OVERVIEW

Big tube sound in a small box.

The Raider 100 E 344 is a guitar amp equipped with 100W of tube power and a single Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. This ENGL amp will amaze you with it's fat bass, huge amounts of midrange and well dressed treble. In conjunction with the 100W power amp section, driven by 4 x 5881 tubes, the ENGL Raider produces the sound of many more speakers. 2 channels, that can be played in Hi or Lo Gain mode and deliver 4 different gain stages to use, allow the Raider 100 to be the perfect workhorse for straight fat rock sounds.

Channel One shines with a clean sparkle. Engage the Hi Gain Mode and dive into big rhythm or bluesy lead tones. Channel Two impresses with big, bad Rock sounds even in Lo Gain mode. Using Hi Gain allows more sustain, rich harmonics, and adds nice smooth overdrive. The Raider 100 E 344 amplifier delivers tons of gain but still maintains clarity and its switchable Mid Boost gives you the chance to cut through in any situation.

Preamp:

2 channels, Hi/Lo Gain Mode, 3-band EQ , Bright & Clean Bright Switch, Mid Boost Switch, 4 x ECC 83 preamp tubes.

Master Section:

Master A / B, Presence, Depth Punch, adjustable Noisegate, 4 x 5881 Power Amp Tubes

Outputs:

FX Loop with Balance control, FX Loop switchable to complete hardware bypass, Speaker outs (2 x 8, 2 x 4, 1 x 16 Ohms), 2 x dual Footswitch Ports (S. A. C. with ENGL Z-9 Foot-switch or Z-4)

Comments about Engl Raider 100 E 344 100W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

After playing Mesa Boogies for years, I wanted to separate myself from the pack. I purchased this amp after reading the reviews, and it does not disappoint. Tremendous power, and handles everything from Hi-Gain Metal, to the Blues, and everything in between. The amp truly shines when you just plug into the front, and run effects thru the loop. I use a '60s solid body with Dual soap bars, incredible cleans and growl. I use an Ibanez 7620, with a Boss GT100 thru the loop for Metal, and select HiGain on the front of the amp (acutally use two of these amps, and set one on standard gain for a fuller sound.
I purchased the optional 6 button foot controller, and it is similar to a 4 channel amp, as you can toggle between the two volumes on each channel, as well as the low to high gain switching.
Not as "spongy" as the Mesa, but very clean cleans, nice crunchy mids, and very punishing drive (if that is what you are after)
Blues drives should not be overlooked. This is comparable to the Fender amps of old, if you do wish to twist the knobs and experiment.

Happy Playing!!

Comments about Engl Raider 100 E 344 100W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

It is an awesome amp. It has very clear good cleans, crunch, lead, metal. The only thing people might not like is that it is very responsive. If you are looking for a spungy amp, this isn't it. It will let hear everything you play (good or bad). I play mainly 70 and 80 classic rock and progressive rock and it does this with ease and tone.
Contrary to another reviewer, it does pedals great both in front and in the effects loop (it has serial and parallel). Maybe the other reviewer was using cheaper noisier pedals which would then amplify the noise. I have Bogner, Empress and TC pedals both in front and in loop and they sound fantastic.
The screemer and gigmaster are great amps also, I have friends that have them, but the disadvantage is that there is only one EQ. This is the main reason for buying this instead of the Screamer. Both are plenty loud. Both can be played pretty quite and still sound decent (as with any tube amp it will sound better louder). The raider also have more options with loops and noise gate etc.
This amp needs a good footswitch. I have the Z9 and it does everything I need. The amp is about the same in price as the Mesa Mark V combo with the footswitch included, but to me it sounds much better (but that is subjective). Both are great amps. The Rivera is great also, but you need to crank it to sound good (at least to me).
All in all a great amp, although it is heavy for a 1 X 12.

Comments about Engl Raider 100 E 344 100W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I haven't had mine for a month yet,but I knew in the first minute it wasn't the right amp for me.It's just a very powerful amp that you can not get a good sound out of it at lower volumes.I never quite understood about the 4 gain levels,I've sent emails and never get an answer on how to use it.The Gigmaster 30 or 15 would be a much better choice for club gigs.Unless your playing in front of 20000 people, you don't need this amp.

Comments about Engl Raider 100 E 344 100W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp on Musician's Friend probably 3 weeks ago and I've barely stopped playing it. This 100 watt beast has PLENTY up headroom and will never distort. Sounds absolutely beautiful and the gain is brutal. This is basically a Powerball in a combo amp. Louder than I'll ever need.
