OVERVIEW

A studio quality compressor that'll work on guitar and bass rigs alike.

Compression is a tool used on pretty much every recording you will ever hear, yet this extremely useful and versatile tool is often overlooked by guitar players as part of their rig.

Other compressor pedals are often limited by oversimplified controls and heavily colored sounds. Empress has created a truly transparent compressor, complete with all the controls found in the studio. The result is a tool that allows for a wide range of sounds from subtly adding sustain to getting the "quack" that country players love.

With all the controls available in top end studio compressors, the Empress Compressor has opened new sonic doors for guitarists; ranging from truly transparent compression for dynamic control to over the top squashing. We've also included a wet/dry mix knob that allows parallel compression for increased transparency and dynamics. Plus the three compression ratios, 2:1, 4:1 and 10:1, offer lots of flexibility.

Comments about Empress Effects Compressor Analog Compression Guitar Effects Pedal:

I'm writing this review to spare you the agony that I went through. I've wanted a studio grade compressor for my guitar and bass for a long time. After reading the glowing reviews for this unit I thought it would be a good choice. First off, after taking it out of the box I noticed that the finish/paint was horrible quality. This made me suspicious but I thought that if it sounded great then who cares really. I hooked the unit up and realized that it is neither "studio grade" or "boutique" in ANY way. The price is over double of similar units and one would expect quality. It is proudly "made in Canada". I thought "wow, this ought to be good". NOT. It is a noisy piece of junk. Unusable. It is easily 5 times more noisy than any cheap MXR effect. When playing it through a clean channel the noise is not so obvious but still there. When playing through a dirty channel then you can tell just how cheap and awfully noisy this processing unit truly is. No adjustment of the settings will reduce the inherent noise in this thing. VERY disappointing. WAY over priced. TOTAL garbage. Waste of time. If you don't believe me then go ahead and buy one and you will see. I doubt mine is defective. If it is, then that's not saying much for their quality control and the unit's durability. When an effect costs this much I expect it to be really good and not a poorly finished noisy useless chunk of scrap. Now that I think of it, is there anything other than the band RUSH that comes from Canada that is high-quality? Can't think of one thing. Maybe Justin Beiber wrote the other reviews because he has stock in Empress. Who knows. I'm returning this unit and hoping that the Wampler compressor is much better. I should have bought that one in the first place. When I was reading the reviews for the Wampler one review was bad and the reviewer referred to the Empress as being the holy grail. I'd never heard of Empress before. Now I know why. Cool name. Bad quality.

Comments about Empress Effects Compressor Analog Compression Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Empress Compressor is a nice, quiet, nearly transparent compressor. I use it for managing dynamics on 5-string basses where the b-string becomes urnruly at times due to playing style.
The compressor has 2:1, 4:1, and 10:1 ratios. I leave this on 4:1 and use it as an always-on "effect". It doesn't do limiting in the purest sense of the word, but on the 10:1 ratio at a low threshold you'll get solid compression and squashed dynamics for sure. I don't play slap bass, so can't comment on that. I'm very happy with this choice for my finger-style and pick playing. For pick playing I'll do 10:1 and lower the threshold a bit over what I have it set to when using 4:1. It is very quiet unless you crank the Release knob too far clockwise. It can use a regular 9v supply, but can accept up to 18v. It's not a small pedal, about twice as wide as a regular effects pedal. It is built like a tank. The metering lights are great and make adjusting settings that much easier, but you must still use your ears; the light help confirm what you're hearing if you're not familiar with compression in the first place. It has a sidechain loop. I haven't used it yet, but plan to add EQ so that the really low stuff gets squashed before the higher stuff. I would buy the Empress Compressor again if I needed to replace this one.

Comments about Empress Effects Compressor Analog Compression Guitar Effects Pedal:

I'm not into an effect & this is my first effect pedal & compressor for my basses, I've always been relying onto the pure sound of my bass through my fingers, but when I bought it and tried it live & in a recording, the versatility & transparency just blew my mind! You can't be wrong with this compressor, it does what other compressors do actually. Value for money is excellent!

Comments about Empress Effects Compressor Analog Compression Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have a rumble 500watt head and a SWR 4x10 800watt cab. Without this pedal I was experience clipping and inconsistent output levels. Once I put this pedal on my board my bass sings. Super easy to use and a tight, sustaining tone that will make anyone sound better. It does create a bit of fuzz when turned on and you aren't playing. I just put the boss noise suppressor on my board and couldn't be happier. Buy this pedal it's well worth the money!

Comments about Empress Effects Compressor Analog Compression Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've tried just about every compression pedal out there. The Empress Compressor is by far the best sounding and easiest to use. Once you've seen the LED display and how it corresponds to your signal, you'll never use another comp pedal again. Pedal sounds great, and usable at any setting.
