OVERVIEW

A modded E650 with EL34 power amp tubes.

The Engl Artist Edition was developed as a modified version of an E650 Blackmore Signature head, originally used from 2006 as a studio amp by Gary Moore. This first unit was eventually returned to Engl upon Gary' passing. Although based on the E650, Engl amp designer Horst Langer incorporated some modifications such as replacing the 5881 power amp tubes and voicing with EL34'. Within a short time, word got out about this version and artists such as Doug Aldrich, Ken Hammer, Paul Stanley and Scott Gorham put in their requests. Paul Stanley and Ken Hammer are still actively using their amps live on stage.

Comments about Engl E651 Artist Edition 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

While it appears to have two channels with a shared EQ, I found it easier to get four different sounds due to the amps design. The knobs about noon are just right. Three of those sound were really good. Best clean I've ever heard on an ENGL. Great distortion, enough gain for metal, no question, but the Fireball & Powerball do have the ability to get more brutal, however I value clarity and note definition in prog metal, so this is my favorite. Less compressed as well. Great classic rock setting for Zep tones as well. 3 solid tones, or channels, if you will. The only con is getting one to your house. They come from Germany. MF uses UPS who destroyed my first one. They send a second. Obviously dropped hard enough to crack a tube, but it comes with extras. If this one doesn't break it'll be a keeper. Again, not ENGLs fault. I blame UPS and MF for using them.

Comments about Engl E651 Artist Edition 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have had this amp (Which I bought here at Musician's Friend) for over a year now, and I couldn't be happier! I went through so many high end amps, some a lot more expensive than this one, but the Engl Artist Edition just simply satisfies. Great clean and lead channel channel. Each channel has a high/low gain button for versatility. If you want something simple that just gives you the clearest high definition tones, while sounding very raw and punchy, stop looking and buy!
