First off, there is alot of controls you have to deal with. But once you dial in the right settings you will never look back. The best thing about this compressor is much it "does not" affect your tone. I have owned several compressors, trying to find the right one( Dyna Comp, Rocktron, Boss, ect.) and none even come close. The White Finger does exactly what it is intended to do without altering your tone. Most compressors end up making your tone sound thin and weak. With the White Finger you get unbelievable sustain at any setting and with 2 optocouplers(lamp and LED) you get 2 different compressions. Electro Harmonix does it again. It's a little spendy, but well worth the money. Get yours now!!
Unless you have the settings all way up it seems very subtle in effect. And the thing is huge compared to a smaller mxr comp. needs wall wart. useful for recording in home studio for any instrument.
Wow this compressor gets no love, especially when people see that the Black Finger has tubes sticking out of it. People equate tubes with greatness. I am not dissing the Black Finger its a good compressor but I settled on the White Finger after trying out the Keeley, Black Finger, Dyna Comp, and CS-3 all of which had different sounds. It is able to compress a ton or be very subtle. It has a clear sound to it and is able to boost sustain an incredible amout. This just had the greatest FUNK sound to it which is what I love and was after, so if you enjoy funk you should definately try this out.
I bought one of these recently and I like it very much. The white finger really fattens up the tone but is totally transparent-unless you want to turn up the pre gain to make it clip, then it will add some grit. It seems very versatile and would do most any style fine though I believe, even a little funk is in the w-f. You can do so much to your attack's sound characteristic and sustain. You can easily dial up a smooth and glossy rounded tone or a razors edge sting with only a few knobs. It takes a night of fiddling with it to learn what each knob is capable of doing. Well worth the time and cost for the vibe and life it added to my tone. I would reccomend this to anyone who wants to make their guitar sound a little bigger or fatter and sing just a little more and longer. Very happy with the build quality- much better than on my eh big muff pi.Run this into a good fuzz and then into a cranked tube amp and get ready for some hendrixian type screaming leads. Along with the other eh pedals I own it is very, very impresive in tone.
