The original made-in-Minnesota is better, but cost more to begin with. Currently maybe get a 1500-watt Carvin and impress your boyfriend. The USA-made version is cleaner and quieter to my senses. Contemporary examples are fine, and less expensive.

This is the last amp I'll buy. Yes, I'd like more gear, or more amps to have for the practice room or backup or whatever. But when the weekend comes, and it's time to head to the gig, this is the only amp I'll reach for. Someone will have to prove to me, with a side-by-side comparison, why I should buy a better amp than this. Because I haven't found a reason to. I'm done shopping for amps.
I discovered this amp accidentally, when trying out a bass. The sales guy plugged me into this amp, and I was shocked by the tone. The scariest part, was the amp's EQ section was all set at 12:00 on all the knobs. It needed no adjustments! The Enhance Knob is a powerful but dangerous feature. Dialed correctly, it gives plenty of rumble and brightness, but cranked it could easily blow up lesser quality speakers with too low frequencies. The tuner out dedicates a jack for whatever tuner you use. The 2-ohm rating lets you get as much power as you can out of any cabinet arrangement. Right now, I've found happiness with a D212XLT for the rumble and growl, and a D210XLT on top for the mids and highs for clarity and definition. The ONLY thing I'd want to add, is a foot controller with a mute, and the Enhance On/Off. I wouldn't want to change the function or tone of the amp in any way. The most important thing to remember with this amp, is it will sound different depending on your bass. If you make adjustments to your tone, you'll definitely notice it. It's a very defined and responsive amp.
The first test for this amp was an outdoor show in a 95 degree August day. We were scheduled to play at 1:30pm. Our gear sat directly in the sun for 1-1/2 hours. My amp was in a black SKB case, sealed up tight, sucking up the heat. When I opened up the rack, it was too hot to touch anything inside. I was sure it would shut down from overheating. I set it up running both cabs, 2-ohm load pushing maximum wattage, cranked full. Played the setlist without a single hiccup. If that doesn't prove the amp's toughness and build quality, what will?!?! The only times I've ever had problems on a stage with my rig, had to do with dirty cables crackling out, or dead batteries in my wireless transmitter. I've yet to have an actual, legit issue with this amp after 5 years. I haven't even changed the preamp tube yet!
I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement for this amp. I've looked at Genz Benz, Markbass, Ampeg, TC Electronics, Hafner, Aguilar, SWR, even other Eden amps with different features and designs. The reason this amp is so good, is because it's dead simple to control. The front faceplate's controls don't confuse you. There aren't any fancypants switches to change anything. No bi-amping or bridging to worry about. Plug in, start rocking, enjoy a beer. Some fellow bassists have whined that it's so expensive. I asked them, how much have they spent on repairs? That question alone stopped their whining! I've also discovered, it can make other brands of speaker cabinets sound better. Regardless of what brands or styles of cabinets I've tried it on, it always sounds like my sound through them.

overall its a really great amp well built with plenty of features.This amp pushed my 700 watt 2 ten speaker cab with ease,where I tried many other well named brands that stated their wattage to be 900 watts or better and couldnt even come close to the wt550.
great features eq,Di, effects return auxiliary would be even better if they had two speaker on connections,but they do have 2 extra quarter inch outs
built like a tank. a little heavy at 20 lbs wise to rack mount it.It comes with rack ears too.

The wt550 pushes my 2 ten 4 ohm 700 watt cabinet with ease with everything set at mid point.Cantbeat the overall quality of this great amp,looks good too.Eden is serious!

I have owned many bass amps over the years, and this one is the best to me. It replaced a (Fender) Sunn 300T which is a great amp. My WT550 setup includes a D210XLT cabinet and a D112XLT cabinet. The Recording Output is simply outstanding, and eliminates all manner of grief in the studio and on large stages. The WT550 may not have the visual vibe of a big, heavy, fire-breathing tube amp, but it gets the job done at least as well with a whole lot less hassle and expense. Given the option, I cannot imagine using anything else.
The EQ section can do about anything, and the PA is very powerful; all the sends and inserts are there.
The pots are silent and everything works nominally.The fan on my WT550 does come on when the amp is being used hard, but I don't notice any noise. On my particular WT550 the fan doesn't come on at all with any eight-ohm load. The only reason I know the fan runs is I saw it running when I went next to the amp to retrieve a drink. If I had a noisy fan I would replace it with one that was silent. Not rocket science. About five years ago the amp fell and one of the quarter-inch output jacks on the rear panel was destroyed. I sent the amp to Eden (after calling) and had it back good as new within two weeks. I have used this amp on literally hundreds of gigs, including overseas.
At first I thought the WT550 was a bit pricey. After using it a lot for six years I really appreciate that (other than the busted jack, which was my fault) the amp has been maintenance free. About a year ago I removed the top cover to vacuum and give a visual inspection. Everything was fine. Also, I do not miss the need to keep a spare set of 6550's and associated hardware on hand.

This is it DE has made the ultimate bass amp, very little eq adjustments even needed, set everything to 12?O clock and your ready. I have owned Fender, Trace Elliot, Ampeg and others over the years eden has out done them all, I still love my ampeg all tube head. I highly recommend eden WT550. I bought two eden cabinets D210xlt and D410xlt they are by far superior in sound quality over my ampeg cabinets more punch low end the world moves! Three years later and it still sound as good form the day I bought it including the cabinets!

and i love it! i was introduced to it from a friend who toured alot with his Eden pre and power amp setup. i was blown away at the growling grind he could produce with such ease. i bought the WT550 and the D4x10XLT and the only thing that can be said is AMAZING TONE! in all truth i never heard of this brand before, now there is NO WAY you will EVER catch my playing through anything else!plus the fact that it's HAND ASSEMBLED doesn't hurt either, mine had a hand written wire diagram on the country voltage. as silly as it may sound it made me really happy.

Been playing in the music game for over 40 years and I've yet to come across a bass amp that sounds this good. I'll bet Marcus Miller wishes he had equipment that sounds this good. You can spend a heck of a lot more money on some awful sounding high end brands and never get that perfect tone. This one will do it. Over the years, I've owned Fenders, Ampegs, Acoustics, Sunn, SWR, and some other not so well known brands of amps. So, I think I know what I'm talking about when it comes to recomnmending a quality rig. It doesn't matter what bass guitar I plug in, I can make them all sound great with this amp, right down to a lowly Feneder Squier Affinity P bass. Recently, I've been on a record session using the DI out section on the amp going straight into Pro Tools and its fabulous and easy to work with in this mode. The sound engineer commented on how clean the sound was and how it made the recording a great success. When it comes to bass amps, David Eden should be your only choice. Save your money and buy American made, you won't be dissapointed.

I bought a wt550 November of 2008 and also pickup eden 2x10 cabinet, after few band rehearsals I ended up sold my huge Trace Elliot rig, and have never been happier or more satisfied with the over all tone and clarity, my sound & tone has never been better and more cleaner. I tried a wt550 at local SA store but it was a return item that was not working, so I tried the wt400 they had and loved the straight flat eq tone I was getting, so I took a chance and bought the wt550, I chose the wt550 due to it high output power. I have owned Ampeg-Trace Elliot-Fender-Carvin and others over the years, and the wt550 puts them all to rest, I like some of the Ampeg & Trace amps, but they are lacking where the WT550 prevails. The only other amp I own and did not sell is my Ampeg V4BH all tube bass head, not that it compares to the wt550 but only because it is no longer made hard to find and it has it?s own sweet tone! I pay mostly Fender basses, but every bass I own sounds fantastic through the eden... I highly recommend the WT550 well worth the money!!!

First off.. The only time I noticed the fan was.. Never?. Yeah. Never. I set the gain and everything just right (it outlines it in the manual), and I've never had any problems with the head. It's a must have.
