not designed to deal issues associated with battery powered generators.

              Hmmmmm

              By john john

              About Me Professional Musician

Comments about Ebtech Hum X Hum Exterminator:

This product hasn't actually resolved any of the hum issues that I've come across... that doesn't necessarily mean it's not doing what it's supposed to, it just means the hum issues I've dealt with tend to run deeper than the ground.

I suspect this little guy would be beneficial for the live sound engineer or gigging musician to have in his/her toolbox. That said, it's fairly pricey for what it is, and hasn't proved itself useful in any studio setting for the passed year that I've owned it. My advice would be to be sure that your hum issue is solely ground related before purchasing this unit... otherwise it will likely serve as an expensive paperweight 99% of the time.
