The Egnater Tweaker-40 112 40 watt tube guitar combo amp is an expansion of the award winning Tweaker-Series and is packed with the features tone tweakers have been asking for. The Tweaker-40 112 combo offers the classic tonal characteristics of the original Tweaker with more than double the power, 6L6 tubes, and two independent channels, each with an expanded set of Tweaker switches. This open-back combo is loaded with a 12" custom-voiced Celestion Elite GH-50 speaker.

The Tweaker-40 112's 11 onboard Tweaker switches provide a wide range of vintage tones, from ultra-pristine cleans to oversaturated leads. Use the USA/AC/BRIT switch to dial in your choice of American, British, or VX EQ. The Hot/Clean selector takes you on a journey from low to high gain, while the Vintage/Modern switch transforms the amp's feel from classic rock to modern edge. Comments about Egnater Tweaker-40 112 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

      The good...

Basically, this is a great, all around amp.
I have had mine for almost 3 years now and sometimes, I still can't believe what a great amp this is. It is very versatile, easy to dial in great tones and everyone that hears it, loves it. I am constantly getting asked "What's that Egg amp you are playing?"

Initially, my only complaint was the fact that there was no reverb, which for me was not a big deal anyway.

I could go on and on about how good the amp sounds, the tweakability of the tone using the "Tweaker" switches, the effects loop, etc., but that is not why I am writing this review, there are plenty of other reviews about the tonal capabilities of this amp.

Now for the bad... Sort of...

A couple of months ago, I sat down to play, flipped the amp on and was met with nothing. I checked the fuse at the AC inlet and sure enough, I had a blown fuse.

Fearing a bigger problem, I replaced the fuse. I plugged the amp in and flipped the switch. I was met with lights, then a pop, then nothing.

I did a little bit of research online and immediately found loads of posts about how the transformers on many Egnater amps were failing. It seems this is a very common problem.

I played the amp regularly, but I hardly ever cranked up past half way, so I would consider it light to normal use. I have an old 59' Fender Bandmaster that has been used and abused and it still has the original transformer, so obviously something is going on with the transformers at Egnater.

Lucky for me, the amp was still under warranty for another 2 months, so I called Egnater, spoke with Blad and told him about my problem. He asked me to send the serial number and proof of purchase, then he sent me a list of service centers in my area and told me to pick one.

      Excellent.

I dropped the amp off at my chosen repair center and was told it would be 4 weeks if the parts were in, possibly another 4 weeks if they were out of stock. That was 2 months ago and I just got the call that the parts are in. I should have my amp back this week and I can't wait.

As I said before, this is a very common problem, so on top of replacing the transformer, they are also installing a fan to keep things cool. It seems that heat is causing the transformers to fail. My tech says that he has replaced 3 or 4 with the fan and none have returned so far.

All in all, even with the transformer debacle, I would still recommend this amp just because it covers so much ground, sonically. Great customer service is just icing on the cake.

Comments about Egnater Tweaker-40 112 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Truly a tone chasers amp! I found what I wanted in terms of having the option of having the British/USA tone combination. The Brit/AC/US switch really changes the tone of the amp. But it would be great if both channels had that feature. All the Tweaker switches provide a noticeable difference in sound when used. But I sold if for a Fender Hot Rod Deville 3. I wanted a 2x12 speaker amp.....but I am getting rid of the Fender as well. I love the cleans but now am getting the Egnater Renegade 2x12 Combo!!

Why? It actually is the amp I wanted in the first place but had to just start with the Tweaker and go from there. The Renegade 2x12 is my preference as I cannot vibe with one speaker amps.

But the Tweaker is a great amp if you are like me and very picky about achieving various guitar tones.....this amp will not disappoint you.

Comments about Egnater Tweaker-40 112 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Tone for days and it LOVES pedals! Amazingly cool and great sounding little combo. The fact that there are two identical channels that are both highly customized is unique in that when you switch between the two it is utterly seamless. The only thing that would make it better would be the ability to have two seperate and tweakable EQ stacks so you could go from Fender Clean to Dirty Marshall. The EQ section is shared and you can choose between a Fender, Marshall or Vox tone profile. I've been in love with the AC30 voicing. So versatile and just amazing tone live. Haven't recorded with it yet but I'm sure it will blow me away. It is a true workhorse combo that gives you many great tones and does it with real tubes and no modeling. Sorry Pod, you're going back in the closet.

Comments about Egnater Tweaker-40 112 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I don't think you could find a better 40-watt combo at this price. The superior quality is apparent as soon as you take it out of the box.

This amp has such a broad tonal palette that it can be used for almost any style of music at a wide range of venues. I have had mine for over a month now, and I have used it constantly. Every day I'm discovering new combinations for amazing tones I never knew I could get out of my rig. Great for blues! Great for rock!

The two identical foot-switchable channels, each with 4-independent toggles and gain/volume control, allow me to work through a wide variety of sounds from warm rich cleans, to dirty/high-power drives in the upper gain levels. It's like having two amps in one.

Fender makes a great clean sounding amp, and Marshall amps in this size DO sound great, (but you have to crank them way up to get the right break-up and grit that brings them to life ). But they can't match the clean tones and wide range of options you get with this one. With the Tweaker-40 112, you get the best of both worlds.

Don't hesitate to buy this awesome amp. You won't regret it!

Comments about Egnater Tweaker-40 112 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've been playing for 20 years. I've been in a number of bands and used to be a die-hard Vox devotee. Recently, after starting a new project in my home studio, I wanted a combo amp that could go the anywhere I wanted it to go but with a clean signal (i.e., no effects). That's right: the hunt for the perfect distortion. I wanted something that could do the cranked AC30 but without the size, the crunchy Mesa Stiletto but without the 2k price tag, and Fender clean. I explained this to several musicians and techs and Egnater kept coming up. I tried several amps at GC (including the Fender Blues Deville, AC30, and Mesa 50:50, all with am SG classic with p90s). The Egnater topped them all. I'm in love with this little guy. It's club and tour ready. If I were to go into a larger setting, I'd pick up the 1x12 ext. but otherwise I love it. Bar-to-med club shows are a synch. This is a studio dream. Buy it yesterday.

            Sounds Great at the Gig!

            By Peter Becker

            from Woodbridge, Virginia

Comments about Egnater Tweaker-40 112 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I brought this amp after considering many options. Been playing for over 30 years, actively gigging in a classic rock/pop cover band for the past 4 years. My quest for a great on-stage distortion tone has haunted me all that time. Been through tons of gear, Marshall, Peavey, Mesa, Line 6, Vox, was never able to achieve my dream tone on stage, at acceptable volume. Decided to give Egnater a shot. At first I brought the Renegade 2x12 which sounded great in the store, but I found it too middy when I got it home. I had the same problem with a Mesa ElectraDyne I had a few years back, ended up selling that. Returned the Renegade and picked up the Tweaker 40 1x12 combo on recommendation from a friend. This is really a great sounding amp! I normally don't submit reviews during the honeymoon period, but decided to make an exception in this case. I will submit a follow-up in a few months if necessary.
The tweaker switches help to dial in your tone and offer a lot of control over the crucial midrange, as well as bass and treble. I gigged with it for the first time last week using a Les Paul and a Strat. Very smooth, tight sounding distortion, with lots of character and body, no mud. Nice clean tone. Great sounding, quiet effects loop, probably the best I have heard in a combo amp. I love the fact that the loop is footswitchable. For me, the key point in favor of this amp is that the distortion sounds very good (and cuts through the mix very well) at reasonable stage volume. On board reverb would be great to have though.
The sound guy is forever telling me to turn down, but not with this amp! It sounds great at relatively low volume. Coming back at me through the stage monitors, it sounded really good, and I usuall hate the monitor sound! Very professional tone, blends perfectly with the band. The amp pumps out a really quality tone, fat, with lots of character and detail, and a refined high end, never harsh. The core tone is so good that effects are not really necessary, another very good sign.
This amps sounds better than several previous models I have owned costing 2 or 3 times the price. You can't beat the value Egnater gives you here.
