Comments about Engl Retro Tube 100 Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Easily the best amplifier I have ever used. I do primarily play metal/hard rock music, but I believe you wouldn't have any problems playing any type of rock either. The cleans are very smooth and have a very pleasant chime to them. Maybe not as much as a Fender or a Diezel Herbert, but very usuable and recordable. The EQ is rediculous. I'm almost 12 o'clock on everything and it's so easy to find a good tone and just focus on playing. The gain knob has more than enough gain on tap to give you a really full bodied hard rock/metal tone. The gain boost switch gives you the grind to play modern death/thrash stuff with ease. Extremely rich and organic in tone compared to the Powerball and Savage models. There isn't any compressed tone compared to the other Engl models. It does take to opening it up more to really liven the tone, but it sounds SO good. It tracks very quickly, not quite as fast as the Savage maybe, but very close in comparison. Leads are very harmonically rich and sweet. Whatever your components in tone are before you plug in to the Retro Tube make sure they're quality because you'll be able to hear those nuances like never before. My absolute favorite thing about the amp, is the voicing. It'll make all those complex chords shine on every string. There isn't any one string stronger than the other one and they all complement the other. It's my Holy Grail of tone and I just love it. It does come shipped with a couple of extra ECC83 tubes and the Black, Red, and Yellow faceplate options. Just a simple great piece of gear. Just buy one and you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Engl Retro Tube 100 Tube Guitar Amp Head:

        Hello,
I don't usually post reviews when I buy equipment online. I was so pleased with this amp I felt compelled to post. My Marshall JVM went on the fritz and I needed an amp. I gig regularly and need a versatile product. This amp really does cover the tonal spectrum. I am blown away by the sound and the quality of this amp. I really appreciate the engineering that went in to this amplifier. The quality is superb. It's build like a tank! You really can't go wrong. Well done Engl well done.

Comments about Engl Retro Tube 100 Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Best sounding amp I have ever heard, and I have owned Marshall's and Diezel's. Everything from the best sounds of the 60's 70's and 80's, including 80's metal. I play an ESP Custom Shop all maple guitar, and this thing just sings and screams with luscious warm tone. Not Dark, but real tube warmth. My big complaint is the ridiculous gimmick of having three different color panels to change in the front. They look and feel cheap. They only gave me one with the pegs that screw in to the panel to put on the amp. I had to screw it off one panel to screw it on to another! They can't screw on the pegs for all panels?! A cheap piece of plastic?! (Speaking of the pegs). Plus the black panels black cover wasn't sticking all the way around. And when I put that one on, it would not stick to the amp tight, but was loose in one corner. This was senseless!
