The made-in-NYC original.
The Electro-Harmonix USA Bassballs Effects Pedal is a twin dynamic envelope follower for electric bass and guitar. Bassballs uses 2 critically tuned, sweeping dynamic filters that respond sensitively to attack variations creating shifting peaks and notches to produce vowel-like overtones. The switchable distortion mode's warm harmonic distortion intensifies the overtones and deep resonance of the effect. The Envelope Follower's sensitivity control determines how sensitive the filters are to playing dynamics and lets the musician tailor Bassballs' sound to the output level of a particular instrument. This Electro-Harmonix effects pedal is housed in the original-style steel chassis and packaged in a distinctive pine box.

I've had this pedal for a while now and have never had any problems. Though it does sound kind of iffy on some amps it's a great pedal. I'm not a big fan of the distortion on it but the clean tone is great. If you have 80 bucks to spare, get this pedal.
Ok first off, this pedal is unbelievable. The envelope filter combined with distortion sounds great. The change in sound between bass and guitar is really awesome. I also have a dunlop crybaby wah and the dunlop crybaby bass wah and they both sound great through this thing. I would reccomend this version over the non-USA version because its manufactured better.
Wow...what a cool pedal! First off, Electro-Harmonix is AWESOME! I own 5 EHX pedals for Bass and Guitar, and am OVERLY impressed with their performance, plus they are made in NYC, USA! BassBalls has a funky feel unlike any envelope filter I've used. Very vowel like tones, almost like human speech, and add the distortion, and you'll be sent into writhing, sonic extacy! Great price, great pedal, great for Guitar as well! Can't go wrong with EHX!
Great value. This is the "greasiest" filter-wah I have heard. Has a shimmering and aquatic sound. Better when mixed with overdrive or fuzz.
Do not confuse this pedal with other filters such as the Mu-Tron III, Meatball, Q-Tron, 00Funk, etc. It does not work in the same manner or sound nearly the same. This pedal sounds more like an analog synth, and through the sensitivity knob and your touch, can get a surprising amount of different sounds. Interacts with other analog circuits in cool ways. Excellent pedal if you're looking for different analog sounds on guitar or bass.
I used this pedal with my j bass and it sounded great. You can turn the effect all the way down and turn on the distortion, and just use it as an extra little boost. Then crank up the effect and turn off the distortion: No better way to get a funky tone.
This pedal is awesome. It's like a fuzz box mixed with an envelope filter. And the cool thing is you can switch the fuzz on and off. It looks like it would be tricky to adjust the knob and the fuzz switch with your foot, but it is suprisingly easy. Play with this pedal!!
When this pedal came and I plugged it intoi my amp for the 2st time it was amazing. The distortion adds an amazign bottome end destorted drone, along with my other effects (boss ceb-3 bass chours, and dunlop 105q bass wah) it helps shape my tone into something that sounds good to me and everyone around me.I would highly suggest buying this product
great pedal. sound decent alone, but sounds the best when paired with the ehx micro bass synth. Great value and you couldn't destroy this thing is you tried.
I just recently bought this pedal with christmas money, and I must say im not disappointed at all.The axe I wield is a fender deluxe jazz bass. The distortion is neither to little or too much, and actually adds a little boost to my signal. On clean with the trebles shining through, there is a very tasteful sound reminiscient of early primus. Looking back on it, I dont think i wasted my money.
This pedal is awesome. I don't have much use for it in my band, but I do like playin' around with it in my spare time. One bad thing (the only bad thing) is that it eats batteries really really fast. Otherwise, it's a great pedal with the best features you can get in an envelope filter.
This is an awesome pedal and sounds absolutely amazing whether used with or without a pick. A definite must buy for a the serious bassist/hobbyist.
I love this thing. I went into a recording studio with my band and guess what the owner had. This thing. I used and it was beatiful. It worked so well for some of our songs and I love it to death. trust me, if you are an avid bass player, and don't mind spending the money, do yourself a favor and order this right now!
This is my favorite, I can talk with my bass with this! Great value, don't miss it! distortion is very successful. The only bad thing about this is that it works relative to your bass' sound level, when you change the volume, the effect changes also.. but i can use it in my advantage sometimes. I highly recommend this one.
Very greasy.Swampy and thick texture.Less than half the price of EBS and in my opinion better.Limited functions but does what it does very well.NO LOST LOW END.Combines very well with distortion/overdrive or ad an Octaver for an amazing "aquatic" sound. Also mixes very well with Bass synth(AKAI SB-1 or Electro Harmonix Bass Micro-synth)
Ok so I have used a few EH products in the past and not been too impressed but when I plugged this baby in I was blown away. With the Distortion off the unit has a great funky vibe with a creamy feel to it which is great for playing under a guitar solo orr when it's just bass and vocals. I found the effect to be etremely musically versitle and useful for a variety of styles. As with all EH products I find them to be kinda "cheap feeling" - the metal casing seems fairly thin and whimpy but this has held up for a while now and is proving me wrong on that regard. Egaging Distortion is where this thing shines - while the distortion is really just a fuzz it enhances the vowel funky effect 10 fold and really makes your bass stand out in the mix. Disengaged I found the pedal to quiet with no hum or signal loss and when engaged it didn't effect my overall volume dramatically (slight boost with Dist. on) overall this is a great buy - it suffers at bit from being a slightly over-priced pedal box from my perspective but if you like the creamy funk feel then it's certainly worth it. If lost or stolen I'd be first in line the next AM buying another. EH as a company still has some proving to do to me but this product is great!
